Cultivation of kesha grapes. Grape variety Kesha - description pruning and care

Grapes are one of the most delicious berries. There are many varieties of this plant, among which is Kesha. Kesha grapes have distinctive features, including the specificity of taste and care features. In order for the plant to grow properly and bear fruit, it must be properly planted and regularly maintained. This plant is not very demanding, so any amateur gardener will cope with the tasks of growing.

Kesha grapes are included in the group of table forms. It is considered a baptized version of Frumoas Alba and the popular Rapture grape variety. The characteristic of grapes called Kesha says the following:

  • this hybrid ripens very quickly: the ripening period of berries is 120-125 days;
  • it has very massive, well-ripening branches and beautiful clusters, the weight of which can reach 1200 g;
  • berries can be of different shapes, with a small number of seeds, no more than 2-3, most often they are conical and cylindrical;
  • one bunch can weigh up to 700 g on average: it depends on what the crop was like;
  • the taste of berries is rich, soft, they have dense pulp;
  • the advantage of the variety is that it is self-pollinating;
  • growth is accelerated, the shoots ripen well, which classifies Kesha grapes in the group of gazebos;
  • the more years the bush, the more it yields;
  • high sugar content: 22 to 25%; low acidity - from 6 to 8 g / l.

Large berries ripen on clusters, which are arranged in no particular order. In this regard, the clusters do not have a clear appearance. The average size of a berry is 30 * 27 mm, and the weight is 11-15 g. Grape rating for taste is 8 points. It has a good presentation, so it is often used to decorate the table.

The cultivar description also notes:

  • good taste qualities;
  • uniform ripening of fruits;
  • the beauty of massive brushes;
  • high fertility of the bush;
  • ease of plant care.

Kesha is not picky and has immunity against various diseases. The first fruits appear 3 years after the planting was completed. If properly cared for, the vine will bear fruit every year. It is resistant to frost and can withstand temperatures down to -22°C.

The characteristic and description also include disadvantages, which include a decrease in clusters due to high yields. It can also be harmed by nitrogen and other types of top dressing. Photos of Kesh grapes can be seen on the Internet, as well as videos of planting and care.

What are the types of plants?

Kesha grapes have several varieties. They are commonly called grapes Kesha 1 or 2. The first of the hybrids is very popular and in high demand. Very often it is called "Superkesha" or "Talisman". Such a demand and recognition of the variety is due to the fact that it bears fruit well and does not require careful care. It is resistant to various types of fungi and other pests. It also has good frost resistance.

Its berries and clusters are very large. Red Talisman is one of the best grape varieties, as it has a bountiful harvest and high palatability of the berries. They mature within 125-135 days. Also sometimes they can have a black tint.

When the berries are fully ripe, they resemble the smell of nutmeg. The disadvantage of this variety is that it has a female flower appearance, so pollination is needed.

The second variety, which can also be called "Kesha Muscat", "Tamerlan", was obtained after crossing the first variety of Keshi and Radiant Kishmish. It has a more pronounced nutmeg smell and fast aging time: about 105-115 days. The mass of brushes can reach 1.2 kg. The berries are quite large and, when ripe, have an amber hue.

Both varieties are good in their own way and quite popular, as they have good taste and presentation.

How to grow a plant?

Kesha grapes have a very clear description, like each of the grape varieties, it needs certain conditions for care and planting. If you need to grow a good fruitful bush, certain requirements must be taken into account. Below we consider the main ones.

  • To equip the vineyard well, you need to choose a site with fertile soil. Of course, black soil would be an ideal option. The ground should not be too wet. If groundwater is adjacent to its surface, most likely the root system will rot.
  • Landing should be on the South side of the garden. Here the bushes will be provided with the necessary warmth and light. It is impossible to land in places where the shadow falls heavily, as this is detrimental to the plant.
  • Both varieties can be planted in spring and autumn. Planting time should be chosen based on the region of growth and its climatic conditions.
  • There are two options for growing plants. The first is the seedling, and the second is the stock, which is grafted onto the old bush. Seedlings are best planted in the spring, when it is already warm outside. The air temperature must be at least 15°C. Before planting, you need to prepare holes located at a distance of 1.5 m from each other.
  • Since the vine of a young plant is very fragile, you need to be careful with it. So that they do not break, they are tied to a support. The root collar and grafting site should be above the ground. The roots are covered with earth, which is mixed with fertilizers.
  • After landing, it is necessary to carry out watering, at least 25 liters.

