  • Points on both sides near the wings of the nose will relieve a runny nose and relieve congestion;
  • For colds, it is necessary to massage the point between the eyebrows and near the ear tragus.

Additionally, you need to make sure that the room in which the patient is resting is ventilated, the air temperature does not exceed 22 0 С, the room needs to be wet cleaned daily, linen and clothes should be changed in a timely manner.

The patient is shown an abundant hot drink, vitamin and mineral complexes.

If, after the measures taken, the disease does not go away, there is a deterioration in the condition, you must seek medical help. The doctor will give advice on what drugs and how to take to cure a cold.

"Oh, this cold!"- sigh the heroes of popular television advertising, and we sincerely sympathize with them. The cold itself is not so dangerous, but it causes a lot of unpleasant sensations.

In addition, colds are fraught with serious complications.

If you are cold and feel unwell, to prevent a cold, dissolve a handful of sea salt in a basin (the water must be very hot) and warm your legs thoroughly. The duration of the bath is 10-12 minutes. Then the feet must be rinsed, wiped dry and put on woolen socks.

And if you can't take a foot bath, put crystals of sea salt on your tongue and dissolve them. Just do not forget: on the packaging of sea salt that we use inside, there must be a note: "food" or "refined".

"I think I caught a cold"

Polyclinics are filled with patients, and doctors begin to habitually display "ARI" on their patient cards.

Without waiting for developmentdisease ...

If you happen to freeze while waiting for public transport, after returning home or coming to work, perform an acupressure. This should be done as follows: with the tips of the index and middle fingers, make circular presses at the junction of the clavicles, at the place of pulsation of the carotid artery, in the region of the seventh cervical vertebra, at the wings of the nose and between the eyebrows. Use the thumb of one hand to massage the junction of the index and thumb of the other. Pressing is carried out until it hurts, 6-8 times in each zone, every two hours. At home, you need to get under a hot shower and rub yourself well with a hard washcloth, this is a massage of many points. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to be in time with the prevention of the disease. Signs of a real cold are beginning to appear. Most people are well aware of them: general malaise, weakness and fever, muscle and headaches, runny nose and cough. If you feel these symptoms, you should not immediately pounce on antibiotics. It is better not to poison your body with chemicals, but to remember the recipes for home medicine, which are not inferior in effectiveness to pharmaceuticals, and sometimes even surpass them. It is only necessary to remember that if the treatment with home remedies did not lead to an improvement in the condition within 3-4 days, the help of a medical specialist is required. And even more so, you should turn to him with the appearance of hemoptysis, shortness of breath or choking, shortness of breath, wheezing, pain and burning sensation in the chest, the appearance of purulent sputum when coughing. These are signs that the case is more serious than a cold. Well, and if it comes about the common cold, then here's a choice of several fairly simple and effective home remedies to get rid of it.

Inhalation

They can be used already at the very first signs of the disease. Any large saucepan or even a ladle will do. It is fine if you have a warm-humid inhaler at home. This will avoid possible burns of the nasopharynx at a water temperature of 80-100 ° C; the steam at the outlet of the warm-humid inhaler heats up only to 38 ° C. For inhalation, the most different compositions: table salt (preferably not "Extra"), baking soda, mineral waters, oils - eucalyptus, menthol, infusions from various collections of herbs and plants, and others. When using oils: dosage - 2-5 drops per 250 ml of boiling water. It must be remembered: inhalations are carried out within 15 minutes not less than half an hour after eating and physical work. During this procedure, you should not be distracted (talking or reading). Clothing should not constrain breathing, but it itself should be calm, not frequent, of medium depth, so as not to cause a cough. After inhaling for an hour, try not to strain your voices. And one more thing: smoking reduces the effect of inhalation to almost nothing.

Thermal treatments

They have a good effect on a cold organism. True, here it is a hundred to remind that you need to treat them with caution, especially for elderly people and those suffering from diseases of the cardiovascular system. Traditional healers advise to soak a woolen cloth with vinegar, olive oil and camphor for colds and apply it to the chest at night.

Behind, on the neck, they put a compress of grated horseradish. An old way of treating a cold is to put mustard plasters on the heels of both feet and bandage them with flannel. You can make it easier: pour mustard powder into woolen socks. In any case, keep the mustard on your feet as long as possible (usually 1-2 hours). And then walk quickly around the room for a while. This is best done before bed — the runny nose usually stops before dawn. If you feel pain when swallowing, it is recommended to tie a woolen scarf around your neck or apply a warming compress on it: dip a large piece of gauze or other cotton cloth in heated sunflower oil and apply it to the sore spot. Put waxed paper on top (polyethylene can be used) and wrap your neck with a bandage or scarf. To avoid burns, keep the compress for no more than 3-4 hours.

For internal use

Before you start taking home remedies, you need to make your diet correct and healthy. It must be balanced in such a way that the bulk of the food is made up of plant-based dairy products, easily digestible and rich in vitamins. Especially useful is the introduction of vitamin C into the body - one of the strongest anti-inflammatory drugs. The daily rate of ascorbic acid in the acute period of the course of the disease can reach 1 gram.

The most vitamin C-rich berries are rose hips and black currants. The broth of rose hips infused for 10-12 hours (1 tablespoon per 200 ml of boiling water) contains the daily amount of vitamin. In black currant, it is abundant in both fruits and leaves. Therefore, you can use both jam and berries - freshly frozen or pureed with sugar - and tea made from fresh or dry leaves. If you have neither rose hips nor black currants at home, they will be replaced by lemon in any quantity. (By the way, a very effective - albeit not pleasantly pleasant remedy - is to suck in a few drops of lemon juice with your nose and lie down for a while).

Lemon is consumed with zest and rind. Raisins and grape juice are useful, especially in the cold season, since its constant use can stop the development of colds. Well, the most affordable remedy is, of course, carrots. Vitamin A, contained in excess in this vegetable, has great healing power. If a rise in temperature occurs during a cold, first of all, it is recommended to drink plenty of water with a good detoxification effect. On such days, you need to consume up to 2.5-3 liters of liquid per day. A warm drink with the addition of cranberries, lemon, lingonberries, which have a slight diuretic effect, will allow you to remove the waste products of pathogenic microbes from the body. Antipyretic and diaphoretic effects are possessed by raspberries, chamomile and linden. It is both tasty and healthy to add raspberry jam to tea.

Medicinal properties are inherent not only in berries, but also in fresh or dried leaves of a bush, a decoction of which (1 teaspoon per glass of water) is used to gargle. Dry chamomile flowers are brewed with boiling water and, after infusion, they are drunk for half an hour like tea - half a glass 2-3 times a day. Linden color is used like this: 1-2 teaspoons are brewed with a glass of boiling water and drunk hot overnight right in bed. The infusion can also be made from black elderberry: pour 200 ml of boiling water over one tablespoon of dried flowers and insist. Take two tablespoons 6 times a day.

Intimate touching and caressing, Watt believes, will help relieve the stressful effects of the flu, and the patient will immediately feel better. If this method of treatment seems strange to you, keep in mind -1 intimacy leads to the release of a large amount of endorphins in the brain. These are natural pain relievers, chemically similar to morphine, their effect helps lovers to feel peace and happiness. This is also the opinion of other specialists: psychiatrists and general practitioners. Margaret Lytton, a family physician based in Philadelphia, confirms: "Intimate touch creates feelings of warmth, security, comfort, comfort, relaxation, and reduced stress caused by the flu."

Milk treatment

Traditional medicine has become very popular in our time. Various folk remedies, herbalists, and medicinal people are published. People began to trust folk remedies and resort to drugs less and less. This can be explained by the effectiveness and safety of folk remedies.

Let's start with sore throat. What kind of disease is this and how can one be cured of it without resorting to the help of modern medicine?

