DIY Laundry Basket Ideas. We buy or make it ourselves - a wicker laundry basket

Baskets for dirty laundry are akin to an eminence grise: they fulfill a seemingly simple but important mission - to make sure that laundry is hidden from prying eyes in plain sight. Therefore the basket is not just a container, but also a decoration for the bathroom. There are a great many of them, and in this article I will try to sort everything out so that you can easier to navigate when choosing and buy it with peace of mind. Well, for those who like to do everything with their own hands, so that it is original and not like everyone else, there is a separate section šŸ˜‰)

First, let's look at the general features. It doesnā€™t matter whether you buy or make it yourself - there are characteristics that every self-respecting laundry container should have. Otherwise, she will become not an assistant, but a headache. To avoid this, follow these simple recommendations:

We choose wisely and carefully.

Now letā€™s move on to the ā€œpractical partā€ and find out what exist...

Types of baskets for dirty laundry. The materials from which they are made.

Various plastics.

Plastic is everywhere now. As a rule, there is nothing special about it: simple design, plain colors, uncomplicated shape.

True, manufacturers are trying to add zest to plastic products, imitating weaving or carving, which makes them (the baskets) a little prettier.

A corner models will fit even in the smallest bathroom, saving space.

Sometimes you can even come across something quite stylish)

From we note cheapness and availability (simple models), as well as ease of weight and washability, which is very practical. In addition, if you need a bright basket, then the choice of colors in plastic is very large.
The obvious one is a design that rarely fits into any kind of stylized bathroom interior due to its ā€œcheapā€ appearance.
Solution: hide the basket in the pantry, closet, cabinet, or look for more expensive and beautiful models.

Lightweight nylon baskets

In all respects it looks like plastic. Usually this compact meshes on a flexible frame. If desired, you can even wash it in the machine.

the same as for plastic.

Cozy wooden laundry baskets.

One of the cutest options. Will last faithfully long years(and perhaps even your children). Wooden baskets look great in the interior of almost any style and pleasing to the eye"natural" look.

Material environmentally friendly and durable, but also absorbs moisture well. And if in the case of plastic models you donā€™t have to worry about this, then wood must be processed. Most often, they are first impregnated with antifungal compounds, and then covered with varnish or paint, protecting wood from moisture. This creates protection from rotting, destruction, and loss of attractive appearance. Therefore, do not buy baskets made from ā€œcleanā€ wood that has not been varnished or painted, unless you intend to do it yourself later.

Especially good pouf baskets with seats. It is very comfortable.

cosiness, who appears in the bathroom with a new ā€œtenantā€, durability.
only one - baskets are not cheap, which is understandable. But it's worth it)

Cute braids.

The material is vine, rattan, bamboo, seaweed, rope and even straw. In terms of properties and the feeling of comfort they create, wicker baskets for dirty laundry are similar to wooden ones. But if wooden baskets are suitable for almost any interior, then wicker baskets are more for lovers of eco style, since, say, they will not fit into ā€œmodernā€ or ā€œhigh-techā€ (or with difficulty). Due to high humidity, such things also must be protected from moisture special impregnations, varnishes or paints.

There are like models classic usually oval...

...that's enough interesting by shape or weave.

What I like most are these wicker storage boxes. You can sit on them, if the lid is strong enough.

Handles on the basket are always useful.

This basket, woven from fabric tape, stands apart.

environmentally friendly, elegant look, the flexibility of the material makes it possible to produce many different shapes.
only one. If the material is not of high quality, it will soon begin to fray, crumble, delaminate or even break. When purchasing, pay special attention to the ā€œdrynessā€ and flexibility of the material.. This is determined by ā€œeyeā€, touch, pressing. If the basket begins to crumble already at the inspection stage... well, you understand)

Stylish metal models.

Metal is a great choice for style bathrooms minimalism, hi-tech, loft or fusion.
Solid sheet baskets are quite heavy, so choose mobile models on casters.
There are wire baskets. Larger thick rods are also clumsy and require either wheels or ā€œset it and forget itā€ approach.