Growing must be correct. The landing rules are very simple and do not require special knowledge. Any amateur gardener can handle them.

How to properly care for a plant?

The quantity and quality of fruits depends on the observance of the rules for caring for grapes. Kesha grapes are not very picky, but if they are provided with everything necessary, the result will be many times better. In the first years after planting, proper watering and periodic treatment from pests is enough. Also, the bush must be cut so that it takes the desired shape.

Pruning is performed from 8 to 12 eyes. Since Kesha grapes grow very quickly, this process must be carefully controlled and excess shoots removed.

In the period from spring to autumn, the Kesha grape variety is pruned a little to make it stronger. You need to water the bush twice. The first - after winter, before the buds appear, and the second - after the flowering period. Watering should be with 15 liters of water. If the summer is very hot and dry, additional watering will be required.

The Kesha grape variety is resistant to frost, so it does not require careful warming. In late autumn, the bush is spudded and covered with various types of materials.

You can fertilize Kesha grapes once a year. It is also necessary to remove extra clusters, leaving 1 or 2 on layouts. This is necessary so that the vine does not become thin, which can lead to the fact that not all berries will ripen.

It is better to use phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, as they have a good effect on the Kesha grape variety, but nitrogen should be avoided.

To eliminate overflows, it is enough to install drainage devices that will remove excess water.

How to prune a plant and prepare for wintering?

In order for the Kesha grape variety to have a beautiful shape, it must be cut. It is also necessary to evenly distribute the load on the branches. Constantly need to cut off damaged and parched branches, but only after fruiting. The vine should be pruned in the fall, when it is preparing for bed, or in the spring, before the buds have blossomed.

If you cut the vines correctly, the harvest will be of high quality and large. Cluster pruning may also be required, especially when drought is present.

Before the onset of cold weather, young vines are well insulated. They can be covered with different materials, including straw, hay, dry leaves, branches and some kind of dense material. The branches must be removed from the supports and well attached to the soil. In November, the plant falls asleep and covered with a film.

Proper care and insulation, as well as planting, are the key to good development of the vine and its fertility. They do not require special knowledge and training, so everyone can implement them. Regular control of the plant will make its vines and fruits very beautiful.

Since ancient times, grapes have been considered a royal plant, as it has a large amount of useful substances, vitamins, which are so necessary for the body. It is also no secret that it is from it that such a wonderful and tasty drink as wine is made. In order to improve and develop viticulture, which scientists just do not come up with today, creating and crossing many grape plants to obtain an even better, healthier and more tasty variety. One of these hybrids is the Kesha grape.

If you are the owner, then you have probably thought more than once about growing a rich harvest of grapes. This plant does not require special conditions and does not need complex care. Grapes "Kesha", a description of the variety, the photo of which can be found on our website, will bring you a rich harvest of juicy, sweet and large berries.

Grapes "Kesha" - variety description

Kesha is an early grape variety that mostly ripens by early August. The ripening period is about a hundred days, maybe more, depending on the climate where it grows. Kesha's berries turn yellow before they have time to ripen. Large clusters weigh about a kilogram, sometimes one and a half kilograms. The shape of each berry is round, dark green in color. The weight of each berry is from seven to ten grams. The surface of the berry is dense, which protects it from heavy rains, so as not to crack or burst. The pulp inside is juicy, with a hint of nutmeg and an attractive aroma. In winter, grapes can withstand temperatures up to -24 degrees. The variety is resistant to oidium and gray rot. The harvest itself remains on the bushes for a long time, sometimes until it dries. Sugar content is 15%.

The pulp of the berry is juicy, with a taste of nutmeg

How to plant grapes "Kesha" at their summer cottage? In order for the grapes to justify all hopes, it should be planted correctly. How to do it? Consider a few tips:

  1. You need to choose a suitable place in the garden with good lighting, so that there is no blackout, and the sun penetrates well into the landing site.
  2. The soil itself should be light, fruitful. Moderate moisture of the earth inside the root, where the plant is planted and superficial too. The soil should be prepared twenty days before planting seedlings. It is also necessary to reduce the acidity of the soil, since its high content is not desirable for the root itself. To do this, you need a lime mortar in the composition, which will include -200 grams of the mixture, calculated per square meter of area.
  3. The space around the grapes must also be carefully prepared by destroying the weeds. This will contribute to the good development and formation of the fetus.
  4. Protecting against diseases and pests is the main task of the grower. Kesha is attacked by many insects, so timely spraying is the best way to protect the bush.

