How to adjust the closing of plastic windows. How to adjust plastic windows: detailed instructions

Hide

Until recently, the word "adjustment" was applied only to fairly complex devices, and windows did not apply to them.

Today, when the window has ceased to be just glass inserted into the frame, adjustment has become an integral part of the competent operation of window structures.

Some serious problems that appear already at the beginning of operation are due to the dishonesty of the company that installed the windows for you. Perhaps there were violations during the production process or at the installation stage. Under not the most favorable scenario, both could take place at the same time.

This article will tell you about the most correct way to install PVC windows.

How to produce without resorting to the help of service workers? Instructions are waiting for you at:

If you need it, then for this case of life you will find instructions on our website.

But even if the window was made in compliance with the entire technological chain and correctly installed, it adjustment should be carried out at least twice a year.

Adjustment of double-glazed windows of plastic windows may be required in the following most frequent cases:

 • when closing, the sash clings to the frame;
 • because of the loose fit of the shutters, it blows from your window;
 • locking bars are worn out;
 • the handle does not turn, and it is impossible to open or close the window.

What do you need to adjust double-glazed windows?

In principle, the design of modern windows is quite technologically advanced and unified. Therefore, a simple window adjustment can be done independently, having elementary experience with the simplest locksmith tools.

To adjust the windows you will need an improvised tool

To make it convenient to work, you will need:

 • hex key;
 • screwdrivers - flat and Phillips;
 • pliers;
 • a set of so-called "stars"

Just in case, stock up on silicone and universal grease, gloves and rags (only it is desirable that the pile does not fall off it). Well, an assistant will not hurt, although with a certain skill it is quite possible to cope alone.

Some time after installing the plastic window, it is necessary to adjust the valves. To do this, you can use the services of specialists, which may be installers from the company that installed the window, but most often this will create additional difficulties, plus call costs.

It is quite possible to make this adjustment on your own, completely refusing the services of specialists.

Replacing and adjusting the plastic window handle

If there is a need to replace (the old one is cracked or, for example, you need a handle with a lock), do the following. Rotate the plate at the base of the handle 90 degrees. The screws that secure the handle to the sash will become visible. They need to be unscrewed with a screwdriver of a suitable size, remove the old handle and fix the new one with the same screws.

By turning the plate, the fixing bolts of the handle will be accessible.

To replace a worn part with a new handle, just follow these steps:

 • Pull the pad on the old handle towards you a little, then turn it at a right angle.
 • Then unscrew the screws, remove the broken element, install a new one in its place.
 • Reinstall the cover in its original position.

The most affordable handles will cost you 100-200 rubles if you buy on the construction market. A branded pen from an authorized dealer can cost several times more.

The window handle is jammed, it does not turn, and the window does not close

When the handle is jammed when the sash is open and the window does not close, a more thorough approach is needed. Most likely, the blocker just worked, which prevents the handle from turning when the window is open. In general, this feature protects your window from breakage by lovers of twisting everything without understanding it. But if it's stuck, something needs to be done.

AUBI window handle unlocking

Determine the brand of fittings: it will be indicated by a word that can be read on a metal constipation.

If it is written, then press the thin spring-loaded plate near the handle tightly with your finger to the sealing gasket and, turning the handle, close the window (the sash must be strictly vertical).

If it is written, or something else, then find a metal tongue under the handle directed to the frame, push it (it should become parallel to the seal) and turn the handle.

To unlock the window handle, press the pawl against the window frame

If the handle is jammed in the ventilation mode, most often the reason lies in the jamming of the mechanism called “scissors” in the upper corner. You can deal with the problem only after removing the sash from the hinges.

To do this, carefully remove the decorative caps and unscrew the screws. After that, inspect the ventilation locking mechanism, find and try to adjust the elements that have flown down. Put all the elements in place and check the operation of the "scissors". They should be adjacent to the top loop. After that, install the sash in place in the window opening.
The problems of the swing-out mechanism are eliminated quite simply. If the window opened in two modes at once, it is necessary to quickly return the sash to its place with a slight pressure, and lower the handle down for the closed mode.

The window stopped closing and the handle does not turn

If, after you have closed the window, the handle does not turn, then this indicates that the interlock clutch with the counterpart located on the frame has ceased to work. This problem is solved in two ways:

 • You can slightly move the sash towards the counterpart of the blocker by means of the adjustment screw.
 • After loosening the mount a little, insert a thin plate between the frame and the reciprocal element of the blocker.

Fixing tight opening and closing of the window handle

The cause of the tight closing of the window handle may be dried grease. You can use WD-40 for lubrication.

The window also needs to be adjusted when the handle has become tight and does not turn all the way. The reason may be a simple drying of the lubricant or a sagging window sash.

First, let's try a simple option: lubricate all-purpose grease (for example, WD-40) on all moving parts, especially the corner gears located at the top.

If this does not help, you need to turn the adjusting screws located on the hinges.

To extend the life of the key components of the window mechanism must be periodically lubricated

If the sash handle opens with some effort, there may be several reasons. This may be contamination of the mechanism and accessories, drying of the lubricant or excessive force of the clamping mechanism.

To clean and lubricate the sash handle, it is removed, cleaned of dust and other contaminants, lubricated with WD-40 impregnating compound and mounted in place. For the convenience of coating fittings with grease, a nozzle with a tube is used. Impregnation is recommended every time a window is adjusted.

Adjusting the hinges of plastic windows when sagging

If the used plastic windows do not close normally, and the sashes are not tightly pressed against the frame, then do-it-yourself adjustment of the plastic windows is required. There are certain mechanisms for specific tasks.

Scheme for adjusting window hinges with tolerances

Very often there is a need for self-adjustment of the window when sagging, touching the frame when closing, opening.

Pressing the window sash

In general, the entire setup process is quite simple, only 3 points on the upper and lower loops are responsible for it. Let's consider the methods in detail.

The window touches the frame from below, - adjustment when the window sash sags

When the sash sags, make a vertical adjustment

If when opening the sash touches the lower edge of the frame, vertical adjustment of the window is required.

We turn the adjusting screw with a hex wrench, which is located at the end of the sash near the bottom hinge. We twist a few turns clockwise.

The window will rise when the key is turned clockwise, and fall when turned counterclockwise. Adjustment range - within 2 mm

The window sash touches the frame from the side, - horizontal adjustment

Horizontal top hinge adjustment

If the sash touches the frame from the side, we perform horizontal adjustment, it is done by adjusting the upper and lower hinges.

Turn the key clockwise to pull the sash to the hinge, and counterclockwise to move the sash away from the hinge.

Horizontal Adjustment of the Bottom Window Hinge

Adjustment of the bottom loop is made both at the closed and open window. Using the screw located under the lower hinge, we adjust the sash, taking it down. If this is not enough, we additionally take it away in the direction of the upper loop.

Prepare windows for winter - plastic window pressure adjustment

The temperate climate in which we live is easily tolerated by modern metal-plastic structures. However, your windows will last longer and create fewer problems in the future if you carry out a little preventive maintenance before the onset of each winter.

Seasonal adjustment winter-summer

Be sure to remove all dirt, check for cracks. Evaluate: if you have doubts about their integrity, be sure to change the worn ones. Otherwise, in winter you risk freezing or overpaying for heating. If the seals are intact, carefully lubricate them with silicone grease - it will prevent water and frost from adversely affecting the elastic material.