Thin and light options nonetheless must be strong and not bendable.

Metal basins in the Provence style will take their rightful place in the appropriate interior.

Simple ā€œironā€ versions are sold, as well as in colors of gold, silver, bronze and other shades of the ā€œmetallicā€ palette.

Important Note: Metal, from which the box is made, must be stainless if you don't want to later.

are obvious: durability, reliability, can withstand large volumes of laundry if you have a large family.
again, this is not the cheapest or most accessible option. Some chrome plated one-piece baskets look like urns, which is not aesthetically suitable for everyone.

Soft laundry baskets.

Textile and knitted baskets at once make the bathroom ā€œhomeyā€ and you donā€™t want to leave there). Empty bags easily stored in the nightstand until the next load of dirty laundry. They even wear underwear take up little space.

By the way, they are often used as a liner for metal baskets so that they donā€™t look so strict. This is also not uncommon in wicker and wooden baskets.

Manufacturers often use cardboard inserts so that the bags keep their shape. If the inserts are not removable, this will create inconvenience in the future when you want to wash the basket.
Soft baskets absorb moisture, so require periodic washing and thorough drying. Although I would not call this a minus, because it can be thrown into the washing machine along with the same laundry) If it has inserts, then the basket should be periodically placed on the balcony to be ventilated to avoid unpleasant odors. And better do not buy something that requires washing, but it is impossible to do this.
Soft material is great for folding baskets on a wooden or metal frame.

Don't forget about the rule of strength. Thin material will quickly become unusable - you will have to buy a new one. Choose basket bags made of thick fabric.
as many color options as there are fabrics in the world) Very cozy, suitable for absolutely any interior bathroom.
without frame unstable, for a large family one will not be enough, because... they are not very roomy.

Leather luxury.

The skin always looks decent. And here again I make a reservation - which in properties is not inferior to natural raw materials, and sometimes even superior. And wherein saves the lives of animals, which is important for every humane person.

Eco-leather ā€œbreathesā€, easy to clean, light weight. Typically used as a casing on a wooden or metal frame.
noble appearance, variety of colors, durability.
not cheap not sold everywhere, but online stores are our everything)

The first stage is over: certainty has appeared with the material. Now decide how best to position the basket. In this case, we have an overview of what they are...

Types of laundry basket installations

Floor-standing

The most common option. You buy, bring, install, use.

Pull-out baskets built into the closet.

When there is little space in the bathroom, but you already have cabinets or are planning to order furniture for the bathroom, make this convenient solution - baskets for the closet.

With such models, an important role is played possibility to remove the cover, if it is soft (washable) or Possibility to wash the basket without any problems, if it is built in tightly.

This, of course, is not entirely built-in... but weā€™ll also classify it as such.

Folding laundry baskets

Location under the sink- one of the most practical. This trick can be done even in the smallest bathroom.

Baskets located on shelves

Such luxury is available only to those who has enough space in the bathroom. This is the main disadvantage. Otherwise, if you choose cute baskets, it will look stylish.

Hanging basket models.

Letā€™s play here) After all, baskets can also be hung on the door handle...

ā€¦hang it on the door itself, further saving space...

...on the wall with one hook...

...or take coat rack with hooks for clothes and hang several at once.

And one roll-out model for a snack) This one easily hides under any shelf or tabletop.

How to conveniently sort dirty laundry?

If you have a large family or donā€™t want to dig through the basket every time, dividing laundry into white, dark, colored, childrenā€™s, etc., then itā€™s worth sort immediately, as soon as you brought him to the bathroom. Baskets for dirty laundry will help with this. with separator or just separate ones for each type.

For the next two options you will need laundry. But, as a rule, such large families live in private houses, so there should be no problems with space.

After such a detailed analysis, I suggest you relax ā˜• and just admire What creative things have designers come up with on this topic?.

The most unusual laundry baskets.