Angina is an infectious disease. It occurs mainly "in children and young people, less often in people over 50 years old. Sore throat begins suddenly. At first there is an unpleasant sensation in the throat. The throat begins to sore, a high temperature rises: on the first day - up to 38 - 39 ° С. , general weakness, chills, muscle and joint pain. Gradually, the pain in the throat intensifies, especially when swallowing, the voice loses its sonority, insomnia appears, and appetite disappears. In severe cases, there is a darkening of consciousness and even delirium.

If you or your loved ones are sick with angina, you should consult a doctor who will prescribe appropriate treatment. In no case should the patient tolerate sore throat on the legs - this can lead to serious complications. The throat should be rinsed with mild disinfectant solutions, streptocide should be used inside, and antibiotics should be used for headaches. But among the people there is a more effective method of treating angina - milk. Drinking milk will not make you feel worse, but on the contrary, you will immediately feel relief, as warm milk softens your throat.

Take a glass of fresh milk, heat it up. Milk should be warm (not hot!). Add 1 tbsp to it. l. honey, stir until completely dissolved and let the patient drink. Milk should be drunk immediately. The drink should be taken three times a day (in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening, before bedtime - this will relieve the patient's condition. You can drink it every time you have a sore throat).

You can use butter instead of honey. Melt it and add it to the milk. For 1 glass of warm milk - 1 tbsp. l. melted butter... Mix everything and give to the patient three times a day after each meal. You can add both honey and melted butter to the milk at once. This is not a very tasty drink, especially children do not like it, but effective. You will immediately feel an improvement in your well-being.

With angina, it is useful to consume mineral water with milk. To do this, place open mineral water in a warm place so that all gases escape from it. Inflammation of the lungs occurs in two forms - transient and protracted inflammation. A transient inflammation always begins with chills and high fever. A dry cough appears. Kerosene treatment

Influenza, Spanish flu, Asian flu, whatever the flu outbreak is called, the essence remains unchanged. This is one of the most dangerous infectious diseases, affecting up to 10% of the world's population every year. In Southeast Asia, there are so-called natural foci of influenza, from where, with modern means of communication, the causative agents of influenza epidemics are rapidly spreading. But now this infection is already constantly circulating, sometimes covering the whole world, that is, turning into a pandemic.

The "season" of influenza comes as if on schedule, usually with the November colds and lasts until March. The symptoms are well known to all. The temperature suddenly rises sharply, chills appear, a runny nose, hoarseness, dry cough, pain when swallowing and redness of the eyes are gradually added to the headache, aching joints, feeling of weakness. Weakness, headache, and fear of bright light may persist 3-5 days after the temperature has dropped. The cough can last 10 days or more, and changes in the airways will finally disappear only after 6-8 weeks.

Sometimes a second wave of the disease occurs with a repeated sharp jump in temperature, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea (especially in children). The virus multiplies in the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract, damaging it and contributing to the development of a secondary bacterial infection, is carried with blood into the heart, nervous and muscular system organism. Therefore, the flu is extremely dangerous due to complications - bronchitis, pneumonia, meningitis, sciatica, kidney inflammation. Complications for the most part occur in people suffering from chronic diseases of the respiratory system, cardiovascular system and diabetes. With bacterial pneumonia, the lungs' ability to eliminate and control the growth of bacteria in the airways is impaired. In addition to heart disease and other chronicles, the risk group includes young children and the elderly.

Basically, there are three types of viruses - A, B and C, but the fight against influenza is difficult due to their unique ability to constantly change. Experts predict that two new stamps of influenza viruses will circulate in Russia - A (Fujian) and B (Shanghai).

Vaccination directed against one or three typical types of influenza, of course, does not always prevent the disease, but it alleviates it and saves the situation in many ways, protecting the vaccinated person from reinfection with this strain of the virus.

In our country, local health authorities are engaged in vaccination, but money is in the local

the budget, as a rule, is not enough. A trip to the pharmacy will be of little comfort. There are very few drugs that purposefully target influenza pathogens: remantadine, arbidol, tamiflu, cycloferon and children's algirem. Moreover, helping to reduce temperature and facilitate breathing, rimantadine, for example, can only protect against influenza A and at the same time cause insomnia, nervousness and other side effects that are extremely undesirable for elderly people with brain and kidney diseases.

And here ordinary kerosene and the mixtures in which it is included will come to the rescue. Let me remind you once again - for internal use, only refined kerosene can be used, for external use - household is allowed.

Tea treatment

A person who has a cold or flu has a decreased appetite, a thirst arises, which needs not only to be quenched, but to be quenched for the benefit of the patient. Viral intoxication, high temperature require quality drinking. What you offer to the patient is up to you. It is important to remember that the total amount of liquid you drink should be 2-3 liters per day.

The most popular and equally useful drink for flu and colds is tea. It is known that with influenza, the virus infects the nerves and blood vessels.

Once in the bloodstream, viruses cause chills, fever, headache, and in some cases, dizziness and confusion. Small vessels (capillaries) are especially affected by the toxic factor of the influenza virus. Their walls become brittle and porous, which creates the preconditions for the occurrence of hemorrhages, especially in hypertensive patients. Hemorrhages can occur in different organs rich in capillary networks. It is especially dangerous if they arise in the brain, liver, retina, heart. In addition, red blood cells - erythrocytes - are affected by the flu. They lose the ability to carry oxygen to the tissues, and in this regard, there are symptoms of the disease on the part of the brain, which is especially sensitive to oxygen starvation, which is manifested by a feeling of suffocation and dizziness.

Tea with lemon gives a more pronounced therapeutic effect, since it helps to "neutralize" viruses in the throat, relieves unpleasant perspiration and dry cough. With the flu, the English version of tea is also appropriate - with milk. You can add a little "Borjomi" to this drink or a pinch of baking soda, honey or raspberries mashed with sugar. The result is an anti-flu cocktail. Drink it hot, several times a day and before bed.

Try for a cold tea with black pepper. Rinse the kettle with boiling water, put 1 teaspoon of tea and a pinch of black pepper into it, pour a glass of boiling water, let it brew. Drink for colds 2-3 times a day and at night.

They are very popular with the flu herbal and vitamin teas. Considering that many plants have antiviral effects and increase immunity, you can use teas to speed up recovery, prevent complications, and in some cases prevent illness. Try rosehip tea with honey.

The multivitamin extract of rosehip, which has disinfecting properties, acts as a diaphoretic, increases the body's resistance to infection and accelerates recovery. In the first days of the disease, prepare an infusion from a large dose (5-7 tablespoons of chopped fruits per 1 liter of boiling water, leave for 4-6 hours in a thermos) and drink during the day.

In the following days, prepare the infusion from 2-3 tablespoons of fruits per 1 liter of boiling water. Remember that the infusion of crushed rose hips must be filtered through 4-6 layers of gauze. It must also be borne in mind that rosehip preparations are not prescribed for patients with thrombophlebitis and with increased blood clotting.

Herbal teas containing essential plants are effective and popular in everyday practice. Leaf tea can be added to this drink if desired (1: 1).

We offer several recipes for influenza tea, which you can brew at home if necessary.

Choose the right tea composition and prepare it in paper bags in single or daily doses. The latter, apparently, are more convenient and practical, especially during an epidemic, when the whole family needs to be watered.

The temperature of the medicinal tea taken should be 37-38 ° C, which is well accepted by the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and stomach, and promotes better assimilation of active biological compounds from plants.

Natural orange juice diluted in half with tea or mineral water.

You can prepare vegetable and fruit juices at home. It is easy to make juice from grapefruit or lemon, be sure to dilute the latter with water or tea and sweeten it with honey. A good antipyretic agent is red beet juice or carrot juice. You can add 1/4 part of cabbage juice to these juices. It contains natural lysozyme and increases the body's resistance.

All freshly made juices contain phytoncides, and this is their strength. Phytoncides (biologically active substances formed by plants) kill or inhibit the growth and development of microorganisms and thus act prophylactically for secondary (bacterial) complications.