The plastic window clamp is quite easy to adjust if you follow the sequence of actions. Find in the handle area located at the side end, a system of eccentrics that serve as the main adjustment tool.

Striker plates and pins regulate the pressure of the sash against the frame

Even at the stage of installing windows, ask if your windows have the ability to switch to winter mode. If this moment is missed, you can try to determine yourself.

The fittings are switched to seasonal mode with the help of eccentrics located on the side of the sash. They are also called pins. You can change the mode on those fittings in which the shape of the trunnion is oval, or the eccentrics have holes for a tool - a screwdriver or a "hexagon".

Also, by adjusting the pressure of the trunnions, it is possible to eliminate the blowing between the window seal and the frame, which occurs when the sash is not sufficiently pressed against the frame.

Pin adjustment scheme

Each trunnion (and there may be several on the sash) must be moved to the required position (see the figure on the left).

You need to turn, as a rule, clockwise until it stops. Some types of fittings suggest the principle of "watch winding" - first you need to pull the trunnion towards you and only then turn it. After the transfer of the fittings, the trunnion must be “drowned” again.

Scheme of operation of the trunnion for plastic windows

Now you should check the result: if everything is done correctly and to the end, when the window is closed, the handle will turn tighter. If you press a sheet of plain paper with a sash, then after switching to winter mode, it will be quite difficult to pull it out.

But keep in mind: with the onset of heat, the windows must be switched to summer mode, otherwise the fittings will wear out quickly and will have to be changed.

The cost of adjusting windows in Moscow

Prices for window adjustment in Moscow

The spread of prices for window adjustment, as well as for many other services, is quite significant. The final figure will depend on the reputation of the company, the cost of spare parts and consumables used, and of course on the degree of deterioration of the window structure. The area of the window and the presence of a balcony block also play a role.

Here is the average cost of some window adjustment work in an ordinary Moscow company:

 • applying sealant (per linear meter) - from 30 to 90 rubles (the price depends on the width and depth of the seam);
 • window handles - from 400 rubles for the most ordinary white to 1200 rubles for a handle with a lock;
 • seal replacement - from 150 to 200 rubles for any window profile;
 • window mechanism lubrication - 100 rubles;
 • adjustment of the window mechanism - from 350 to 500 rubles;
 • - from 800 to 1000 rubles.
 • repair of window fittings - from 2000 to 5000 rubles.

As a result, for example, a range of services for preparing all the windows of an apartment for winter can result in an impressive amount. You can spend this money with greater benefit if you use our tips for adjusting plastic windows with your own hands. However, in the case when the window is seriously broken, or you are simply very far from any locksmith work, do not hesitate to contact a specialized company.

Video on adjusting windows in different ways

Depending on the problems and the method of regulation will be different.

Buying and installing even the most expensive double-glazed windows is only half the battle. In order for the purchase to properly carry the functions assigned to it, you need to know how to fix plastic windows. Do it yourself or call the master - everyone needs to decide individually. If the warranty period has not expired, then it would be logical to call a specialist from the company where the PVC windows were purchased. And if the warranty has expired a long time ago, then you can try adjust your windows. This is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

Almost all modern PVC windows adjustable in three planes, thanks to which it is not difficult to set the frame strictly according to the level. Before starting work, be sure to read the instructions for your model - despite the general principles and sequence of actions, which tool is needed.

How to adjust plastic window hinges

Typical PVC windows rarely have a window - such a model is considered non-standard and leads to an increase in the cost of the final product due to more waste. Ventilation is carried out by turning the handle in the upper position, and a special loop is responsible for the latter. If plastic window doesn't close well, then you need to start with them.

The upper hinge breaks off usually if the window was opened incorrectly or abruptly. Poor fit does not close tightly and leads to blowing. To eliminate this, press the sash against the frame and make several opening and closing movements, stopping in the “closed” position.

If uncharacteristic clicks are noticed when opening and closing, then this means that the side and bottom hinges have weakened and began to touch the frame. This often happens in old houses - the building is crumbling, which, first of all, is reflected in the windows. Open the window, find the hinges, and they contain special hexagons. Using a 4mm wrench, adjust the position of the leaves by loosening and tightening the screws alternately. The thread there is right-handed, twist - clockwise, unscrew - against. This method eliminates bevels by shifting the frame.

How to adjust the pressure of a plastic window

Weak pressure - the cause of drafts, and overtightened - leads to wear of the seal. Bring a lighter or a piece of paper (small and thin paper) to the edge of the plastic window. If there are fluctuations, then it is urgent to adjust it - remove the gap.
This is done with the help of special eccentrics located with a certain step around the entire perimeter. They also set the "winter", "summer" and "universal" position of the clamp. When the handle is turned, they "hide" behind the pressure pads, thereby providing the desired tension.

Counterclockwise is loosening, clockwise is tightening. Pay attention to the special risk - she did not do it for a screwdriver at all. Its turn to the window is a summer option, into the room - a winter one, up (or down) - universal (medium degree of pressure). Experimentally with a hex wrench, find the desired tension. But don't go for the super-strong fit, this can lead to the fact that the seal may break, especially if the window is not new (and you will have to partially or completely replace the seal).

Handle and closing adjustment

The plastic window does not close well - how to adjust? First, never use physical force - you will only break it completely. Secondly - pull back the plastic and inspect the locking assembly. Perhaps it will be "cured" by the usual cleaning of dust and dirt. The third reason is blocker. This is such a movable metal "tongue" (there is in the photo in the first part of the article). Open the window, press it with your hand and turn the handle. If the handle turns freely, and when the window is closed, the handle is turned tightly, you need to adjust the blocker. Adjust it so that it freely reaches the "answer" (adjacent window).

How to adjust a plastic window so that it does not blow

"How to adjust a plastic window so that it does not blow"- this is the question tenants ask themselves when they find "an unauthorized influx of cold air." Here you need to understand what is its primary cause.

It can blow (through) from a plastic window for several reasons:

 • window sill and slopes. Depreciation of uninsulated polyurethane foam occurs in 5-10 years. In this case, it is necessary to re-foam the "siphon" structures;
 • loops. The main reason is the cavities in the mounting holes, they must be sealed (you can use ordinary silicone sealant);
 • bad clamp. It is regulated by special eccentrics (the instructions for adjusting the eccentrics were higher). On some models, they are automatically moved to the desired position (when you close the window), but on most it must be done manually by moving the risk closer to the street;
 • passes around the perimeter of the window: partially or everywhere. Worn seal. This is such a small black sealing gum glued around the perimeter of the window. The old one is removed and the new one is installed. Just do not need to stretch it - under the influence of temperature, this is done automatically.

Metal-plastic windows have a number of advantages: they transmit light well, allow airing the room with different intensity, provide reliable heat and sound insulation, are easy to maintain, durable (on average, their service life is designed for 15-20 years). It would seem that he changed the windows - and you can forget about them. But it was not there. In order for everything to work correctly, it is sometimes necessary to adjust the plastic windows.

Adjustment of plastic windows is necessary at the beginning of the winter and summer seasons and is within the power of everyone

The main adjustment of plastic windows is carried out by specialists during their installation and installation. But over time, even on high-quality "exposed" frames and sashes, some problems may appear associated with violations of the operating technique or deformation of fasteners, moving mechanisms, seals.