Important! In winter, especially after planting grapes, the plant must be wrapped. Otherwise, severe frosts can cause the branches to die off and the root system of the shrub to rot.

How to care for Kesha grapes?

Pruning grapes is one of the main processes in the development of growth and fruit ripening. But this procedure should be done correctly, otherwise the plant will die or get sick, and as a result of all this, it will not bear fruit or the crop will be in small quantities and in poor condition. Autumn pruning is best suited for northern climates.

Circumcision of Keshi is the main process in the development of growth

What else is included in the mandatory care of grapes?

  1. Fertilizer. Only organic can be used. You should also feed the grapes with urea. It will help extend the life of any grape variety. It is important to know that it is better to add urea in the spring, as it will help the intensive formation of clusters with large berries.
  2. Moisturizing. Although the Kesha plant is picky, it needs regular, plentiful watering. Just do not do this too often, otherwise the root system will begin to rot.
  3. Soil loosening. This is done in order to destroy weeds and fill the soil with oxygen.
  4. Protection against infections and pests. Shrub treatment should be done in early spring, before the formation of clusters.

Should I hide shrubs in winter? In any case, it is worth sheltering for the winter, even if the climate is southern. So you insure the root system, vines and eye from unexpected weather events in the winter. There is no natural fall of leaves in grapes. This process occurs mainly after the first frost.

What is not unimportant for those involved in the grape business is the elastic skin of the berries, thanks to which you can easily transport it without fear that it will burst or deteriorate completely. Green and unripe shoots usually die. The Kesha seedling is wrapped with rag material, and polyethylene is used on top of it and tightly tied so that the wind does not blow.

Kesha is the best of domestic grape varieties. The main characteristics of taste, productivity are at their best. Two hybrids are popular with winegrowers: Kesha 1, Kesha 2. Hybrids are the results of further work of breeders.

Bunch of Kesha grapes

Varieties Vostorg, Froumoasa Albe served as breeding material for table grapes Kesha. The Kesha variety is commercial, it is in demand on the market. Berries are suitable for the production of white wine and fresh consumption.

The berries are large (32 * 35 mm), oval, weigh from 10 to 15 g. The skin is white with a creamy tint. The pulp is transparent, light. Seed content is low (1-3 pcs). The taste is harmonious, rich, rated by the tasting commission at 8 points. The chemical composition of the pulp of Kesha grapes:

  • sugars from 19 to 24%;
  • acids from 5 to 8 g/l.

The berries are collected in clusters of conical or conical-cylindrical shape. The average weight of one bunch depends on agricultural technology. In the absence of crop rationing, a bunch can weigh only 600 g, with properly rationed - 1.2 kg.

The bushes are powerful with a well-developed root system. Up to 80% of shoots bear fruit. Permissible load on the bush - from 35 to 40 eyes. The load on the sleeve is calculated based on the age of the grape bush. On one sleeve there should be as many clusters as the bush is years old.

The entry into the fruiting season is later - 4 or 5 years after planting. Harvests are annual. The size of the harvest directly depends on the quality of care. A large harvest is possible only with regular top dressing. The duration of the growing season of the variety is average, it lasts from 120 to 130 days.

Bunch of Kesha variety 1

The table hybrid Kesha 1 has other names that are in use among grape lovers: Talisman, Super Kesha. It can be noted in the hybrid increased resistance to frost.

The frost resistance of the Talisman is an order of magnitude higher than that of the Kesha variety, the bushes withstand frosts down to -25 ° C. Despite this, in the middle latitudes it is better to grow in a covering culture, this helps prevent the sleeves from freezing.

Sustained immunity to fungal infection is commendable. Talisman bushes rarely suffer from grape diseases: gray rot, mildew. Only female flowers are a feature of the Kesha 1 variety (Talisman). To get a good harvest, it will be better if there are other pollinating varieties in the garden.