Well, I donā€™t like simple forms, I want some zest. So here's a whole handful for you)
Let's start with the wicker hungry whale. The flexibility of the vine and skillful hands give birth to beautiful models.

P.S. There are master classes online that teach you how to make laundry baskets from cardboard boxes and newspaper tubes. remember, that cardboard boxes are not a very reliable material and it can only be used as a temporary solution. But not everyone can weave from tubes so that it doesnā€™t look vulgar.

We've looked at some basic options for DIY laundry baskets. And then, starting from what you see, take up hooks, needles and hammers to create your own masterpiece.)

Children's laundry baskets

I decided to put these baskets on a separate list, because they fit everywhere) They are bright, non-trivial, you can sew them yourself, and in general all the cutest and sweetest things for children šŸ˜.

It was quite a large overview of all possible parameters of baskets for storing dirty laundry and even a little (Convenient storage in the bathroom: we use the walls to the fullest! How to store cosmetics - methods for every taste and budget. How to store toothbrushes so as not to harm your health

WE MAKE A LAUNDRY BASKET WITH YOUR OWN HANDS.

The eternal question of our housewives is where to fold dirty laundry before washing it? If you, like me, are not satisfied with the option of storing things in basins under the bathroom, I suggest building such a practical thing. How to make a laundry basket with your own hands? It turns out it's very simple. One of the simplest master classes is in front of you!

A laundry basket for the bathroom will consist of only a few parts. Here they are: a garden metal mesh (70 cm high), a wooden circle for the bottom, four wheels and fastenings with screws for them. The only tools that are useful are pliers and a screwdriver. Strong fabric and cord are suitable for interior decoration of the basket.

First you need to lay out the materials in front of you. The mesh needs to be chosen such a length that it can be wrapped around a circle once. Well, for the base for the basket you can use the seat of a wooden stool or a large wooden pizza stand. When everything is ready, place a wooden circle on the floor and wrap a net around it. Excess mesh must be cut off using pliers or other tools.

The mesh is very easy to fasten: metal rods need to be twisted with pliers around the rods of the other side of the mesh. In this case, you should check that the fastening is reliable (that is, the mesh must be tightly fixed).

Under the bottom, the mesh needs to be wrapped, bending the ends of the mesh towards the center.

Now you need to secure the mesh to the bottom of the basket. The bent edges of the mesh form squares, which must be pressed to the wooden bottom with screws. We fasten the screw with the nut, fixing the mesh rod. The same thing needs to be done several more times around the perimeter of the bottom. It turns out 7-8 screws.

If you want the basket to be repositionable, make it maneuverable with small wheels. To do this, four wheels need to be evenly placed around the perimeter of the bottom and fastened with screws. Of course, it is better to choose wheels that rotate not only in two directions, but also around their own axis.

This is how the base of the basket turns out: a mesh with a bottom on wheels.

A DIY laundry basket is already quite functional. But in order to create not only a piece of furniture, but also its decoration, you need to make an inner cover for the basket. It is better to sew it from dense fabric like burlap or mattress fabric. Measure the height of the basket, then the radius of the bottom and cut out a suitable fabric cover. At the top of the cover you can make a cord fastener that would tighten the basket bag. Also, for beauty, you can turn the top edge of the bag so that it covers the ends of the frame rods.

A bathroom basket is a fairly simple and practical craft! Do this and your bathroom will live a new life!

Despite the latest technologies for manufacturing household items and the variety of them on supermarket shelves, hand-made products are considered the most valuable.

They fully meet the tastes of their owners or manufacturers, but most importantly, they are made independently, with soul and love.

For example, a DIY laundry basket is a convenient household item that allows you to store used or clean items in one place.

Many admirers of modern culture believe that handicrafts take a lot of time, and the result of their own labor is inferior in quality to purchased items.

Why sew curtains with your own hands if you can buy beautiful finished products for every taste in the store? They think that homemade interior items and accessories look out of place and out of date.