Most often, the issues of adjusting plastic windows have to be dealt with in the following cases:

 • seasonal changes in pressure density to ensure comfort in various conditions (winter-summer);
 • the appearance of drafts, if air blows from the street through tightly closed windows;
 • sagging or displacement of the window sashes, which leads to friction and grabbing, clinging to the frame;
 • window handles not working well, not fully turning, or not opening (closing) at all.

Many of these problems are easy to fix by adjusting the plastic windows yourself. If you are unable to determine the cause or think the problem is serious, it is best to seek help from window repair and maintenance professionals.

If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to pay the master for current repairs than to buy new parts later or change the broken window structure completely.

For those who have sliding windows and doors, in case of violations in their work, it is enough to adjust the roller carriages intended for fastening the sashes. If your sashes open or recline and you decide to adjust the plastic windows yourself, then some tools will be required.

Prepare immediately:

 • set of hex keys. First of all, you will need a hexagon with a diameter of 4 mm, which is often called a furniture key, as it is used when assembling furniture;
 • Phillips screwdriver size 3 or 4 mm, preferably with a star nozzle (usually marked T or TX);
 • pliers (pliers);
 • oiler with machine oil and WD-40 universal spray lubricant.

You will need tools to adjust the window yourself. The photo shows a set of hex keys of different diameters

Hexagons are small metal rods bent into an "G" or "S" shape. The shape of the key is unprincipled, but S-shaped ones are considered more convenient to use. Star nozzles may be required when adjusting plastic windows with certain makes and models of hardware. Basically, all the fittings of the master are mounted on ordinary screws and screws, for which a Phillips screwdriver will suffice.

Adjustment of plastic windows for the winter

Before the onset of cold weather, many people want to make sure that the windows close tightly and do not let the slightest cold draft into the house. With a weak pressure on the shutters, you may find that the flame of a lit candle or match brought to a closed window fluctuates strongly and even goes out.

In the photo - the end side of the window sash with fittings, including the pressure adjustment mechanisms are clearly visible

Clamping mechanisms are called locking pins (eccentrics). When the handle is turned to close the sash, they go beyond the pressure pads located along the perimeter of the frame. There are usually three eccentrics on each leaf, which are set to the same position (by default - to the middle, universal). To increase or decrease the pressure, they need to be rotated and moved. This adjustment of plastic windows is easy to do.

In different models of fittings, the trunnions can be simply turned with pliers or a wrench (standard), and also have a hole for a hex key. Some models use mechanisms that are adjusted without tools at all - the eccentric is pulled out by hand and fixed in the desired position.

If you move the eccentric rollers, turning clockwise, then the sash will be pressed against the frame more strongly, and if it is counterclockwise, it will move away from the frame, reducing the pressure. On the surface of the pins there are often small strips, which make it easier to determine the degree of pressure. The closer the strip is to the seal, the stronger the pressure on the sash. The adjustment range of the trunnions is ± 2 mm. In some designs of window fittings, the pressure density is adjusted by twisting special plates located on the window sash with a key.

In addition, there is a clamping mechanism on the window hinges. There it is also regulated with a hexagon. When the key is turned (counterclockwise when the hinges are on the left, or in the direction of the arrow when the hinges are on the right), the tongue extends, increasing the density of the sash pressure. On the hinges, the pressure adjustment stroke is ± 0.8 mm.

When preparing for the winter period, it is better to make the density of pressing the window sashes to the frame maximum

For the summer, it is advised to loosen the clamp to an average or minimum value in order to provide more air access and reduce wear on the seals. When adjusting, it is important to ensure uniform pressure around the entire perimeter of the window, so each pin must be twisted in the same direction and set to the same position.

Plastic window repair professionals warn that pressure adjustments are best done in the smallest ranges, especially for the first time. The fact is that the seals on the sashes wear out over time, shrink, and you have to press harder and harder. If you clamp them too hard from the very beginning, then the rubber will lose its properties much faster. Then the situation will be corrected not by adjusting the pressure, but by replacing the sealing tape. By the way, there is nothing complicated in this: the old rubber is removed, and the new one is inserted into a special groove.

Worn rubber seal is easy to replace: the old rubber is removed and the new one is inserted into a special groove

To do everything right, we recommend that you additionally see how the trunnions (eccentrics) look and how the sash pressure changes when adjusting plastic windows in the next video. So it will be easier for you to carry out the necessary preparation of windows for the winter season.

Sometimes it happens that the sashes move a little, fall, begin to sag and rub against the frames at the bottom or side when opening and closing. This problem can lead to a complete breakdown of the structure, which will require replacement of the window. Small adjustments will allow you to solve it, which you can handle with your own hands in just half an hour.

Consider how to make such an adjustment of plastic windows yourself. Instruction for beginners:

 1. Open the window. Locate the adjustment screw at the end of the sash (usually it is closer to the top).
 2. Take a suitable hex wrench and turn the screw clockwise when you need to raise the sash mechanism, or counterclockwise to lower it.
 3. Check if the operation of the window has changed when closing and opening. If the situation improves, correct it in the same way until the final correction.
All screw tightening should be done little by little, with minimal adjustments, constantly checking the window's performance.

This method allows you to adjust the plastic windows by pressing the sash to the horizontal plane, eliminate the misalignment or move it by ± 2 mm (adjustable range). If there is no positive result, you need to return the adjusting screw to its original state and try another option.

Do not forget about the adjusting screw, which is located under the protective cap (cap) of the lower hinge

To eliminate the friction of the sash against the frame, they also use the adjustment (with a stroke of ± 2 mm) of the window vertically, for which the lower hinge screw is responsible. You can get to it both from inside the house by opening the sash, and from the outside with the window closed. Procedure:

 1. Carefully remove the protective cap from the bottom hinge.
 2. Rotate the adjusting screw in the desired direction (clockwise - the canopy rises, against - it falls), scrolling half a turn with a hex wrench.
 3. Check how the window works. Adjust further if necessary.

For clarity, we offer the following video:

Sashes that provide for various modes of ventilation, that is, folding, sometimes need to be reinforced from the side of the canopies.

Window flap in ventilation mode

Adjustment of plastic windows moving only along the vertical axis is made by tightening the adjusting screw on the bottom hinge. It is located horizontally, that is, perpendicular to the plane of the window. If the design involves winter (micro-slit) ventilation, then you will need to adjust the upper loop. The step by step instructions are:

 1. Open the window sash.
 2. Turn the knob to the ventilation position. On some window models, locks are installed (in the form of a lever or clip), which are responsible for tilting the sash only from the closed position. In this case, you need to press the lock and at the same time turn the handle.
 3. The pressure of the upper leaf is regulated by a screw or a hexagon, which must be turned clockwise (to strengthen the fit) or counterclockwise (to loosen the system). Permissible adjustment stroke ±2.5 mm.
Important: when adjusting the upper hinge in the ventilation mode, hold the sash, as it will only be fixed on one lower hinge.

Handle adjustment

Problems with handles on plastic windows and doors occur quite often. Let's see how we can fix them.

The handle is loose

When the handle dangles, it is necessary to tighten the fixing screws. To do this, the plug under the handle is turned by 90° and the screws located on the plate below it are tightened with a suitable screwdriver.

Usually fasteners have a slot for a Phillips screwdriver.

The handle is difficult to turn

A common cause of such troubles is insufficient lubrication. Accordingly, to eliminate them, it is necessary to lubricate all moving parts (eccentric rollers, hinges, clamping mechanisms and platforms) with machine oil. After that, it is recommended to remove the plug under the handle, use a screwdriver to find out where there are difficulties during the movement of the roller, and adjust them by tightening the screws.