Kesha 1 ripens in medium terms (125-135 days). Produces bunches from 800 g to 1 kg, loose or conical. The berries are conical, light red in color, large, weighing up to 16 g.

The size of an average berry in centimeters is 3.5 * 3.1. The taste is excellent, light notes of nutmeg are felt in the taste of ripe berries. The keeping quality and transportability of berries is good.

Kesha 1 variety is vigorous, requiring shaping. Decent yields are given only with good agricultural technology:

  1. Carrying out top dressing with a balanced complex of fertilizers.
  2. Proper organization of watering.
  3. Harvest regulation.
  4. Removal of stepchildren.
  5. Carrying out additional pollination during mass flowering.

Large bunch of Tamerlan variety

Kesha 2 is a hybrid obtained as a result of selection work with varieties Kesha 1 and Kishmish Radiant. Other names of the variety: Tamerlan, Zlatogor, Kesha nutmeg. This hybrid has a medium ripening period, clusters will ripen in 120-130 days.

Berries in the phase of full ripeness are amber, clear nutmeg notes can be traced in the taste. The berries are large in size: dimensions - 30 * 35 mm, weight up to 16 g. The berries are collected in conical clusters, the largest clusters weighing more than a kilogram, smaller ones around 800 grams. The chemical composition of the pulp:

  1. Sugar - up to 23%.
  2. Acids - up to 8 g / l.

The norm of bunches for escape is up to 2 pieces. The number of fruit-bearing shoots as a percentage is from 75 to 90%. The hybrid is self-pollinating. Additional pollination during the flowering period significantly increases the yield. Clusters can hang on the vine for a long time without losing their taste and without crumbling. During transportation, the bunches do not lose their commercial qualities.

The critical temperature for a hybrid is considered to be -25 ° C. The variety can be grown in a covering culture in the middle lane. Requires high-quality agricultural technology:

  1. Application of fertilizers.
  2. Watering.
  3. Normalization of ovaries and the number of eyes.
  4. Formative pruning.
  5. Stepchildren control.
  6. Shelter for the winter.

Hybrid Kesha 2 in resistance to major grape diseases is not inferior to its closest relatives Kesha and Super Kesha. At the same time, the prevention of diseases with the use of fungicides is not superfluous.

planting grapes

Grapes of the Kesha variety are demanding on the composition of the soil, the best results are obtained when growing vines on black soil. When choosing a site for planting, take into account the large length of the root. Close groundwater is a contraindication when determining the location for the landing pit.

Reference. Seedlings can be planted at an air temperature of at least 15 ° C, while the soil temperature should not be below 10 ° C.

In the middle lane, the best time for planting is early spring. In the south, it is possible to plant seedlings of Kesha grapes in late autumn. Landing pits should be placed taking into account the size of an adult bush. The interval between the bushes should be from 1.5 to 2 m.

Mix the soil to fill the planting pit with humus and phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. Lay a drainage layer at the bottom of the pit, it will eliminate the stagnation of excess fluid, and reduce the risk of root disease. The root neck of the seedling after planting, filling the hole with mulch should be above ground level. It is recommended to maintain a distance of 5 cm.

Immediately after planting, it is required to cut the aerial part of the seedling into 2 buds. Install a solid support in advance. It is needed in the future to form a bush of the correct shape. Pour 3 buckets of water into the hole.

Formation of grapes

The seedling needs minimal care in the first summer after planting. Summer works of the first year:

  • watering;
  • weeding;
  • loosening the soil;
  • mulching.

Before the onset of cold weather, a young seedling needs to be spudded and insulated with a covering material, spruce branches or dry grass. Avoid contact between the vine and non-woven covering material. There should be a gap between them, since at the points of contact the vine can freeze slightly.

Work at the gardener is added in the second year. In the spring, you need to free the bush from shelter, unwind, and revise the branches. Cut damaged and broken branches. Treat the shoots with 1% Bordeaux mixture. Stimulate the plant with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers applied according to the norm.

During the summer, observe the bush, remove stepchildren, extra shoots. Be sure to normalize the number of clusters on one shoot. It is optimal to leave one bunch, with good care two. The variety has pea. They fight it by reducing the load on the bush, partial removal of leaves, shortening the bunch.