Woven rugs, knitted tablecloths, wire lampshades, embroidered napkins - all this is a thing of the past; now it is much more profitable to purchase a quality item ready-made.

Surprisingly, these fabulously elegant, openwork table lamps are created with your own hands using simple objects: cans, a roll of lace, scissors, thread and a needle

This is a rather controversial opinion, because hand-made products have long become not only necessary, but also fashionable. Famous designers produce collections of hand-made masterpieces, the cost of which is much higher than their factory counterparts.

ā€œGrandmaā€™sā€ chunky knit sweaters have become a stylish wardrobe item for urban fashionistas, and hand-made greeting albums have become a sign of luxury and special attention.

If you replace the plastic laundry box with a hand-made basket, the bathroom interior will only benefit ā€“ it will become more comfortable and homely warm.

Self-woven baskets for household utensils can not only decorate the interior, but also save useful floor space: a set of products is placed on the wall using a railing system

Let's look at how, using scrap materials and simple skills, you can create a beautiful and useful product for home use.

Hand-made laundry baskets: 3 master classes

To make a laundry basket with your own hands, you wonā€™t need expensive or rare materials; anything you have at hand will do.

Pieces of fabric, wooden sticks, scraps of rope, old oilcloth - all this can be found at home or purchased by spending a minimum of money.

Our task is to turn ordinary, seemingly useless things into a necessary and stylish accessory for daily use.

From newspaper tubes

Using newspaper weaving, you can create vases, baskets, boxes, boxes and other useful items for storing smaller items.

To make a basket you will need a stack of newspapers, scissors, PVA glue, a ruler, a long knitting needle, a mold and varnish. First, let's make the bottom.

We cut newspaper sheets into wide strips 7 cm wide, which we wind onto a thin knitting needle at an angle of 30Āŗ, and secure the corner at the end with glue

We make sure that the ends are of different thicknesses, and that the tube itself is dense and elastic. The number of tubes depends on the volume of the basket, but in any case there should be a lot of them. We make long ones from short blanks: insert one tube into another and secure with glue.

The weaving process occurs as follows: we take 10 parts (5 perpendicular to 5), place the first 5 in parallel, bend them through one using a ruler, drip glue onto the lower elements and fix one of the remaining tubes, and so on for all 5

When the weaving of 10 tubes is finished, we turn one of the corner tubes in a circle - we intertwine it with 5 elements.

One by one, in order, we bend all the tubes, each of which is intertwined with 5 of the same elements. The result should be a round or oval shaped bottom of the basket.

Having finished the bottom, we lift the axle tubes up (increase the length if necessary) and insert a base inside, around which we will continue weaving, for example, a plastic bucket.

Going around the base, we continue to weave in a circle to the very top. At the end, you need to shape the edge: bend the tubes inward and secure them between other elements

Having finished weaving, we apply a layer of PVA glue to the surface of the basket to increase the strength and stability of the product.

To make the finished product attractive, we cover it with a pleasant shade of stain or varnish.

If newspaper tubes are pre-painted, the result can be even more amazing: such a basket can be used for laundry, and as a fruit vase or flower pot.

Made of fabric on a wooden frame

A beautiful folding basket made of bright textiles is suitable for both used linen and clean clothes ready for ironing.

The main manufacturing material is wooden slats and a large piece of brightly colored fabric, cotton, but with synthetic thread for strength.

Experiment with the size of the finished product and keep in mind that its empty version will not require much space, since the basket can be folded in one motion and put away in a closet or on a shelf

The base of the hand-made model is assembled from wooden and plastic elements.

We will need four narrow slats of 0.6 m each, two plastic, metal or wooden tubes of 0.4 m each and two similar tubes of 0.36 m each

Fastening material: 8 bolts for fixing the tubes, 2 large bolts with nuts for connecting the rails.

The slats must be sanded and, if desired, coated with paint or varnish, and the tubes must be processed so that the ends are safe.

As a result of assembly, you will get a comfortable, stable structure that can easily be turned into a laundry basket and a camping table.