Traditional medicine for flu and colds offers many recipes for herbal and berry teas.

There is a rich assortment of plants that can be used to make such teas: strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, linden, blackberry, black elderberry, peppermint, black currant leaves, leaves walnut, rose hips, chamomile and etc.

The well-known "tea" plant is common strawberries, whose leaves are harvested in early spring. They can be dried for future use as well as fermented like tea leaves. The leaves are allowed to fade, then rolled out with a roller, sprinkled with water, wrapped in a clean cloth and left for three days in a warm room. The leaves "wander" and smell good. Then they are quickly dried and placed in iron boxes. Strawberry leaf tea is delicate, tasty, aromatic and healthy.

Tea from the leaves is useful raspberries, which contain tannins, malic, salicylic, citric, tartaric, formic acids, and essential oil.

Tea made from flowers is pleasant and useful linden. The harvested linden flowers are quickly dried to maintain their natural appearance.

Fruit and leaf tea is tasty and healthy blueberries, from dried apple peel.

Tea can be flavored chamomile flowers, peppermint, walnut leaves, orange, tangerine peels.

We present recipes for teas with a vitaminizing property of a general tonic effect.

Colds in children

Signs colds known to all. In children, just like in adults, these diseases are accompanied by sneezing, mucous nasal discharge, difficulty in nasal breathing, coughing, and the temperature rarely rises.

The baby's nasal passages should be cleaned with cotton swabs moistened with breast milk or plain boiled water. Treatment is carried out strictly according to the doctor's recommendations. The common cold is an insidious ailment. If you do not start to fight it in time, then, dragging on, the disease can lead to complications and turn into bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.

If a cold is accompanied by a rise in high temperature, then the picture of the disease changes. The child is weak, sleeps a lot, sleep is superficial, anxious, cheeks are red, eyes are dull, there is no appetite or it is sharply reduced. High fever can cause vomiting. Sometimes the fever can last for several days, and in some cases everything returns to normal the very next day. In any case, a doctor or an ambulance must be called. Before the arrival of specialists, it is necessary to give the baby a child antipyretic agent in the form of a syrup or put up candles.

Everything ARVI are transmitted by airborne droplets when sneezing, talking, coughing. Therefore, at the peak of morbidity, all family members need to take preventive measures: limit contact with patients, lubricate the nasal passages with hydrochloric ointment and wear masks during illness. The mask can be purchased at any pharmacy.

All ARVIs begin with a rise in temperature. The baby has headaches, lethargy, he quickly falls asleep, but his sleep is disturbed, his nose is stuffy, the child eats little and reluctantly. Then mucous discharge from the nose appears, sneezing, a dry cough joins, turning into a wet one, the voice becomes hoarse. In severe cases, breathing is difficult, especially inhalation, shortness of breath appears, the skin around the nose and mouth, and the fingers and toes become bluish. The rise in temperature is often accompanied by vomiting, and loose stools may appear.

Flu is transmitted by airborne droplets, so it is necessary to strictly observe all measures of its prevention. The disease begins with a sharp rise in temperature to high numbers. The child may develop convulsions, vomiting, and a painful reaction to light. Then there is nasal congestion, dryness, sore throat, cough and hoarseness.

Before the doctor arrives, the mother should give the baby a child antipyretic agent, put him in the crib, give him boiled water and herbal decoctions with anti-inflammatory, soothing and antipyretic effects. At high temperatures, the child's body is wiped with a napkin dipped in a weakly acidic vinegar solution or diluted vodka. Treatment is prescribed only by a doctor, because very often an incorrectly treated flu gives complications to all organs.

Cold viruses and bacteria that cause complications. Your child is likely to have ten times more colds than all other illnesses combined. Currently, we only partially understand the nature of colds. The common cold is caused by filterable viruses. These microorganisms are so small that they are not trapped by an unglazed porcelain filter and cannot be seen with a regular microscope. These viruses are thought to cause a mild cold with clear nasal discharge and a slight scratching sensation in the throat. If there are no complications, the disease ends in three days. But sometimes it happens differently. The cold virus lowers the resistance of the nose and throat, so other microorganisms such as streptococci, pneumococci and influenza bacteria can enter, causing more serious consequences. This is called "secondary intrusion." Such bacteria usually live in the throat of a healthy person in winter and spring, but are not harmful because they are held back by the body's resistance. It is only after the viruses of the common cold have weakened this resistance that other bacteria have the opportunity to multiply and spread, causing bronchitis, pneumonia, ear inflammation, and sinusitis. That is why you need to take special care of a child who has just suffered a cold.

The most important way to prevent a cold is to stay away from the person who has it.

Resistance to colds.

Many believe they are more prone to colds when they are tired or cold, but this has never been proven. A person is less likely to get sick if he has increased his resistance by going out regularly in cold weather. A bank employee gets cold more easily on the street than a lumberjack. Therefore, children of all ages should spend several hours outdoors in winter and sleep in cool rooms. Therefore, you should not dress children too warmly for a walk or cover them too warmly in bed.

In homes and apartments that are too warm and dry in winter, the nose and throat dry out, and this can weaken the resistance to pathogenic bacteria. If the air in an apartment is heated above 23-25 degrees, it becomes dry. Many people try to humidify it by placing containers of water on radiators, but this is completely useless. The correct way to keep the air moist in winter is to keep the air temperature no higher than 21 degrees (preferably 20 degrees); then you don't have to worry about humidity. Buy a reliable room thermometer (check if it reads correctly by comparing with several others: if the error is more than one and a half degrees, it is useless). Train yourself to look at the thermometer several times a day. Whenever the temperature rises above 20 degrees, turn off the heaters. At first it may seem troublesome to you, but after living for several weeks at temperatures below 21 degrees, you will get used to it, and it will be unpleasant for you in a hot room.

Does Diet Affect Cold Resistance? Naturally, every child should receive a balanced diet. But there is no evidence that a child eating a reasonably balanced diet will catch a cold if they eat a little more of one species and a little less of the other.

How do vitamins affect? Indeed, a person who receives a catastrophically small amount of vitamin A in food is more susceptible to colds and other infections. But this danger does not threaten children, who usually get enough vitamin A in milk, butter, eggs and vegetables.

It is believed that a child with rickets (due to low amounts of vitamin D) is more susceptible to complications from a cold, such as bronchitis. But if the child does not have rickets and he receives a sufficient amount of vitamin D, there is no reason to believe that he will be sick less often if he will be additionally given vitamin D. The diet should have a sufficient amount of vitamin C.

Influence of age on colds. Children between two and six years of age have more colds, stay sick longer, and have more complications (on average seven times a year in northern US cities, more often if the family has children attending kindergarten or school). After six years, the frequency and severity of colds decreases. At nine years old, a child falls ill half as often as at six, and at twelve - half as often as at nine. For the parents of a small child who always walks with a cold, this, of course, is little consolation.

Psychological factor for colds. Psychologists are sure that some Children and adults are more prone to colds when they are stressed or very upset. I imagine a six-year-old boy who is anxious about his lessons because he is lagging behind in reading. For several months, he starts coughing every Monday morning. You might think that he is pretending. But the matter is not so simple. He's not having a dry, feigned cough. No, a real deep chest cough. During the week, the cough subsides and completely disappears by Friday, only to return on Sunday night or Monday morning. There is nothing mysterious about this. We know that when a person is nervous, his hands become cold and damp; the athlete may have stomach upset before the decisive competition. It is likely that the nervous system is interfering with the flow of air in the nose and throat so that bacteria can multiply there.

Children get infected from each other. There is one more factor, which affects the incidence of a child's illness. This is the number of children he plays with, especially outside the family. Average an only child living on an isolated farm has fewer colds because it gets fewer of the bacteria that cause colds

diseases. On the other side, average a child attending a kindergarten or school gets sick much more often, although these childcare institutions always try to immediately isolate sick children. Usually, the patient begins to spread the infection the day before he shows outward signs of the disease. Sometimes he can spread the disease without showing any symptoms. There are some lucky children who rarely catch colds, although everyone around them has colds.