For lubrication, universal aerosols or machine oil are used, which is applied from an oil can, using a brush or a cotton swab.

The handle does not turn

Sometimes it happens that the locks for turning the handle fix its position when the window is open. In such a situation, you need to pay attention to the fittings, or rather to the constipation-blocker itself. For models marked AUBI, you need to direct the sash vertically, press the metal plate with a spring and move the handle to the desired position. Other models (ROTO, GU, etc.) have a metal tab located just below the handle. It is required to press on it and turn it parallel to the sealing gasket.

Handle broke

A broken handle is easy to replace yourself. New ones are sold in companies producing windows, including component parts. On the old handle, turn the decorative cap to get to the mounting screws. They are unscrewed, put a new handle and screwed into place with the same screws.

Main window adjustment points

Summing up, we once again list the main adjustment points for plastic windows:

 • screws are located on the lower hinge, which adjust the position of the entire sash vertically and the lower corner of the sash horizontally;
 • on the upper hinge, the clamping force is adjusted and the upper part of the sash is leveled horizontally;
 • an eccentric locking pin on the end surface is responsible for adjusting the density of pressing the window sash to the frame.

When starting to adjust plastic windows, check all the points listed for possible deformation. If they break, call the master immediately. If debris is found in the moving mechanisms, then clean and lubricate, and then check how the window works.

The easiest way to remove scale and soot from the sole of the iron is with table salt. Pour a thick layer of salt on the paper, heat the iron to the maximum and several times, pressing lightly, run the iron over the salt bedding.

In the dishwasher, not only plates and cups are washed well. It can be loaded with plastic toys, glass shades of lamps and even dirty vegetables, such as potatoes, but only without the use of detergents.

The threads of gold and silver, with which clothes were embroidered in the old days, are called gimp. To obtain them, the metal wire was pulled for a long time with tongs to the state of the required fineness. This is where the expression “pull (raise) the gimp” came from - “engage in long monotonous work” or “delay the execution of the case”.

Before removing various stains from clothes, you need to find out how safe the chosen solvent is for the fabric itself. It is applied in a small amount to an inconspicuous area of the thing from the wrong side for 5-10 minutes. If the material retains its structure and color, you can move on to stains.

Stretch ceilings made of PVC film can withstand from 70 to 120 liters of water per 1 m 2 of its area (depending on the size of the ceiling, the degree of its tension and the quality of the film). So you can not be afraid of leaks from neighbors from above.

Fresh lemon is not only good for tea: clean the dirt from the surface of an acrylic bath by rubbing with a half of a cut citrus, or quickly clean the microwave by placing a container of water and lemon slices in it for 8-10 minutes at maximum power. The softened dirt will simply be wiped off with a sponge.

To combat moths, there are special traps. In the sticky layer with which they are covered, pheromones of females are added to attract males. Sticking to the trap, they drop out of the breeding process, which leads to a decrease in the moth population.

Plastic window structures from different companies have similar adjustments. When they are installed, the average values of the pressure density are set. Over time, under the influence of wear or other factors, the sash may sag and begin to cling to the frame or impost. When the temperature drops, cold air from the street may begin to enter the room. In all these cases, window adjustment is necessary, which can be done independently if you know how to adjust plastic windows for the winter by switching the pressure settings from summer to winter.

What tools are needed to adjust the plastic window

Plastic window systems have become the most popular product that is installed during the construction or renovation of a simple apartment, as well as a luxurious multi-storey mansion. With all the variety of window fittings used in their creation, similar mechanisms are used in all systems. Preparing plastic windows for winter begins with the first cold snap. The main tools that you may need to adjust windows are:

 • hex L-shaped key 4 mm wide;
 • flat screwdriver 4 mm;
 • Phillips screwdriver;
 • pliers.

How to switch windows to winter mode

In order to prepare Euro-windows for the winter period, seasonal adjustment of the pressure of plastic windows is necessary, in which the following steps must be taken:

 1. Adjust the opening sash vertically and horizontally - it should not cling to the frame and clamping bars.
 2. Adjust the clamping force to the frame. The pressure is adjusted using adjustable pins or eccentrics, the number of which is 4-5 pieces on euro-windows, 6-8 pieces on doors.
 3. In the presence of traction at maximum pressure to the frame, it is necessary to replace the seal. Then check the thrust in the middle position of the pins or eccentrics.

The clamp to the frame is based on the engagement of the clamping bars by the rounded elements of the sash when the handle is turned down. These rounded elements, made in the form of an oval, are called pins, and made in the form of a round element with an offset axis of rotation - eccentrics. The rotation of the pins is done with pliers. Installing them vertically creates a minimum pressure, which means the summer pressure mode, horizontally - the strongest pressure. By rotating the eccentric with an adjusting hexagon, you can adjust the pressure from weak to stronger and vice versa.

You can determine the need to replace the rubber seal by inspecting and checking the traction. You can change it in parts - while you save money. Going to buy a sealant, it is worth taking a sample with you and buying a longer piece. It is better to cut off the excess when sticking than to leave a gap. Buy a quality rubber seal. You will need to buy special glue for it. Before inserting the seal into the groove, apply glue over the entire area of contact with the seal, glue it, close the Euro-window for the glue to dry.

Adjustment of windows and adjustment is made in case of large gaps or when it clings to the frame. It is necessary to adjust the opening sash vertically and horizontally in the following cases:

 • if it catches the upper part of the frame - open the sash and slightly push it on the upper canopy with the short side of the L-shaped key;
 • if, due to sagging, the sash catches the lower part of the frame, the same must be done with the lower canopy;
 • if it catches the vertical part of the frame or impost (middle vertical part of the frame), it is necessary to slightly push it on both canopies with the short side of the L-shaped key to the side opposite to the place of such contact.

How to adjust plastic windows yourself

Window adjustment can be done independently with the necessary tools. The only parts that can break and require replacement are the handle and sealing rubber. By adjusting the window pressure, the window is switched to winter mode. In this case, the handle turns with force, the sash is strongly pressed against the frame, strongly squeezing the seal. In the spring, it will be necessary to loosen the pressure, since the opening for ventilation occurs frequently, which can lead to severe wear of the closing mechanism and seal.

To switch to winter mode, you need to do the following steps:

 1. Check for draft in or out around the perimeter with a lit match - even a slight breeze will deflect the flame.
 2. If there is a draft, it is necessary to open the sash and adjust the locking pins (eccentrics).
 3. There are 3 types of trunnions - oval, round with a slot for a screwdriver or a hexagon.
 4. If the oval trunnions are located vertically and the eccentrics are offset towards the frame, it is necessary to turn them to the middle position with the appropriate tool to increase the clamping force.
 5. Then again it is necessary to check the thrust, if it remains, switch the trunnions (eccentrics) to the winter mode. To do this, turn the oval pins into a horizontal position, and move the eccentrics completely away from the street.
 6. If after checking the thrust remains, you need to replace the seal.
 7. After replacing the seal, check the thrust when adjusting the trunnions or eccentrics in the middle position.

How to tighten hinges on plastic windows

The upper hinge is adjusted using an L-shaped hexagon. On the upper loop there is one adjustment for the horizontal displacement of the upper bar. The displacement adjustment process is carried out with the window open with the short side of the hexagon in the adjustment hole, which is located at the end of the sash. The top offset range is -2 to +3 mm. With a key, rotate the screw a part of a turn and check the ease of closing.