Having prepared the frame, we move on to the fabric part. When sewn, it will resemble a large bag.

First you need to sew the large parts, as shown in the picture. The product will be more interesting if the front and back parts are cut from different materials

Use a simple machine stitch to join large pieces of fabric together. If the fabric is two-layer, try to hide the seams inside.

Donā€™t forget to sew narrow strips of fabric into the seams of the lower part (bottom of the basket) - they will secure the structure from below. They can be replaced with ready-made ribbons, ribbons or straps

Instead of a machine seam, you can use a hand seam, but the first option is more reliable.

Whether the edge should be finished depends on the type of fabric. If the material does not unravel, you can leave it as in the picture - in a two-layer model, all the seams are hidden inside

If you have been familiar with the art of machine sewing since childhood, you will not have any problems creating a relatively simple design; others will have to turn to an instructional video or literature

Try to sew all the parts neatly and evenly so that the corner lines are straight and the opposite parts are the same size and parallel.

Lastly, we decorate the edges with a beautiful braid and sew on buttons.

Beautiful decorative details with buttons, reminiscent of pockets, are not only decoration, but also the main fixing element of the basket on the frame

By unfastening the buttons and bottom straps, the fabric ā€œbagā€ can be removed from the frame and washed.

This is what the basket looks like when folded. It can be easily placed in a pantry, closet, shelf or car trunk. The plus is that it can be folded with a small amount of laundry.

On a plastic frame

We offer two interesting solutions, the advantages of which are a minimum of material and time for implementation. And the result exceeds all expectations!

From a clothesline

Here is a beautiful and stylish basket for laundry, shoes or household items. It looks like it was purchased from a fashion boutique, but in reality everything is much simpler.

Let's look at how to make a convenient compact laundry basket with your own hands from a small plastic mold - a ready-made analogue of a factory-made one or even a trash basket.

We buy the base of the product at a household or stationery store; they also sell large plastic boxes or drawers if the round shape is not suitable

To make it easier to work, turn the form upside down.

We wind the rope from the bottom up to the very bottom. Using a special glue gun or brush, apply PVA glue to the rope and press it to the plastic (every centimeter or the entire length), and where it is not there, to the previous skein

As a result, the plastic mold is completely covered with rope on the outside, and only the upper part on the inside.

The color of the basket is a matter of taste for the designer. You can use a rope of one shade, two (as in this picture) or create a bright, multi-colored model (for example, for toys for a nursery)

One of the main advantages of self-made items is versatility.

By choosing colors to match the interior of a bathroom or other room, you will receive a wonderful designer accessory for storing household small items, which costs at least 1000 rubles in a boutique, but will cost you 200-250 rubles.

Another option in the video:

Made from textiles and decorative cord

The next model will require the same materials plus a piece of durable textile to finish the inner surface.

First, we make the pattern in a very simple way - we roll the basket over a sheet of paper (wallpaper) and trace the outline, prepare the part for the bottom in a similar way

We transfer the contours of the pattern onto the material and cut out the finished pieces with scissors: we get two textile parts - for finishing the walls and the bottom.

Donā€™t forget to leave some extra space on the fabric fragments for seams and so that a large piece can be wrapped around the neckline and glued

We put the finished ā€œbagā€ inside a plastic basket so that its ā€œbottomā€ is strictly in the center, and secure the edges by tucking them in from the outside and gluing them around the circumference.

Our basket is almost ready, all that remains is to decorate the outer surface. To do this, take a decorative cord or rope and follow the steps described in the previous instructions

The color of the cord depends on the interior and your mood.

The result is a very comfortable and stylish basket. To diversify the design of the product, you can attach rope handles, pockets, or use applique as decoration.

Linen baskets in interior design

Although a laundry basket made independently will best meet our aesthetic needs and serve as an interior decoration, we should not forget about its purpose.

Its functionality consists in storing, or less often, transporting small-sized items: household items, clothes, shoes, bed linen, and small items needed in the household.