Can whether to warn spread of infection in the family. Most of the colds in the family are brought in by young children, who themselves suffer from a mild form of cold. This is especially true for small apartments, where everyone uses the same rooms. Bacteria for colds and other illnesses not only fly out when you cough and sneeze; a large number of them are constantly in the air. Studies have shown that a gauze mask that covers the mouth and nose allows most bacteria to pass through. This means that there is little sense in the mother wearing a mask or unsuccessfully trying to get the children to do it. Newborns become infected less often, but still, especially if the mother has a sore throat, it is better for her not to breathe into the baby's face, not cough or sneeze in his direction, wash hands with soap and water before taking what gets into the baby's mouth - a spoon , a pacifier, a ring for teeth, food that the baby will eat with his fingers - to prevent the transmission of large numbers of bacteria.

In special circumstances, it is worth taking other measures to protect a sick or susceptible child from infection. If the apartment is large enough, the child should be placed in a separate room with closed door, and should be taken care of by someone who has no symptoms of the disease. It is preferable that this adult who communicates with the rest of the family does not sleep in the child's room and is not there unnecessarily.

If you suspect that your guest or friend has a cold or other illness, be firm and do not let him into the apartment where the child is, or do not let him near the stroller on the street. Say that the doctor told you to keep colds away from your child.

What to do with chronic rhinitis and sinusitis? If a person has these diseases lasting more than two weeks, he can no longer be isolated from the child. But I still advise you to follow the rest of the precautions: wash your hands, turn your face away from the child.

Radiography of patients with chronic cough. Any family member with a chronic cough should be examined by a doctor and x-rays should be taken to rule out the possibility of tuberculosis. This is especially important if there is a small child in the house or his appearance is expected. If you have a small child and you hire a nanny or housekeeper, ask her to have an X-ray before she lives in your house.

Colds in newborns. If your child is under one year old, it is very likely that it will be mild. First he will start sneezing; the nose may be clogged or discharge, thin or thick, may begin. The child may cough a little. He most likely will not have a temperature. When your nose gurgles, you'll want to clean it. But this does not seem to bother the child. On the other hand, if the baby's nose is tightly clogged, he becomes anxious. Tries to close his mouth and is angry that he cannot breathe. This is especially troubling him when he eats from the breast or from the nipple, so sometimes he may even refuse to eat.

Mucus from the nose can be pumped out with a small rubber syringe with a soft rubber tip. Squeeze the pear, insert the tip into the nose and release the pear.

The extra moisture in the room air helps prevent mucus from clogging up the nose. If the nose is severely clogged, your doctor may prescribe drops to be put into the nose before feeding. In other respects, the child does not lose his appetite. Colds usually go away within a week. However, in some cases, a cold in an infant can last for a very long time, remaining weak.

Of course, a newborn can also catch a bad cold. He may have bronchitis and other complications, but these are much less likely in the first year of life than later. If a child coughs frequently, if he has a deep chest or barking and hoarse cough, he should be examined by a doctor, even if there is no fever. The same applies to a child if he looks like with a cold. In other words, the child may be sick and have a normal temperature.

Colds and fever after a year. In some children, after a year, colds are as mild, without fever and complications, as in newborns. Much more often, after a year or two, colds and throat infections go away differently. Here's a typical story. A two-year-old child is quite healthy in the morning. By lunchtime, he seems tired, and his appetite is worse than usual. When he wakes up from a nap, he starts to act up, and his mother notices that he is flushed. She measures the child's temperature - 39. By the time the doctor arrives, the temperature is already 40. The child's cheeks are burning, his eyes are dull, but otherwise he does not seem particularly ill. He may skip dinner altogether or eat well. He has no symptoms of a cold, and the doctor found nothing special. The throat may have reddened a little. The next day, the temperature will drop, but a runny nose will begin. The child may occasionally cough. From this point on, the usual mild cold begins, which will last from two days to two weeks.

There are several variations on this typical story. Sometimes, when the temperature rises, the child vomits. This happens especially often when the mother is unreasonably trying to force the child to eat dinner that he does not want (always take the child's word when he loses his appetite). Sometimes the temperature initially lasts for several days, and only then other symptoms of a cold appear. One of the reasons for the absence of a runny nose in the early days is that the temperature dries out the nose. Sometimes the temperature lasts a day or two and subsides, but there is no runny nose or cough. In this case, the doctor may call the illness flu or influenza. These terms are commonly used to refer to infections that do not have specific symptoms (such as a runny nose or diarrhea), but only general(high fever and general malaise). You suspect that this one-day temperature is a cold that has not developed: in the first day or two after the temperature drops, the child seems completely healthy, but then, when he is released outside in cold weather, he starts having a runny nose and coughing.

I especially emphasize the fact that in children over a year old, colds usually begin with a high fever, so that you do not worry when this happens. Of course, you should always consult a doctor in this case, because a high temperature can mean another, more serious illness.

When a child is five or six years old, he may have a cold again without a high fever.

The temperature during the period when the cold passes has a completely different meaning than the temperature on the first day. It usually means that the disease has spread to other organs or has intensified. It doesn't have to be serious or alarming. This only means that the child must be examined by a doctor again to make sure that his ears, bronchi and urinary system are still healthy.

Baby care

Doctor call. When your child has a cold for the first time, you need to call the doctor. The doctor will decide whether he should visit you and determine the treatment needed. It is not necessary to call the doctor the next time the child has a cold, but if unusual symptoms appear, if the temperature exceeds 38 degrees, or if the cold is worse than usual, you should see the doctor again. (If at night you find that your child is 38, you don't have to call right away. Call in the morning.)

Keep the baby warm. Cold aggravates colds. Therefore, it is usually recommended to keep the child at home and protect it from drafts until the cold passes. In warm weather, this is not so necessary, but it is still reasonable, especially with a small child. The wind cools one part of the body more than others, and this uneven distribution of heat contributes to the increase of colds.

The mother usually wants the child to start walking as soon as possible, and the doctor hears the same thing many times over the winter. Mother says; “He felt much better and yesterday was a beautiful day, so I decided it was good for him to take a walk. But in the evening he began to cough more violently and complains of pain in his ears. " There is no evidence that sunshine helps cure a cold, but there is a lot of evidence that cold is harmful.

Many children are not kept at home during colds, and nothing serious seems to be happening to them. But this is not the case in all cases. The doctor deals with more

serious cases. That's probably why he's so careful. It is more prudent to hold a small susceptible child at home for one or two days after the disappearance of the symptoms of a cold, then release it to a place protected from the wind for 20-30 minutes. If after the first day the cold does not return, the next day let him go for a walk at his usual time. If the stuffiness in his room worries you, leave open door into the corridor or ventilate the room by opening the windows for a few minutes.

In a hot room, the air should be humid. The doctor often recommends humidifying the room during a cold. It counteracts dryness and reduces inflammation of the nose and throat. This remedy is especially valuable for dry coughs and cereals. This is not necessary in warm weather when the heating is off.

There are several ways to increase the humidity in the room. You can buy an electric humidifier at a pharmacy. Buy a humidifier big size, which holds several liters of water and evaporates at least half a liter per hour. (A small humidifier does not produce enough water vapor to humidify an entire room. In this case, the patient must breathe over the humidifier, and children cannot.) Some humidifiers are designed to shut off when water is low. This provides additional security. The humidifier should be positioned in such a place that a child cannot reach it or pull on the electrical cord.

If you can't get a humidifier, boil water in a saucepan on an electric stove. The pot must be wide enough so that the bottom covers the entire surface of the tile (in this case, all the heat will go to the formation of steam). A warning: boiling water should be in a place where the child cannot reach it and cannot overturn it. It is unsafe to use this method if the child can get out of the crib, and you are not in the room constantly. Or the child must be big enough and responsible. Do not leave the tiles on overnight. These tiles are the cause of fires.