Adjustment of the lower loop is made with the same tool. The difference is that on the lower hinge, in addition to the horizontal displacement of the lower bar, there is a screw for the displacement of the entire sash vertically. Horizontal displacement is done in a similar way to the top loop. Vertical displacement is performed with a half-open window, for which it is necessary to insert the long side of the hexagon vertically from top to bottom into the opening of the canopy with the decorative casing removed. Such a change is possible in the range from -2 to +2 mm.

Setting up plastic windows when shrinking at home

A strong displacement of the load-bearing building elements as a result of shrinkage of the new building can cause a strong departure of the sash from the frame, requiring reinstallation of the plastic window. If the opening is severely skewed, you will have to level it or order a new eurowindow. By internal adjustments of the opening and pressing mechanisms, it is possible to correct the horizontal or vertical displacement within 2-3 mm. To do this, you need a standard set of tools:

 • special hex key 4 mm wide;
 • screwdriver 4 mm;
 • pliers.

How to set the horizontal and vertical axes

To align the sash horizontally or vertically, it is necessary to adjust the plastic window in the canopies. Alignment in the horizontal plane is made by end adjustments on the upper and lower canopy with the window fully open. The hex wrench is inserted with the short side into the hole. When the key is rotated clockwise, the sash is attracted to the canopy, counterclockwise - to the impost. The maximum adjustment range is -2 to +2 mm.

You can adjust the offset in a vertical position on the lower canopy in cases where the sash touches the frame or to change the size of the gaps. This will require a hex key. It is necessary to open the cap on the canopy, insert the hex wrench with the long end down into the upper hole. By turning the bolt clockwise, the sash can be raised, counterclockwise - lowered. The maximum height adjustment range is -2 to +2 mm.

What to do if the plastic window does not close

A sash adjusted to the gaps at the top, bottom and sides may not close in two cases. The first is associated with a broken handle, the second - with the incorrect operation of one of the trunnion-clamp pairs. To check, open the window and, pressing the double opening latch with your left hand, turn the handle down. If she turned to the extreme position, then the problem of closing in one of the trunnion-clamp pairs. You can determine which pair is not working one by one by unscrewing the clamping bars with a Phillips screwdriver.

How to adjust the handle on a plastic window

The device, diagrams and photos of the location of fittings, adjusting bolts, moving parts of the euro-window, troubleshooting methods and prices can be found on the Internet on sites on this topic. The adjustment of the handle consists in its correct installation in accordance with the above list. The opening handle has four positions:

 • down - closed;
 • to the side - open;
 • up - ventilation mode;
 • in the middle position between the top and side - partial ventilation.

Replacing a defective

If your handle is broken, you must:

 • use a screwdriver to unscrew the upper and lower screws (or screws) of the fasteners located perpendicular to the plane of the sash;
 • insert a new handle in the same position in which the faulty one was removed;
 • fasten it with two screws (or screws);
 • return the protective plate to its original position.

If the handle on the window or balcony is loose, you must:

 • slightly pull the top and bottom of the protective plate on the handle and turn it to a horizontal position;
 • screw the handle tightly with a screwdriver;
 • return the protective plate to its original position.

All elements of the canopy and closing of the sash are outside the structure. The main actions in case of contamination of the elements of this mechanism are its cleaning and lubrication. If the window has not been opened for a long time, dried dirt or rust can be removed using a can of universal penetrating lubricant VD-40. After cleaning, washing, it is necessary to lubricate the fittings, adjust it.

Eccentrics are round elements that engage with clamping bars. The axis of their fastening is displaced relative to the center of the circle, therefore, during rotation, the distance from the axis to the point of contact with the clamping bar changes. With an increase in this distance, the pressure of the sash against the frame increases. The rotation of the eccentrics is done using a hexagon key or a screwdriver. The amount of pressure change varies from 2 to 5 mm, depending on the design of the eccentric. It is necessary to adjust the clamping force twice a year when switching from summer to winter mode and vice versa.

What to do if the window handle is stuck

Among the possible breakdowns of the locking mechanism, jamming of the handle may occur. At the same time, it is not worth putting great effort on the handle to open it - the fittings must be protected to extend the service life. Jamming is possible in three situations - the window is open for ventilation, open or closed. If the handle is stuck in the first two cases, it may be skewed when opening or a special blocker may be triggered. If the sash hangs on one lower hinge, the following operations must be performed:

 • turn the knob up;
 • pressing the upper hinge to the frame, set the handle to the right;
 • close the window and turn the handle down;
 • pressing the sash against the frame, gently turn the handle up and open for ventilation.

Operation of the turn blocker can occur as a result of a sharp turn of the handle at a large angle when opening. The lock is released by pressing the unlocking button or by turning the corresponding lever. Its location can be found on the website of the developer of your fittings. If you have difficulty opening, try pressing the sash firmly against the frame and turn the handle.

Tight turning or jamming of the handle with the window closed is possible with shrinkage and strong (more than 2-3 mm) subsidence of the window or doorway. This is an extremely rare and difficult case, which can lead to a bevel of the frame or breakage of the mechanism. Without specialists from a construction company or installers, it will not be possible to solve this problem with simple adjustments. Jamming is possible due to lack of lubrication of the shutter mechanism. To prevent this and increase the service life, it is desirable to carry out maintenance once or twice a year.

Hello dear readers!

We did a general house cleaning.

While the wife was washing the windows, it turned out that the handles were a little loose. Pulling them up is easy if you know how to do it. I have already taught my wife.

Now I gathered my thoughts and decided to write a useful post for you.

I tried to collect all the tips in detailed instructions, in which you will find not only information about setting up handles, but also a lot of other things.

You just have to try them out.

The active use of metal-plastic windows in today's realities is caused by a number of advantages of these structural elements.

And if such indicators of windows as reliability, durability and aesthetics are initially incorporated into their design, then in order to obtain high-quality consumer criteria (heat, noise insulation), it is desirable to carry out maintenance of systems in a timely manner.

Moreover, in order for the adjustment of plastic windows to be done at the highest level with your own hands, it will be enough just to stock up on a minimum set of tools (a set of “star” keys, pliers, a set of hexagons, screwdrivers) and fixtures.

The list of main malfunctions that can be eliminated by the consumer on their own includes the following items:

 • Rubbing the sash window on the frame in the process of its opening - closing;
 • Loose fit of the sash to the base of the window frame;
 • Handle breakage.

Do-it-yourself PVC window adjustment

To begin with, it is desirable to consider in detail the method of adjusting the window. So, if it is necessary to change the location of the sash (for free opening), then it is advisable to perform a series of sequential procedures:

 1. Open window;
 2. Turn the adjusting screw located in the end part of the sash (upper hinge area) 3-5 turns clockwise;
 3. Close a window;
 4. Remove the protection from the bottom loop;
 5. Using a hexagon, turn the lower hinge adjusting screw 3 to 5 turns clockwise;
 6. Check the operation of the window and the absence of rubbing during operation, and if necessary, re-adjust the element.

In a situation where it is required to strengthen the degree of fit of the sash to the base of the frame, proceed as follows. First, for these purposes, a system of eccentrics is used, which are located on the end of the sash from the side where the handle is located.

Useful advice!

When it is required to strengthen the degree of fit of the sash to the base of the frame, an eccentric system is used

Why the eccentrics with the help of pliers or a hexagon must be rearranged to the appropriate position.