Soil mulching is an important element of care. In summer, mulch protects the roots from overheating, the soil from moisture evaporation. In winter, it prevents soil freezing and freezing of roots.

Grape cuttings in solution

The Kesha variety comes into fruiting late. Winegrowers have found how to bring the time of harvesting the first harvest closer. You will need a one-year-old lignified stalk of Kesha grapes and an old vine.

The cut of the cutting must be held in a solution of copper sulphate (1-3%) for no more than 30 seconds. The stem of the stock must be cleaned and a split made with a sharp grafting knife and a cutting inserted into it. If the split is large, you can insert several cuttings at the same time. Wrap the grafting site tightly with grafting tape or twine and coat with clay. A bush obtained by grafting onto an old vine comes into fruition much earlier.

Domestic breeders contributed to the emergence of the Kesha grape variety. This culture is characterized by good endurance to the effects of both pathogenic microorganisms and the environment. Grapes give a good and large harvest, exceeding the volume of several kilograms from one vine. The berries have a pleasant taste and do not crumple during transportation.

This variety of grapes was created by Kuban breeders. This culture is a hybrid. The latter was obtained by crossing the Moldovan variety White Beauty and Rapture. Moreover, the latter was also bred at the Kuban Institute.

The name Kesha is used not only for this variety. There are several cultures with the same name that have similar features.

The variety has retained the features inherent in parental forms. In particular, grapes have gained the ability to withstand the effects of many diseases, and provide a high yield for each vine.

Description of the Kesha grape

There are two varieties of grapes of this variety: Kesha-1 (Talisman) and Kesha-2. The latter is also a hybrid. To get the second grade, they crossed the first culture and Radiant Kishmish.

The description of this variety says that grapes are among the early ripening crops. The berries are ready for making wine after about 140 days from the start of flowering. The fruits can be harvested towards the end of August.

A 5-meter vine grows from the shoots of this culture. The plant is self-pollinating. That is, there are flowers of both sexes on the vine.

Clusters are characterized by large size and lack of peas (plant growth is not accompanied by the formation of small berries). Each fruit has a dense and elastic texture. The total length of each bunch reaches 24 centimeters.

Brushes, as they grow, take the form of a cylinder or cone. In mature plants, the weight of the bunch reaches 1 kilogram. Due to such high rates, more than two brushes should not be allowed to appear on one shoot.

During the ripening period, green berries are formed on the vine, which, having reached technical ripeness, acquire a light yellow color. Fruits differ in uniform structure and sweet smack.

The skin of grapes is dense, but it is easily chewed while eating. Thanks to this shell, the bunches are not damaged during transportation. Therefore, Kesha grapes are often grown for sale.

The fruits of this culture are characterized by the following features:

  • sugar concentration is 20-25%;
  • the acid content is 4.8-8 grams per liter;
  • weight reaches 14 grams.

The shape of the berries is round, and inside the fruit there are no more than three seeds.

Species diversity

Kesha-1 is characterized by high (more than related forms) resistance to sub-zero temperatures. At the same time, if grapes are grown in the Middle Strip of the country, the vine is recommended to be planted inside greenhouses.

The talisman is distinguished by good immunity to most varieties of pathogenic fungi. Pathogenic microorganisms that are dangerous for the variety include mildew and gray rot. An important feature of the Talisman is that only female flowers are present on the vine. Therefore, together with Kesha-1, it is recommended to plant other varieties on the site that can pollinate the plant.

The talisman is growing rapidly, so it requires constant pruning. It takes up to 135 days for grapes to ripen. The total weight of a bunch on an adult plant reaches 1 kilogram. Brushes, as they grow, acquire a conical or loose shape. Ripe berries are light red in color.

Kesha-2 (Kesha Muscat, Tamerlane, Zlatogor) gives a harvest 130 days after the appearance of the first flowers. The berries of this hybrid are distinguished by the following characteristics:

  • dimensions - 30 * 35 millimeters;
  • weight - 16 grams;
  • sugar level - 23%;
  • acidity - 8 grams per liter.

This hybrid is self-pollinating. The brushes of the plant are able to hang on the vine for several weeks without losing their original characteristics.

What are the benefits?