Another method of increasing the humidity in the room is to cover the radiator with a damp bath towel. Every 20 minutes, the towel should be dipped in water, or both ends of the towel should be kept in water at all times. Place one bowl of water on the radiator, the other - on the floor, under the radiator. Dip one end of the towel into the upper basin, the other into the lower one. Spread the towel as wide as possible over the radiator. Press down on the top end of the towel with two bricks or pin.

You can humidify the room by hanging a wet sheet on a string, but then the water will drip onto the floor.

Nasal drops. The doctor may prescribe nasal drops. They generally come in two varieties. One drop is a mild antiseptic that kills bacteria. Their usefulness is limited because they only act on bacteria on the surface. Another type is drops, which constrict the tissues of the nose and the blood vessels in the nose. This makes it easier for air to enter and allows mucus to escape. The main disadvantage of these drops is that after tissue contraction, a reaction occurs, and they expand even more. The nose becomes even more clogged, and if these drops are used frequently, it can irritate the sensitive membranes. In three situations, drops of the second type, resulting in tissue constriction, are useful. Firstly, when a child has a badly clogged nose, and this worries him. The child suffocates while eating and cannot sleep well (this situation can be relieved by pumping mucus from the nose with a soft syringe). Secondly, in the later stages of severe rhinitis or sinusitis, when the nose is filled with thick yellow discharge that does not come out on its own. Third, for an ear infection, the doctor needs to open the Eustachian tube that connects the ear to the throat.

Nasal drops are beneficial when they enter the inner and upper parts of the nose. Suck mucus from the front of your nose with an air syringe. Then place the child on his back on the bed and tilt his head back. Drop the medicine and hold the child in this position for at least half a minute so that the drops penetrate deep and up.

Nasal drops should be used only on the recommendation of a doctor and no more than 4 hours later. Do not use them for more than a week unless suggested by your doctor. The disadvantage of nasal drops is that many young children will not allow them to be instilled. Only in a few situations is it worth insisting on this, at the risk of upsetting the child.

There are a number of ointments you can rub on your chest. The idea is to stimulate the skin of the chest or to clear the nose with aromatic oils that rise up from the chest to relieve coughs. There is no evidence that such treatments are beneficial, but if you think they are helping, there is no harm in using them.

Medicines from to ashlya. No cough suppressant cures a cold in the sense that it kills bacteria. It only makes it easier for air to pass through the windpipe so that the cough is relieved, or mucus is removed. A person who has an inflamed windpipe or bronchi should cough from time to time to remove mucus and pus. The doctor prescribes medicine so that the cough is not frequent, does not tire, does not interfere with sleep and does not irritate the throat. Any child or adult who has a severe and frequent cough should be supervised by a doctor, and only the doctor decides which medication to use.

How to talk to your doctor about your child's cold

When talking to your doctor on the phone or in his office, keep the following information about your child's illness ready:

When did the cold start?

What is its course? Does the condition improve, get worse, or remain unchanged?

Dr. Bill's advice

Cheerful baby + clear nasal discharge = no cause for concern.

More and more sad child + more and more thick nasal discharge (snot) = time to go to the doctor.

. Never do not conclude that the child's condition is not getting worse without a doctor.

How strongly does the disease affect the child's sleep, behavior and appetite?

What is nasal discharge? Are they transparent and liquid, or are they thick, yellow, green and viscous?

Are there other signs and symptoms, such as fever, eye discharge, cough, ear pain, pallor, lethargy, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, rash, uncontrollable vomiting, or drowsiness?

Finally, be sure to say how sick you think your child is and how worried you are. Doctors, especially pediatricians, treat parents with strong intuition as helpers in diagnosing and treating a sick child. If during the examination you comment on the disease, this will help the doctor to make the correct diagnosis. Sometimes it happens that the child revives and becomes cheerful only during the five-minute visit to the doctor, and before and after he feels very bad; in this case, your doctor may not see how sick the child really is. Your words will help.

Choosing cold medicines for children

How do you explain the word "confusion"? This is when you stand in front of the shelf in front of the shelf with the inscription "for coughs and colds". While all of these drugs scream victory over nasal discharge (just look at their names, "anti-edematous" and "antihistamines"), it is noteworthy that none of them has been proven to be effective in children. In fact, follow-up studies of infants and toddlers have shown that there is not much difference whether you give an oral anti-edema-antihistamine combination, put salt water in your nose, or give nothing. Improvement was noted in 51% of children who did not receive any medication, 67% in the medication group, and 71% in children who received placebo instead of medication. The conclusion is that most cold remedies have a placebo effect - that is, if you pay for the drug and go through all the trials to get your child to take it, you are programmed to see positive results. In the interest of those who like to run through pharmacies looking for cure for the common cold, let's take a critical look at all of these dubious relief remedies.

There are many different remedies for the common cold, and the methods of action declared in advertising can be grouped simply: they dry or thin the secretion produced by the mucous membrane (mucus) and compress or constrict the vessels and glands that produce mucus in the airways.

Drops and nasal sprays. Drops and sprays are decongestants that constrict the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa and cause the nasal mucosa to shrink, thereby opening the nasal passages. In infants, nasal drops are safe but can be abused. Cold medications for babies do provide temporary relief by helping the baby breathe. Babies, as you may remember, reluctantly breathe through their noses, which means they have a hard time breathing through their mouths when their noses are blocked, as adults do. They struggle hard to breathe through a blocked nose. Nasal drops usually open a blocked nose after three to four minutes, allowing a child who previously had a stuffy nose and was unable to find a place for themselves to eat or sleep. But be careful: use nasal drops no more than three times a day for no more than three days in a row, as they have the opposite effect: artificially narrowed blood vessels expand even more, and the nose becomes even more congested. To make nasal drops more effective (so that they can get to the nasal mucosa, where they have to do the work), first clear the nose and only then bury it.

Decongestants. Oral decongestants cause the lining of the airways to contract by narrowing the dilated blood vessels and decreasing the secretion of the mucous membrane. Not only is there little evidence that decongestants relieve babies, but they can also harm. Remember our goal: to keep the selection fluid and moving. Studies have shown that decongestants interfere with cilia, the tiny hairs lining Airways and pushing mucus. This fact, combined with the drying effect of anti-edematous antihistamines, can actually lead to stagnant secretions. In addition, at doses high enough to relieve swelling, these drugs can overexcite the body, causing heart palpitations, hyperactivity, and insomnia. Even over-the-counter medications, if necessary, should be used on infants with extreme caution and only in consultation with your doctor.

Antihistamines. As the name suggests, antihistamines work by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance that is produced when an allergen comes in contact with allergy-prone mucous membranes in the respiratory tract. Histamine stimulates secretion: it runs from the nose, watery eyes, the child sneezes. Antihistamines can work if your child's symptoms are related to allergies, but are likely to be useless for colds. Side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, and indigestion. In infants and young children, antihistamines sometimes stimulate the nervous system instead of being sedative. Some drugs are a combination of a decongestant and an anti-histamine, but unless your doctor advises you to use them, for infants better drugs with one ingredient. Sometimes babies have both allergies and colds at the same time, and it is difficult to separate one from the other or tell what is the root cause, how to distinguish a cold from an allergy. To make it easier for you to decide which cold remedy will help your child, take a look at these recommendations.

Seek advice from your doctor to find an over-the-counter remedy for your child's symptoms.

Do not give a combination of decongestants and antihistamines to a baby under nine months of age unless your doctor tells you to.

Give decongestants and antihistamines before bedtime or at night to give the baby a rest, and before feedings if a stuffy nose prevents the baby from eating. Avoid these drugs if they cause insomnia in the child; try nose drops instead.