Therefore, it is logical for your model to be in the wardrobe.

A wicker or fabric-decorated basket will fit well into the interior of a dressing room or fit comfortably on one of the shelves of a regular wardrobe

When creating a model for a specific room, do not forget about style.

For example, for a modern classic setting, a simple product without unnecessary decorations is suitable, for a romantic setting - with bows, flowers or ribbon patterns.

The bright color of the walls is the perfect backdrop for a self-made basket made of willow twigs or painted newspaper tubes, stylized as willow

We can experiment with the shape and size of handmade products, adjust them to the height of the shelves in the bathroom or the width of the racks in the closet.

A set of baskets of different sizes is a real treasure for the bathroom. You can store towels, cleaning and hygiene products, and washing supplies in them

Harmony is beautiful in everything, even in bathroom accessories. The same fabric, and in this case oilcloth, can be used to make curtains and baskets.

The photo shows an example of how additional accessories create the style of the entire room. If the motley print is replaced with a solid pastel shade, the dynamics will disappear and you will get a calmer, more classic atmosphere

Baskets are also good because they can be easily placed in places that are most often not used and ā€œstand idleā€ without use.

These are the corners of the bathroom, the space between the bathtub and the floor, a small area under the sink - as in the next photo.

It's amazing how many useful things one small basket can hold! Here is an excellent example of the successful use of a small ā€œpocketā€ under the sink for washing

As you can see, you can do simple household things yourself.

A little of your imagination, a little free time - and an exclusive hand-made masterpiece is ready, which you wonā€™t be ashamed to decorate your home or give to your friends!

To solve the issue of collecting and storing things before washing, it is not necessary to purchase expensive boxes or organizers. A do-it-yourself laundry basket can be a profitable solution, which anyone can create. It's quite simple, and the results will be truly impressive. The product will be unique, suitable in size and in your favorite color scheme, which will harmonize favorably with the rest of the interior items.

There are many reasons to make your own laundry basket. Firstly, you can choose the style of the product. Secondly, there are no size restrictions. Thanks to this, you can profitably use the free space. Thirdly, such a functional element will be much cheaper than those offered in a hardware or furniture store.

You can place the finished basket for dirty laundry in the dressing room, bedroom, bathroom, hallway or closet. In any case, now the untidy mountain of clothing will be camouflaged, and small items of clothing do not need to be searched throughout the house to wash.

There can be many options for manufacturing:

  • standard laundry container in the form of a round or square basket;
  • corner drawer, which allows you to make maximum use of space in the house thanks to its shape;
  • the wall version is suspended on special mounts, you can even create a multi-level system;
  • The collapsible basket is functional and can be hidden away in a closet or pantry when not needed.

Materials and tools

Before considering the sequence of actions on how to make a laundry basket, you need to decide on the materials. Expensive components are not required to complete the work. As practice shows, in every home there are several options for what you can make an excellent basket from: fabric scraps, wooden planks, plastic oilcloth and even old newspapers. Typically, additional decoration elements and consumables such as glue and paint are purchased. The beauty of DIY is being able to turn unwanted items into beautiful and functional items for your home.

Before starting work, the basket needs to be designed: determine the dimensions, clarify the shape in order not to adjust the container already during the execution process.

Depending on the execution technique, different materials may be needed:

  • for a basket of newspaper tubes you need newspapers, glue, clothespins, scissors, cardboard and a knitting needle;
  • for a product on a wooden frame you will need solid slats, plastic and metal tubes for guides, fabric, bolts and nuts for fastening, threads and buttons for working with fabric, scissors, a needle or a sewing machine;
  • if the basket is made on a plastic frame, then you need a base - a stationery basket, as well as rope, cord or yarn, a glue gun, fabric, scissors.

Stages of creation depending on the model

To study in more detail the process of creating a basket for storing laundry, you need to select detailed step-by-step instructions. Each stage of manufacturing is important, however, experienced craftsmen can change the algorithm of actions to create a unique object.