In some window models, the designs of the eccentrics are made in such a way that in order to adjust them, it is enough just to pull the eccentric towards you, then make the necessary rotation, and only after that release the eccentric (it will be pressed due to the spring).

In general, experts recommend performing a similar procedure for adjusting eccentrics twice a year (off-season period), increasing or decreasing the degree of pressing.

However, by this method, it is possible to ensure the adjustment of the pressing of the window from the side where the handle is located. When the user needs to increase the pressing of the sash from the side of the canopies, they do it in a different way.

So, if it is necessary to provide a stronger pressing of the sash (from the side of the awnings) of a rotary-type window structure, then use the adjusting screw on the lower hinge.

When it is required to perform a similar procedure for a tilt-and-turn design, it will be necessary to perform additional adjustment of the window sash pressure due to the upper hinge.

For what it is necessary to perform the procedures in the following sequence:

 1. Open the sash;
 2. Turn the sash handle to the "ventilation" position (simulating the closing of the window by pressing the blocker);
 3. To increase the pressure on the sash, turn the adjusting screw on the hinge clockwise, while to loosen the pressure, turn the knob in the opposite direction.

Certain types of window fittings are adjusted using special taps (usually located on the window frame from the side of the handle) that can be adjusted using hex keys.

So, for a stronger pressing of the window sash to the base of the frame, you will need to move the answer outward (toward the street). They also use clamping mechanisms located on the frame from the side of the canopies.

Their adjustment is carried out with a hexagon, while a stronger pressure of the sash to the frame will be provided when the tongue of the mechanism is extended more strongly.

A fairly common defect in a metal-plastic window is the tight rotation of the handle. Often this circumstance is caused by the fact that the fittings do not have sufficient lubrication.

In this case, window repair comes down to banal lubrication of the locking mechanism and all rubbing elements with machine oil or aerosol lubricant (for example, WD-40).

A similar method is used to adjust the doors of balcony blocks.

In a situation where it is necessary to completely replace the handle, you should pull the decorative trim of the handle towards you with your fingers and then turn it 90 º (in order to free access to the screws).

By unscrewing the fixing screws, the handle can be easily removed. And the procedure for fixing a new handle must be performed in reverse order.

It should be noted that the guarantee of long-term and high-quality operation of the window depends on the timely performance of service operations, and even in the absence of visual defects, it is advisable to carry out these procedures at least once a year.

Why should all the main components be lubricated, and the rubber seals should be moistened. Also, a few words must be said about the rules for using windows:

 • Turn the window handle only when the sash is fully closed;
 • Do not allow the presence of foreign objects in the free cavity of the window frame;
 • The operation of windows should be carried out taking into account the performance of all finishing works (slopes).

However, it should be noted that, contrary to the elementary nature of the methods described, troubleshooting and window adjustment should be started only after a detailed acquaintance with the principle of operation of the installation.

Otherwise, the more correct method would be the help of specialists in this field.

For the correct and safe adjustment of plastic windows, you need to know several features of their design in order to avoid any damage.

Next, we will tell you how to solve some of the problems that can arise with metal-plastic windows, as well as share recommendations on how plastic windows should be properly adjusted.

In order to independently adjust the plastic window, you must use a 4-mm hex key, which is popularly called the "four".

Adjustment types

1. Consider first the horizontal adjustment of metal-plastic windows. To properly adjust the window, you must use the top and bottom hinges, which have a hole for a hex key.

By rotating the hex key clockwise, the sash is pulled to the hinge. The bottom of the window opposite the hinge should rise slightly.

2. If the hinge is to be moved away from the sash, the key must be rotated correspondingly counterclockwise, which will cause the bottom of the sash to drop slightly.

The lower hinge is adjusted inside the room when the window is open, and outside when it is closed.

The adjustment process is carried out in the same way in two versions. By adjusting the horizontal plane, the frame can be moved up to 2 millimeters, and the bevel can also be eliminated.

3. Vertical adjustment of the window is carried out at the expense of the lower hinge. The hex key is placed under the cap that covers the loop.

Eliminating the bevel of the frame in the vertical direction is also possible up to 2 millimeters.

4. Adjustment of the opening mode is carried out by eccentrics, which are located along the perimeter of the PVC window. When turning the handle, the eccentrics should go beyond the pressure pads, which are also located along the perimeter of the window.

Turning the eccentric to the right, you can strengthen the window clamps to the frame, while turning it to the left, the clamp will loosen. On the eccentric there is a risk that shows the degree of pressure.

If the risk is directed to the seal, the window is strongly pressed against the frame, but if it is towards the outside, it is weak. In order to rotate the eccentrics, you can use pliers or a wrench.

Sometimes plates are used for clamping, which are located on the window sash.

The appropriate level of pressure between the window and the frame depends on the time of year.

It is quite clear that the pressure should be strong in winter and weakened in summer. You can adjust the clamp in the range of 0.8 millimeters.

5. You can adjust the loop pressure for both loops at once or only one loop. This will depend on what fittings are installed on your window.

If necessary, adjust the lower hinge, first remove the cap, and then rotate the bolt in the desired direction, which is located perpendicular to the window.

6. Only hinged doors can be adjusted to the top hinge. When adjusting the top hinge, the frame must be supported, as it will only be held by the bottom hinge.

Some plastic windows are equipped with a lock that prevents the open window sash from tilting. Blockers are a lever or clip.

In order to tilt the open plastic window, it is necessary to turn the handle to the ventilation mode while pressing the blocker.

When is uPVC window adjustment needed?

With the help of adjustment, many problems of metal-plastic windows can be eliminated:

 • The window sash sagged, causing the sash bottom to touch the plastic frame. Suitable for horizontal or vertical adjustment.
 • Vertical or horizontal displacement of the sash has caused the middle sash to touch the frame. To fix the problem, it is necessary to move the sash evenly to one side.
 • When air enters through the seal, it is necessary to adjust the sash pressure.
 • To adjust the loose handle, turn the plate, which is located at the base, at a right angle and tighten all the screws with a screwdriver. The base of the handle can also be equipped with a ventilation regulation plate - "combs".
 • With the help of engine oil, you can get rid of such a problem as tight turning of the handle. To lubricate the hinges, eccentrics, clamping mechanisms and platforms, you can use any brushes or cotton swabs that are at hand.

When is adjustment required? Here are the most common signs that a window is ripe for adjustment.

 • When opening (closing), the sash clings to the fittings or to the box.
 • There is a noticeable draft from the window.
 • The handle has become loose or vice versa has become very tight.
 • When the window is open, the handle is jammed and the window does not close.

I want to warn you right away that some problems are the result of a violation of manufacturing or installation technology. Unfortunately, not all of them can be corrected by adjustments ...

We will consider the adjustment of balcony doors separately!

Before we start studying the topic “Adjusting plastic window fittings”, let's define the terminology. The fittings consist of several main units, each of which is responsible for its own area.

The part on the sash is commonly called the “Locking Mechanism”, and the parts attached to the frame are called “Answers”.

To work, we need the following:

 • A set of keys - hexagons.
 • A set of nozzles - stars.
 • Spatula for working with double-glazed windows.
 • Putty knife.
 • Rubber mallet.
 • Linings for double-glazed windows of different thicknesses.
 • Screwdrivers and pliers.
 • Lubricant for fittings.
 • Soft brush.