Limit the use of cold medications to the following situations: if your doctor has advised you to use them; if a stuffy nose really bothers the child, that is, does not allow him to sleep or eat; if the child tolerates these drugs without unwanted side effects(the tolerance of various drugs in infants differs significantly) and you objectively think that they help.

For most acute respiratory ailments and most children, your homemade nose care kit is still the most reliable, least expensive, and most effective medicine for colds - of course, along with the treatment of time.

When to call a doctor

In most cases, the common cold caused by viruses requires only careful nasal care, plenty of fluids, and time. It is not necessary to run to the pharmacy or to the doctor. But sometimes the cold does not want to go away (the snot thickens), and you face the decision whether or not to take the child to the doctor. Here's how to identify.

How much does a cold bother the child? Maybe the child is cheerful, plays happily, eats and sleeps well, and has little or no fever? Such a cold only disturbs the loud noises produced by the child, and requires only treatment at home and your gentle hands.

What comes out of a child's nose? If the discharge is clear and watery (running from the nose), don't worry. If the discharge becomes thicker and thicker, yellow or green (what is called snot) and stays that way for most of the day, this may be cause for greater concern, especially when the temperature rises and the moodiness rises. Little secret: don't let the secretions you find when you wake up in the morning hold you back. This is a common occurrence even with a cold that runs easily, since the discharge has thickened overnight. Rinse your nose and see if the discharge becomes transparent again.

Look your child in the eye. Eyes are the mirror of health. If your child's eyes are still bright, there is nothing to worry about. But if they have faded, you should be wary. If a yellow substance oozes from the corners of a child's eyes most of the day (and not just in the morning), this is cause for concern.

Special Note: Festering eyes with a cold always deserve a doctor's examination. This is a sign of possible sinus or ear inflammation. Discharge from the eyes against the background of redness of the eyeballs in the absence of a runny nose can be conjunctivitis, and not a cold at all. Why do we adhere to the rule not to treat festering eyes over the phone if a child has a cold.

In what direction does the disease develop? From the first to the third day, the nose flows with might and main, and the child plays as if nothing had happened. On the fifth day, the snot thickens and the child becomes quiet; other symptoms appear: fever, moodiness and a haggard appearance. Take your child to the doctor immediately. Colds go away without complications in three to five days; if there is a gradual deterioration, this is a cause for alarm.

Other signs and symptoms.

Most of the common cold is simply uncomfortable because a stuffy nose interferes with breathing. Once the nose is cleared, the child should feel better. But if a child is naughty, has a thick nasal discharge, high fever, insomnia, sore throat, sore eyes, severe cough, or swollen, festering eyes - these are signs that something more than a simple cold is brewing.

What to expect in a doctor's office

When a doctor examines your child with an acute respiratory illness, he first of all tries to determine if it is caused by viruses, in which case it will go away without any medication, or bacteria, and deserves antibiotic treatment. The next question is: if it is an inflammation caused by bacteria, where is it localized: in the nose, sinuses, throat, ears or chest? If the doctor does not find signs of bacterial inflammation in any of these secluded spots, and if the child is not feeling too bad, the doctor will advise you to continue home treatment with the instruction, "Call me if the child gets worse." Don't forget this tip. The common cold often spreads to the sinuses, ears or chest, and this requires a change in diagnosis and treatment.

Non-drug healing technique

The task is to help the body cleanse itself of accumulated "debris" by strengthening the work of all excretory organs. The great Russian physician A. Zalmanov emphasized: "The protection of the body, the power of self-healing are inexhaustible!" (Zalmanov A. Secret wisdom human body). If we leave the body of a pregnant woman alone, give her a rest and, moreover, help her to quickly remove slag accumulations through the excretory organs, her health will dramatically improve. How to do it?

Rest is what a modern man needs during an illness. This is especially important for women who combine active work with taking care of home, children and family.

Correct diet, helping a speedy recovery, is very important during colds. The most effective "treatment" for colds is to rest the digestive tract from at least high-calorie foods. Often sick people eat a lot, not because their appetite really increases (just usually a piece does not fit in their throats), but because it is believed that this will reinforce the fading forces.

In fact, during an illness, the body needs all its strength to overcome it; they should not be spent on digesting and assimilating high-calorie foods.

Try not to eat for at least one day (if you don't feel like it, especially if your throat hurts), but just drink. Usually during illness, appetite disappears, especially in young children whose instincts have not yet been suppressed. I assure you, you will not starve to death in a couple of days! Your body needs mainly drinking and increased doses of natural vitamins, especially vitamin C.

If you still feel hungry, try spending 1-2 days on fruits: apples, bananas, grapefruits, fresh fruits seasonally, dried fruit compote (see Letter 3, section "Bernard Jensen's Cleansing Diet"). Of course, it is expensive, but it seems that we are beginning to be convinced in practice that it is more profitable and cheaper to stay healthy.

Remember that not all juices and fruits are always the same.

While the temperature and the phenomenon of colds are holding, take courage and patience and do not eat anything except fruits and vegetables (you can not limit the amount, although it is preferable to eat a little, but more often).

Then, when all the symptoms of a cold have subsided, the temperature is normalized, start gradually expanding the diet, using the recommendations given in the section "Bernard Jensen's Cleansing Diet" (Letter 3). Eat meat and fish only when absolutely all symptoms of a cold have completely disappeared.

It is best to drink juices, fruit drinks, jelly, dried fruit compotes, fortified teas, a decoction of MINT with honey or jam (if you are allergic to honey) - in general, any drinks containing a large amount of vitamin C.

To increase the amount of vitamin C, you can add concentrated or natural lemon juice, rosehip syrup.

If you have a diseased gastrointestinal tract, herculean broth relieves pain. You can add honey or jam to taste. In this case, it is best to drink not fruit drinks, but jelly, enveloping the diseased gastrointestinal tract.

When you are lying in bed and relaxing, the easiest way is to put a thermos near the bed, in which something warm to taste is poured (within the above set of fortified drinks). A loving husband can pamper you with fruit drink or jelly from cranberries, lingonberries, sea buckthorn, blueberries - it all depends on your supplies. Don't waste your money on huge plastic bottles with colorful labels. Better to buy natural juices or dry juice extracts. By the way, with their help you can make delicious jelly.

It is best to drink a little, but more often. This is especially important for pregnant women whose kidneys are not entirely in order.

If you have chills, drink all drinks warm.

Juices can be drunk through a straw.

Try to "hold out" only on drinking for 1-2 days: this will greatly alleviate your condition and help the body spend all its strength and all its energy on fighting colds.

In addition to drinks, you must use diaphoretic tea.

Diaphoretic herbal tea is a wonderful helper without negative side effects. It is known that 100 g of diaphoretic tea replaces 2 aspirin tablets.

If a young woman has a fragile nervous system, you can add sedative herbs that protect the nervous system: valerian root, motherwort, hops, hawthorn (flowers and berries - with a sick heart). When there is a tendency to hypertension (high blood pressure), the creeper is added, with a tendency to hypotension (low blood pressure) - Eleutherococcus.

All herbs are collected together in 1 tbsp. spoon in an enamel bowl, mix, if possible, grind in a coffee grinder and store in a jar with a lid or in a linen bag (not in a plastic bag!), labeled "sweatshop tea".

For colds, catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, flu, sore throat, brew at the rate of 2 teaspoons of the mixture in a glass of boiling water. Moreover, it is easier and best of all to brew herbs in a thermos. Such a hot infusion will be ready in half an hour, but you can insist it all night. Then the diaphoretic tea must be filtered. You can again pour it into the same diaphoretic tea hot with honey or jam and lemon juice. You can use concentrated lemon juice.

If you find yourself in the village in the summer, be sure to cook healing jam from forest raspberries or strawberries. Remember to hide it away from the sweet tooth. Such a diaphoretic tea with jam would be good to drink several times a day, but at night it is necessary.