From newspaper tubes

Weaving baskets from newspapers is a simple and cheap way to create a unique item. If you have some experience and dexterity, well-decorated products can be difficult to distinguish from those presented in the store.

To create a wicker version of the basket, you will need:

  • old newspapers;
  • scissors;
  • PVA glue;
  • ruler;
  • long knitting needle;
  • frame form;
  • varnish or paint.

Sequence of actions to create a laundry basket:

  1. To make a vine, we cut newspapers into strips of 5-7 cm. We wind them on a knitting needle at an angle of 30 degrees. Secure the tip with glue. If longer tubes are needed, we connect them by gluing the joint.
  2. Weaving starts from the middle of the base. 5 tubes are arranged perpendicularly and intertwined with each other. The joints are fixed with glue.
  3. We begin to braid the corner tubes sequentially in a circle. The result is an oval-shaped base - this is the bottom of the structure.
  4. To weave vertical walls you will need a frame - a cardboard box that is inserted inside the future basket.
  5. Vertical tubes need to be glued to the base, bent and secured to the top of the frame. The distance between them should be approximately 5 cm.
  6. Next, you should weave transverse tubes, bending them around each vertical one; the joints can be glued together for reliability.
  7. Along the edges of the product, the tubes are bent into the structure, intertwined with neighboring ones and fixed with glue for reliability.
  8. To make the basket as strong as possible, at the end a layer of PVA glue is applied to the entire product.
  9. At the final stage, the structure is painted and decorated.

The convenience of newspaper vines is that the length of the tubes can be increased directly during the weaving process. Thus, weaving the product is much easier.

Made of fabric on a wooden frame

The advantage of this option is that the wooden frame can be made in various modifications. Folding models are especially convenient. To make a basket you will need: wooden slats, fittings for fastening, a piece of fabric of sufficient size, as well as a needle and thread for stitching.

The sequence of making a basket 40 x 40 cm:

  1. We select for work 4 slats of 60 cm, 2 tubes of 40 cm and 2 of 35 cm. The upper part of the structure will be slightly wider than the lower one.
  2. To fasten the partitions, you will need 8 bolts and 2 large bolts with nuts to connect the slats in an X-shaped pattern.
  3. After making the frame, we proceed to marking the fabric cover, the pattern resembles a bag.
  4. It is better to sew the seams on a sewing machine (itā€™s faster and more accurate). You should start with large parts and then move on to smaller ones.
  5. In order for the entire product to look beautiful, you need to trim the edges of the fabric.
  6. Decoration can be done with braid and original buttons, which additionally serve as fasteners to the wooden frame.

The advantage of such a DIY laundry basket is that the fabric cover can be easily removed and washed if necessary.

It is important that the wooden planks are well processed, otherwise there is a risk of driving a splinter under the skin.

From the vine

An advanced version of weaving is making products from wicker. This is a natural material that looks expensive and authentic. However, such a product requires some experience and a willingness to do more painstaking work. The main material is willow, grape or rattan, which are processed in a certain way to give flexibility (soaked in cold water). In addition to the basic material, you will need:

  • scissors or pruning shears;
  • awl;
  • wood knife;
  • wire cutters;
  • pliers;
  • device for cleaning vines - pinched.

The weaving process is in many ways similar to the process of creating a container from newspaper tubes. But it is worth noting that natural material is more difficult to handle. The frame of the structure must be held together by the quality of the weave; glue will no longer help correct inaccuracies.

A basket made from wicker is considered the most durable option. At the same time, it has more weight and is unable to change shape.

On a plastic frame

Do-it-yourself laundry baskets with a plastic frame look great when the decorative element is a cord or rope. To make such a product at home, you will need a plastic mold that can be purchased at the store, a string, hot glue in a gun, and thick fabric or paper to decorate the bottom of the structure.