Grapes have many benefits, including the following:

  • relatively low maintenance requirements;
  • regular appearance of fruits;
  • uniform ripening of berries;
  • fast acclimatization to a new region of growth;
  • pleasant taste;
  • good presentation;
  • long shelf life;
  • good immunity to fungi.

Among the shortcomings of the variety is the average resistance to diseases characteristic of most varieties of grapes. This hybrid does not tolerate frost well, provided that the vine was left open for the winter. In addition, due to the rapid growth, the plant must be pruned in a timely manner. The remaining shoots and stepchildren form a crown for several months, which interferes with the ripening of fruits.

Main characteristics

Grapes withstand, on average, frosts down to -23 degrees. Therefore, the culture is planted in Central Russia, subject to the provision of proper shelter. Berries are able to lie in the refrigerator for a long time, retaining their original properties.

The Kesha variety is used for cultivation on an industrial scale. The popularity of grapes is due to the high transportability and good presentation of berries.

Plant cuttings take root quickly. With proper care, the vine begins to produce a crop 2 years after planting. Despite the fact that grapes can withstand the effects of fungal microorganisms, the plant requires regular treatment with Brodsky liquid and fungicides, which will protect the culture from the harmful effects of bacteria and oidium.

Variety Kesha is one of the perennials. Subject to the rules of cultivation, the vine yields more than 10 years.

Variety maturity dates

Grapes of the Kesha variety give a harvest 125-135 days after the appearance of the first flowers. Harvest begins to be harvested in mid or late August. Clusters can hang on the vine until September without losing their presentation and taste.

Landing features

The vine of the Kesha variety is recommended to be grown in black soil, since the plant has high requirements for the composition of the soil. The culture has a long root, which must be considered when choosing a growing site. If groundwater is close to the surface of the earth, it is recommended to dig a hole in another part of the site.

Planting of grapes is carried out under the condition that the ambient temperature exceeds +15 degrees, the soil - +10 degrees. For Central Russia, early spring is considered a suitable period for growing seedlings, for the south of the country - spring and autumn.

The distance between plants should exceed 1.5 meters. This interval should be taken into account when determining the places where grapes grow.

The plant is planted in soil mixed with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers and humus. At the bottom of the pit, a drainage layer is necessarily formed, which will prevent fluid stagnation and the development of diseases of the root system.

After falling asleep with soil, the neck of the seedling should remain above the ground at a level of 5 centimeters. Upon completion of planting, the aerial part of the cutting is cut into 2 buds. At the same time, it is recommended to install a support that will ensure the formation of a bush of the correct shape. After completing all the manipulations, the seedling must be watered with three buckets of water.

Near the grapes, a drainage system should be formed that will remove excess moisture.

Care and cultivation

In the first year after planting, the grapes require constant watering and 2-3-fold treatment of the vine with fungicides. Later, during the season, it is necessary to remove excess shoots, thereby giving the bush the correct shape.

Twice a year, the vine requires abundant watering (13-14 liters of water): the first time - before the buds swell, the second time - after the grapes have faded. For normal crop growth, it is enough to apply phosphorus-potassium fertilizers once.

During the season, it is necessary to regularly mulch the soil using manure. Dried stems and defective branches should be removed, otherwise the rate of plant development will decrease. Pruning is carried out in early spring or autumn.

All branches, including those fixed on a support, must be removed and laid to the ground before the onset of frost. For reliable fixation, it is recommended to use a wire. After that, the vine should be covered with foliage or dry branches, and a plastic wrap should be laid on top.

To speed up fruiting, a stiff cutting is used, which is kept for 30 seconds in a 1-3% solution of copper sulfate, and then grafted onto the plant.

About diseases and pests

The Kesha variety is susceptible to the following pests:

  1. Powdery mildew. This fungus infects the leaves. Powdery mildew is characterized by rapid development and appears as a yellowish coating on greenery. To combat this pest, fungicides and a solution of iron sulfate are used.
  2. Gray rot. Infection occurs due to high humidity. Gray rot causes the formation of brown spots on the surface of the leaves. In case of infection, the affected parts are removed.
  3. Ticks. Provoke the appearance of brown, light or yellow spots on the surface of the leaves. Tick-borne infection is dangerous for humans.

Grapes of the Kesha variety are rarely affected by these pests. If signs of infection appear, the plant must be treated immediately.