A naturopathic perspective

1. Not a single serious illness attacks a person as a “thief in the night” - it is preceded by repeated attempts by the body to open “safety valves” and remove accumulated toxic waste and slags outside. They are formed as a result of the fact that the usual excretory organs - skin, lungs, liver, kidneys - do not have time to completely remove waste products during metabolism. The role of such valves is played by the so-called acute diseases, among which the common cold is in the first place. Even Hippocrates said: "An acute disease is a friend of man, and a chronic one is his enemy."

2. An acute condition, including a cold, is accompanied by active reactions of the body. They usually start quickly, sometimes literally before our eyes in children: the temperature rises sharply, chills and fever appear. However, in severe chronicles all reactions are dull: the temperature practically does not rise. In a weakened patient, all processes are sluggish and slow. Therefore, paradoxical as it may seem, the healthier a person is, the more active, “more acutely” he gets sick. That is why children who have a stronger immune system response tend to get violently ill.

3. Any acute illness, primarily a cold, is a kind of defense reaction of the body, demonstrating that it has entered the fight against the disease as an enemy. A signal that the challenge has been accepted (the immune system is actively involved in the work and the production of antibodies begins) is an increase in temperature, an increase in the number of leukocytes in the blood. No wonder naturopaths say that leukocytes are soldiers who guard health. During a cold, our body is literally "spring cleaning", cleansing of internal debris. Viruses burn in a fire of temperature, and toxins are excreted with the help of mucus (runny nose).

"Never blame a cold, but rather, be grateful for the timely warning of the body ... Colds are the result of excessive accumulation of body waste and insufficient, poor excretion of them" (Walker N. Treatment with raw vegetable and fruit juices).

4. A cold is the first signal of trouble in the body, and if this "trifling" malaise is taken with the utmost seriousness and responsibility, then, perhaps, more serious illnesses will not appear.

5. With a cold (however, as with any other "acute" disease), a holistic or systemic approach must first of all be followed. It is necessary to influence the organism as a whole. It is necessary that a pregnant woman (or those who care for her) try to activate the work of all excretory organs (skin, lungs, kidneys, liver, gastrointestinal tract) in order to remove, remove accumulated debris from the body, bring the disease out, and not drive her inside, into a chronic state. For example, with a severe cold, do not give drops that dry out the mucous membrane, but increase the secretion of accumulated mucus with the help of diaphoretic procedures, when coughing, do not muffle it with tablets so as not to drive the mucus deeper into the bronchi and lungs, but give expectorant herbs, etc.

The common cold is the root of all diseases

A Japanese proverb says, "The common cold is the root of all diseases." Let's try to use this popular wisdom and tell you about the rules of behavior during colds that naturopaths recommend for a non-drug approach to recovery. Reasonable adherence to these recommendations will allow the body of a pregnant woman to cope with the disease, suppress it in the embryo and prevent the common cold from taking deep roots in a hereditarily weak organ.

Imagine: you still caught a cold ... although you tried to temper and eat right. This happens to everyone, especially in the dank autumn. What to do? Of course, a doctor must be called!

Is it possible to do without medication for a common cold? Not only is it possible, but also highly desirable. Over the centuries, naturopaths have accumulated a whole arsenal of nonspecific, acting on the entire body as a whole, means that not only ease the course of a cold period, but also allow avoiding complications, which is extremely important.

We strongly want to emphasize that in no case do we set ourselves the goal of replacing a doctor. A pregnant woman needs to see a doctor for help in all cases of ailment! And if her condition is serious and hospitalization is required, then you need to fully rely on medical experience and advice.

We only call for not taking strong and very effective drugs in severe cases, especially antibiotics, unless absolutely necessary. It is wiser and more practical, at the slightest sign of a cold and in some simple cases, to use non-pharmacological "old" methods, which are now re-winning the rights of citizenship.

Try with initial symptoms flu, colds and other acute respiratory diseases turn to grandmother's recipes, rely on grandfather's wisdom, do with old folk remedies, and this will allow you to get maximum health from a banal cold.

Prophylaxis

With flu, colds for the prevention of influenza, take a mixture prepared as follows: 2 lemons and 2 heads of garlic are grated, the resulting gruel is mixed and poured with 1 liter of boiled water, kept for 3 days in a dark place at room temperature, filtered, put in the refrigerator, take 1 tablespoon on an empty stomach. The mixture should be taken from early fall to late spring.

You can noticeably improve your well-being with the flu by inhaling aromatic fumes. They do it like this: while boiling, add lemon juice, a little salt, eucalyptus leaves or eucalyptus oil to the water, pour this mixture into a cup. You need to hold the cup slightly below your face and breathe deeply in vapors through your nose. It is advisable to breathe alternately first one nostril, then the other. If one nostril does not work, for example the right one, then it is recommended to lie on the left side - the right nostril should open - and vice versa. And at night you need to drink 1 teaspoon of honey with lemon juice.

For a runny nose, it is helpful to frequently rinse the nose with water and lemon juice.

Another remedy for the common cold. Mix 150 g of grated horseradish in a bottle with juice from 2-3 lemons. This will make a pretty thick sauce. You need to take half a teaspoon of this sauce daily in the morning and the same amount in the afternoon. Most likely, profuse lacrimation will appear, but herbalists advise not to pay attention to such trifles - on the contrary, it is worth persistently and persistently continuing the treatment. The medicine should not be diluted or washed down with water or any other liquid. After taking the medicine, you must refrain from drinking for at least half an hour. After a few weeks, the tears will gradually disappear when taking the medicine - the less mucus, the fewer tears. An old recipe states that this sauce does not irritate the kidneys, gallbladder and intestinal walls, provided that "no vinegar is added" to it. Horseradish should be fresh. The sauce can be kept cold for quite some time.

During flu epidemics, it is also recommended to prepare lemon oil for prevention: put 1 lemon in hot water for 1 minute, mince it (along with the zest), mix with 100 g of butter and add 1-2 tablespoons of honey. Store and use like regular butter.

You can do this: finely chop the lemon along with the peel and cover with vegetable oil. For flu, use this oil on your nostrils several times a day, rub it on your gums after meals and before meals, and on your soles and ears overnight. Also use this oil for salad dressing.

If you put a slice of lemon on your cheek (moving it from side to side until the intense salivation stops), you can protect yourself from the flu by being in contact with the patient. At elevated temperatures, it is recommended to eat as many lemons as possible. Lemon juice water is an effective and safe antipyretic agent.

At the very beginning of the disease, as soon as your throat hurts, drink a glass of freshly squeezed grapefruit, orange or pomegranate juice, half diluted with warm boiled water, or a glass of water with 5 drops of 5% alcohol solution of iodine.

Effective remedy at any stage of the disease - slowly chew a lemon with zest (the procedure is good to do every day).

For chronic diseases of the pharynx, chronic tonsillitis, the following therapeutic cocktail is recommended: 2 tablespoons of red beets, 250 ml of kefir, 1 teaspoon of rosehip syrup, juice of half a lemon.

At severe cough boil 1 lemon for 10 minutes over low heat, remove it, cut and squeeze out the juice. Take a teaspoon throughout the day for coughing fits.

Another way: mix 1 tablespoon of honey with the juice of 1 lemon, break 2 fresh eggs into it, stir well. Pour this mixture with 1 cup of cooled boiled water and stir again.

Sip every hour throughout the day. Traditional healers recommend this mixture to both adults and children.

Sore throat treatment

You can gargle with a 30% citric acid solution every hour during the day. Or: take 2-3 slices of lemon, peel them, hold in your mouth, sucking, trying to keep the lemon slices as close to the throat as possible. Perform this procedure every hour. It is also good to eat 1 lemon whole with the peel during the day.