Sequencing:

  1. For convenience, it is better to turn the frame over and start decorating it from the bottom up.
  2. The rope is tightly wound onto the plastic, secured with glue from a gun or PVA, which can be applied with a brush. The spacing of the attachment points is no more than 1 cm.
  3. After decorating the side walls, you need to take the cord to the bottom, where it is firmly fixed. To make the bottom of the basket look beautiful, you can make an overlay from thick fabric or cardboard.

In this technique you can combine fabric and cord. Then you will need to cut and secure the fabric with glue.

Decor options

The undeniable advantage of handmade products is that the decorating process is not limited in any way. There are a number of common materials for decorating baskets, made by hand using different techniques.

  1. A fabric container on a wooden frame is decorated with braid, bright buttons, and appliquƩs. The color and texture of the fabric itself can already be an original solution in the interior. To store small items, you can make several patch pockets.
  2. Decorative lacing and twine look good on the fabric.
  3. Wood frame elements can be painted or painted if the main focus is not on the fabric, but on the supporting structure.
  4. Products woven from wicker are often decorated with satin ribbons, which easily fit into the holes between the twigs.
  5. Paper tubes lend themselves well to dyeing.
  6. A plastic frame decorated with cord can be decorated with small elements that are attached with glue (shells, pebbles, sequins, rhinestones, beads).

Creating a laundry basket with your own hands requires a minimum amount of materials and tools. Such a product will become a highlight in the interior and will delight the eye of the master and his household. In addition, this useful device will help maintain order. All items that require washing will be in their place.

If you're having trouble finding a laundry basket that matches your bathroom's height and volume, try making one yourself. This basket can be used not only for laundry, but also for storing clothes, toys, textiles, and any large or small things. Make washing a little more enjoyable!

For a basket with a height of 55 cm and a diameter of 31 cm you will need:

  • metal mesh - 110 cm;
  • gray linen or burlap (length) - 102 cm + 34 cm for the lid;
  • light linen (length) - 102 cm + 34 cm for the lid;
  • cardboard 32 x 32 cm;
  • sewing machine;
  • thread and needle;
  • wire cutters;
  • wire;
  • pliers;
  • scissors;
  • tailor's needles;
  • a simple pencil;
  • construction gloves to protect hands.

Time spent: 1 hour 20 minutes

Step 1

Using wire cutters, prepare a piece of metal mesh of the required size. The mesh will be the base of our laundry basket. To protect your hands from sharp elements, it is better to wear thick construction gloves at this stage. The mesh is stored in a roll and will take on the correct round shape.

Step 2

We connect the edges of the mesh. To do this, you need to form an overlap of 2-3 cells and twist them with wire. At this stage, pliers may come in handy.

Step 3

Let's start sewing the cover for the outer part of the basket. I used a piece of coarse gray-brown linen measuring 62 x 102 cm. We fold it lengthwise with the right sides inward and machine stitch it. You can zigzag the edge of the seam and the top of the workpiece to prevent the fabric from fraying.

From fabric of the same color, cut out a circle with a diameter of 32 cm.

We fold the edge of the circle and the fabric blank with the right sides facing each other and grind it on a machine.

The result is a cover that can be easily placed on the mesh. The top edge needs to be folded inside the basket.

Step 4

We cut out a piece of 65 x 102 cm from light flax. We repeat all the same steps as with gray flax. Place the finished cover in the laundry basket, inside out. Since the light-colored cover is taller, there is enough fabric left to wrap it around the outside of the basket. You can use cotton lace, pompoms or braid as edge decoration.

Step 5

Now let's start making the lid. Its base can be made of cardboard, thin plastic or a dense laminate backing. Cut out a circle with a diameter of 32 cm. Prepare 2 circles of white fabric, the diameter of which is equal to the cardboard blank plus 2 cm for allowances.

Cut out a strip of light fabric 25 x 10 cm, from which we sew a handle for the lid. We fold it crosswise with the right side inward, machine stitch it, turn it inside out and iron it.

We bend the workpiece as shown in the photo and steam it with an iron.