Much of the above may not be useful to you, but if you are going to adjust the fittings of plastic windows, it is advisable to prepare thoroughly.

Before moving on to practical exercises, I will make a small digression.

Note!

DO NOT adjust the fittings of plastic windows yourself in two cases.

First, if the warranty period has not expired. You still don’t know how to get anything, but you will lose the guarantee for sure.

Secondly, if you are not sure of your abilities. In this case, it would be better to turn to professionals.

Well, with those who are used to solving their problems on their own, we move on.

Now let's decide which node is capable of what.

The lower hinge allows you to move the bottom of the sash up - down, left - right and adjust the pressure.

The trunnions of the locking mechanism are responsible for pressing the entire sash.

In some types of fittings, the pressure is regulated by otvetki, on the frame.

The upper part of the tilt-and-turn mechanism, called "scissors", can shift the top of the sash to the left - to the right and work with a clamp.

Now we will take each case and analyze it in detail. Move on.

Let's continue the analysis of the topic How to adjust plastic windows.

What to do if the bottom of the sash on the side of the handle clings to the answer or to the box - the sash sagged. I want to say right away that on large, heavy doors, there MUST be a “microlift”.

This mechanism, at the moment of closing the sash, resting against a special answer, raises the sash by 2-3 mm, thereby relieving the load from the rest of the fittings. For example, it is unacceptable to install a balcony door without a lift!

And so, the sash sagged. This is treated either by lifting the sash upwards, or by retracting the bottom of the sash in the direction of sagging, and the top in the direction of the hinges.

To raise the sash, remove the decorative cap from the bottom hinge, insert the hexagon from above into the hole and tighten the stop screw.

To shift the bottom of the sash, turn the screw on the frame part of the hinge.

The top of the sash can be moved with a screw located in the scissors from the side of the top hinge. To get close to it, you need to open the sash and rotate the screw to the desired position of the sash.

In general, try not to keep the doors open for a very long time, so as not to sag.

 • The handle is loose - we remove the decorative plate under it, turn it 90 * and tighten the two screws. If, on the contrary, the handle began to turn more and more difficult, a crunch is heard in the mechanism, then it's time to make a complete revision of the window fittings.
 • How to adjust plastic windows, if the handle turns further, to the “ventilation” position, the sash falls out and hangs on the scissors, leaning on one lower loop. This means that the blocker did not have time to work.

It is usually located on the locking mechanism in the area of the handle and, with the sash open or tilted for ventilation, is located at an angle to the locking mechanism. In this position, the blocker does not allow turning the handle where it is not necessary.

In our case, to return the sash to its place, you need to move the plate to the sealing rubber with your finger, set the sash to the “just open” position (press the top of the sash from the hinge side) and turn the handle to the desired position.

How to adjust plastic windows if there are drafts.

First of all, carefully inspect the sealing rubber on the sash and frame.

If diaper rash, scuffs and tears are clearly visible, the rubber must be changed. If you decide that the rubber is in order, then you need to increase the pressure of the sash to the frame.

To begin with, check the coincidence of the locking rods (pins) on the sash with the answers on the frame, as in “Adjusting the balcony door”.

On the lower hinge, a screw is responsible for the clamp, located in the body of that part of the hinge that is on the sash. Depending on the brand of fittings, you will need a screwdriver, a hexagon or an asterisk.

But, unfortunately, not all manufacturers install a bottom hinge with pressure adjustment on the windows.

In this case, you will have to adjust the clamp, from the side of the hinges, with “scissors”, “hidden clamp” and a pin on the “middle lock”.

An eccentric screw located on the scissors is responsible for the clamp in the area of the upper loop.

To make it available, do the following:

 1. open the sash
 2. finger press the blocker to the rubber
 3. turn the handle up
 4. and, carefully, we remove the top of the sash from the frame so that the scissors become visible.

The blocker may be of a different design, where the blocking is performed by a movable plate, which is pressed against the frame by the sash.

So, to unlock you need to press the plate.

We insert the hexagon into the head of the eccentric and turn it in the right direction (each brand has its own direction).

Pressing the blocker, we return the sash to its place.

Useful advice!

On the overall doors, from the side of the hinges, as a rule, a hidden clamp is also installed.

It is also regulated (usually with a hexagon) according to the “winter-summer” type.

During rotation, it extends - the pressure plate retracts, thereby changing the clamping force.

If an unregulated one is installed, and you are convinced that it does not work, you need to change it.

Depending on the brand of fittings, this is done either with a hexagon or with pliers. On some trunnions, the eccentric is made in the form of a ring, which must be pulled away from the sash with your fingers and rotated to the desired angle.

There are brands of fittings in which the clamps are commanded by otvetki, I think you can decide. In general, adjusting plastic windows is a very creative process! Especially the first time.

After all the necessary screws have been scrolled, we check the clamp.

This is done as follows: tear off a strip of a palm-width and two palms long from the newspaper, and clamp it between the sash and the frame, where there are no answers. If the strip is easily pulled out - add a clamp.

So check several points from all sides.

Yes, I missed one point. It happens after lifting or tilting the sash, the trunnions begin to cling to the answers or vice versa do not reach them. In this case, the answers must be shifted in the right direction.

We unscrew the self-tapping screw that secures the answer on the frame and, without taking out the answer itself, by lightly tapping with pliers on the answer along the frame, we shift it in the right direction. We twist the self-tapping screw.

And now - the most dangerous type of adjustment of plastic windows. This is an adjustment of the double-glazed window. There is a situation when the sash is raised all the way, and its lower part, from the side of the handle, clings to the frame.

That is, the sag is greater than the power reserve of the adjusting stop in the lower loop. I will say right away that under normal conditions such a case practically does not occur, which means that one of the three points was violated:

 1. Correct assembly.
 2. Correct installation.
 3. Proper operation.

Or maybe all three! But, as they say, "it's too late to drink Borjomi" - we will treat. Another case - the "turning" sash sagged. In order to save money, such sashes are often equipped with NON-ADJUSTABLE fittings.

That is, the usual loops and constipation. Here, adjustment is possible ONLY with double-glazed windows.

So let's get started: using the screw in the bottom hinge, lower the sash as far down as possible.

Carefully remove the glazing beads with a spatula (the sash is closed !!!), holding the double-glazed window (it is better to work together).

We mark the glazing beads “lion”, “right”, “top” and take out the double-glazed window itself. Gently put it on something soft (rug, rug) against the wall, laying several newspapers from the wall, for example.

Then we open the sash and in the very corner from the side of the handle we put gaskets on the frame, so that the sash rises by 5-7 mm when closing. We close the sash, as if pushing (lifting) it onto the gaskets.

If we notice that at the moment of closing the entire sash rises, and not just the desired edge, then in the area of the scissors, on the sash, we insert another one without letting the sash up.

Thus, in the place where the sash was mashed, a gap (reserve) of the order of 5 mm was obtained.

We insert a double-glazed window and fix it tightly on all sides with gaskets, according to technology, helping ourselves with a spatula. Gaskets should be inserted very tightly, but carefully - glass is glass.

We hammer the glazing beads with a rubber mallet, starting with short ones.

We check the operation of the sash by removing the lining from the box. If necessary, we correct the adjustments, achieving normal operation.

All this can be avoided by installing a "microlift" on the sash.

In some types of fittings, a blocker can be adapted to the role of a lift. But only those that have a fairly powerful blocker are suitable.

This is done as follows: the blocker response is installed in such a way that when the sash is closed, the blocker does not just press against the rubber, but, as it were, runs into the response, raising the sash by 2-3 mm.

But you need to verify it very accurately so as not to break the lock. By the way, if you install a microlift on an unregulated sash, you will not need to open it.

It was the adjustment of plastic WINDOWS, but we also have doors ...

We remove the old rubber.

We clean the groove from the remnants of glue and sealant. Now we need to determine what kind of rubber we had.

Leading profile manufacturers mainly use four types of rubber:

 • rehau
 • KBE 228

We determine which one we have. If the seal is not similar to any of these types, we take any with a similar leg size.

If you have a choice, it is better to take German - the service life is almost twice as long.

We insert a new rubber, starting from the top of the window (door).

Try not to stretch the rubber, but rather to pick it up. Be especially careful when inserting the seal in the corners.

Then fill the tail end-to-end with the other end of the seal, smearing the ends with glue.

It will not be superfluous to help one more person here.

Turn the handle to the "open" position, but do not open the sash.

Remove the decorative trim from the top loop.

With a flat screwdriver (knife, chisel, etc.), we pull out the pin of the upper loop, you can not completely, but only to disconnect the loop parts.

We slightly tilt the sash towards ourselves and, lifting it up, remove it from the lower hinge.

We take out the upper loop (scissors) from the groove to make it more convenient to work.

We change the seal, as on the frame.

We assemble the mechanism and put the sash in place. We drive the pin of the upper loop and put on the decor.

We close the sash and check the work, if necessary, adjust the adjustments.

Now manufacturers are offered profiles with already glued rubber. When a window (door) is assembled from such a profile, the rubber in the corners, during welding, is fused.

If in the middle of the profile it is difficult to remove the rubber, but it is possible, then it cannot be pulled out in the corners.

We do so. We tear out all the rubber that lends itself, helping ourselves with a screwdriver or something else.

In the corners, we mill a groove for rubber with a f-4 mm drill or a vertical cutter of the same diameter.

We clean the place of milling with a knife or chisel.

Insert new tires.

Detailed instructions for adjusting plastic windows

Briefly about the general principles of adjusting window sashes

The sashes of almost all modern PVC windows can be adjusted in three planes, thanks to which it is possible to achieve the correct position of the sashes in the frame and to achieve the optimal degree of pressing of the seals along the entire perimeter of the sash.

The ways of adjusting the sash fittings, the appearance of its individual elements and the tool used for adjustment may vary depending on the manufacturer, but in general the general adjustment scheme looks like the one shown in the figures below.

Now let's look at what needs to be done in order to fix the problem in each of the above cases.

When closing, the sash touches the frame from below

In this case, you need to move the sash in the direction of the upper hinge and up. The procedure for this is approximately the following:

 1. We open the sash.
 2. We turn the adjusting screw located near the upper hinge at the end of the sash with a hexagon clockwise by several turns.
 3. We close the sash.
 4. Remove the cap from the bottom loop.
 5. We insert a hexagon into it and make several turns clockwise.
 6. We check the free play of the sash, if necessary, we carry out adjustment until we fix the malfunction.

The sash touches the side of the frame when closing

In this case, you need to move the sash in the direction of the hinges, for this:

If the side of the sash only touches the frame from below, then it will be enough to move the sash towards the lower hinge. This is easily done with the adjustment screw located under the bottom hinge.

In the event that the side of the sash touches the frame along its entire height, it will also be necessary to move the sash in the direction of the upper hinge.

Striker plate wear

To check the strikers, open a window and inspect them. Most often, there is one bar on each side around the perimeter of the window. If wear is noticeable on one of them, this may indicate that there is an uneven fit of the window in the frame.

In order to solve the problem, you need to open the window, remove the plastic plugs from the adjusting bolts (they are located on the lower and upper hinges, on the same side as the sash) and use a hex key (four mm) to loosen the bolts themselves.

After that, adjust the position of the top half of the window. The adjusting screw will help you with this. First you need to adjust everything relative to the frame "left - right", and then go to the bottom screw and start adjusting the movement "up and down".

It is very easy to monitor the accuracy of the adjustment. To do this, you just need to open and close the window until you understand that the sash fits snugly and evenly into the frame.

The sash is not tight enough to the frame

From the side of the handle on the side end of the sash there is a system of eccentrics, with which the pressure density against the sash frame is regulated.

They may have a different appearance depending on the manufacturer, but the principle of operation is the same in all cases.

By rotating the eccentrics with pliers or a hexagon, you can adjust the required degree of pressing the sash to the frame.

If you need to adjust the degree of pressing the window sash to the frame from the side of the hinges, this can be done using the adjusting screw located on the lower hinge.

If this sash is a tilt-and-turn sash, then you can additionally adjust the sash pressure using the top hinge.

To get to the adjusting bolt located on the scissors near the upper hinge, you need to open the sash and then, after pressing the blocker, set the handle to the ventilation mode.

If you need to press the sash against the frame, then you need to rotate the bolt clockwise, respectively, you can loosen the clamp by turning the bolt counterclockwise.

Some types of fittings are regulated exclusively with the help of the answers located on the side of the handle. The position of the strikers is adjustable with a hexagon.

Useful advice!

To increase the pressure of the window sash to the frame, you need to move the bar towards the street.

On the hinge side of the frame there are also clamping mechanisms adjustable with a hexagon. The more you pull out the tongue, the more the sash will be pressed against the frame.

The handle is blocked when the sash is open in the “closed” mode, the window does not close

The handle can only be turned when the sash is closed in order to prevent breakage of the hardware mechanisms. To prevent accidental turning of the handle when the sash is open, special locks are provided located under the handle at the end of the sash.

Depending on the manufacturer, they also come in various types. Before unlocking the handle, you need to press the lock.

The sash is closed, but the window does not close because the handle does not turn

If, after closing the sash, the handle does not turn, this means that the engagement of the blocker with the counter element located on the frame does not work.

This problem can be solved in two ways:

 1. Using the adjusting screw located under the lower hinge, move the sash slightly in the direction of the counterpart of the blocker
 2. Slightly loosening the mount, insert any thin plate of hard material between the counterpart of the blocker and the frame

It happens, it also happens that the plastic window does not close at all (for example, if the window opens in two positions at once). How to be in such a case? Read my article "The plastic window does not close - what should I do?"

Handle broke

In order to replace the plastic window handle, you need to slightly pull the handle cover towards you and turn it 90 degrees.

This usually happens due to insufficient lubrication. To prevent such a situation, it is necessary to lubricate the hardware mechanisms at least once a year. For these purposes, you can use aerosol lubricants or machine oil.

It is worth noting that the control of the technical condition and the lubrication of all mechanisms of window fittings must be carried out even in the absence of visible defects at least once a year.

If you are interested in adjusting plastic windows, it is useful to remember that:

 • it is necessary to periodically check the condition of the rubber seals in order to prevent their wear;
 • if you remove decorative plastic plugs, do it carefully, as they are very fragile; make sure not to deform or crush them during the main work;
 • if your frame or the window opening itself is deformed, then you will not be able to adjust the windows yourself;
 • if you are not sure that you can do everything yourself, it is better to entrust the work to a trusted specialist. So you can be sure that everything is done with high quality and nothing needs to be redone.

I suggest watching a video that clearly shows how to adjust the plastic window with your own hands.