For young children, they used to smear their throats with lemon juice using a cotton swab put on a splinter, and then put a warming compress on the neck, which was changed every 3-4 hours. An older child was allowed to gargle every hour with a warm solution of lemon juice (juice of 1 lemon per 1 glass of boiling water). If the patient was unable to gargle himself, he was given pure juice squeezed from a slice of lemon, then watered with hot lemon tea (the juice of one lemon was poured into hot tea) and put to bed.

For fever and malaria

The juice of any citrus fruit helps to cope with intense fever and the accompanying unpleasant symptoms. There is one more recipe: mix 100 g of dry crushed orange peels and 0.5 liters of vodka, leave for 2 weeks, shaking occasionally, then strain. Take 1 teaspoon 3 times a day 20 minutes before meals with water.

2. In case of a runny nose, soak 2 flagella from a bandage with honey, then insert into the nasal passages for 10-15 minutes. The effect of the procedure is the appearance of heat in the nasal passages. You should do 4-5 procedures.

3. Aloe juice and beetroot juice are instilled into each nasal passage 2-3 drops every 3-4 hours with a cold.

4. For the prevention of colds during an epidemic, it is recommended to eat 2-3 cloves of fresh garlic and a medium-sized onion every day.

Scientists have proved that the "slagged" organism polluted with toxins loses its defenses, its immunity is weakened. If a person is not hardened, then the nasal mucosa ceases to resist viruses and bacteria, and since the body is polluted, it succumbs to infection. Prevention of colds and infections is constant hardening, the development of nonspecific immunity. If the body is clean and hardened, then meeting with sick people is not so scary, although it is better for pregnant women to take care and avoid contact with sick people.

Cold includes a number of diseases caused by hypothermia. A cold occurs for the simple reason that when hypothermia or in another situation that suppresses the immune system, those viruses and bacteria that your immunity could easily restrain are activated.

Causes of the common cold

Fluctuations in temperature and humidity of the air and the associated hypothermia of the whole organism or its individual parts; low body resistance.

Cold symptoms

General malaise, cough, runny nose, sometimes fever. Symptoms of a cold, or, more correctly, ARVI (acute respiratory viral infection) do not appear at once and do not go away immediately, some, such as a runny nose or cough, can last for a long time.

Cold treatment

For colds, bed rest is indicated. If you endure a cold "on your feet" and do not treat it, complications on the internal organs are possible, and these consequences will affect in adulthood.

Here are some tips from your doctor to help manage a mild cold:

We constantly monitor the temperature for colds, if it does not rise above 38 and the state of health is normal - do not take antipyretic drugs, the heat destroys viruses and microbes. It is only necessary to resort to antipyretic drugs for the treatment of colds when the temperature is above 38 ° C.

Drink plenty of fluids for colds: hot tea, rosehip infusion, cranberry juice, warm milk. Together with the liquid, viruses and their toxins will be washed out of the cells of the body. It is undesirable to drink plain water, so as not to reduce the supply of salts in the body. To cope with the chills, wear cotton underwear and something warm on it. Firstly, multilayer clothing retains heat better, and secondly, the components of such a "wardrobe" are easy to vary depending on body temperature.

Place an extra pillow under your head before going to bed for a cold with a runny nose.- this will facilitate the outflow of mucus, and a runny nose with a cough will not be too severe during sleep. You can simply raise the head of the bed.

Feeling the beginning of a cold, spend a couple of days at home in bed. This is both the warmth necessary for a cold, and energy savings, which is better spent on fighting the virus.

If you lose your appetite while treating a cold, don't force yourself to eat. Products such as kefir, yogurt, fermented baked milk are ideal for treating colds. The bacteria in lactic acid foods help fight colds. Consume immunomodulators such as garlic, onions, and fresh lard. Baked onions, unlike raw ones, can be eaten in any quantity.

If the cold lasts more than a week, can not do without drugs. It is better, of course, that a doctor picks them up and prescribes them for the treatment of colds. However, surveys show that most people prefer to treat colds without resorting to the help of doctors. Just buy medicines from trusted pharmacies, because the market is flooded with fake medicines. Moreover, the most popular ones are especially often faked: analgin, aspirin and other popular pain relievers and antipyretics.

When treating a cold, you cannot suppress a cough with pills., with the help of coughing, the lungs and bronchi are cleared of mucus and microbes. Expectorant drugs are recommended: mucaltin, licorice root, plantain.

In the treatment of colds, acupressure is recommended... With the onset of a runny nose, experts advise pressing on the points located next to the wings of the nose, under the nose, between the eyes and in the center of the chin. To reduce chills, work on a point just below the elbow joint. For a headache, massage the area between your thumb and forefinger (if you bring them together, the desired point will be on top).

Finely crush a few cloves of peeled garlic and stir in a glass of milk. Next, boil this mixture and let it cool. Take a teaspoon several times a day - this will significantly alleviate the clinical course of the disease.

In case of a runny nose, instill 3-5 drops of menthol oil in the nose, while lubricating the forehead, temples, and nose with it. You can mix menthol oil with camphor oil and follow the same procedure.

Rinse and chop fresh pine needles (100 g), then pour 1 liter of boiling water, bring to a boil and turn off the heat. Insist 1-2 hours, strain and drink 1/2 cup 3-4 times a day, dissolving 1 tablespoon of honey in the drink. The infusion is rich in vitamin C, as well as other vitamins and minerals. Iodine will also help against chronic rhinitis. Dissolve 6-7 drops with 2 teaspoons of boiled water and add the mixture 2 times a day, morning and evening. In addition, during the day you need to often inhale iodine vapors directly from the bottle, first one, then the other nostril. Sea salt is also rich in iodine and has a strong antiseptic effect. It is diluted in the proportion: 1 teaspoon per 250 ml of warm water for adults and 500 ml for children. The nose is washed with this solution, pouring liquid into one nostril in a thin stream so that it pours out of the other.

Aloe juice, mixed with honey and dry wine, protects against colds, increases the body's resistance to infectious diseases. The mixture is infused for 5-6 days. Take 1 teaspoon before meals. To do this, you need to bend over the vessel, suck in the solution with your nose and release it from your mouth. Thus, rinse your nose with the entire solution without lifting your head. Blow your nose. Do this twice a day, morning and evening, for chronic rhinitis.

The flu will go away without complications if you take 1 tablespoon juice of burdock leaves 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals. During the harvest season, that is, from June to September, it is recommended to take pure juice, and the rest of the time - tincture: 50 g of vodka per 250 ml of juice, leave for 5-7 days.

Squeeze the juice out of one lemon. Dissolve it together with 100 g of lilac honey in 800 ml of boiled water. This drink should be drunk throughout the day. Perform procedures for a month.

Dissolve 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of brandy in 1 glass of hot tea. Drink in small sips.

Dilute a glass of hot tea with 1 tablespoon of raspberry berries or jam and 1 tablespoon of 70-degree alcohol or wine balsam. Drink in small sips. For a diaphoretic effect, cover your head with a handkerchief or towel.

For children, especially small ones, with a runny nose, bury freshly prepared red beet juice in the nose.

Home remedies for colds, Vanga recipes

Colds people are more prone to spring and fall. Most treat a cold as inevitable and do not even try to cure it, believing that, no matter how he is treated, cold will still disappear no earlier than in a week. In fact, you can cope with the disease if you catch a cold at the very beginning and do not allow the cold to take over your body. In addition, at the initial stage, it is not only necessary to swallow pills, but it is not necessary because there are many others effective ways treatment.

Runny nose with a cold

There is a saying: if a runny nose is not treated, it will go away in a week, if treated - in 7 days. Far from it. If you start treatment on time, you can get rid of a cold in just a couple of days, or even prevent its occurrence.

At the first symptoms of a cold and runny nose, irrigate the nasopharynx with saline. Then the runny nose will go away not in a week, but in two days. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of boiled water and use a syringe to rinse the nasal passages in turn. At the same time, you cannot throw your head back - you need to stand directly above the sink so that the water flows back. You can use a very weak infusion of garlic to irrigate the nasopharynx, while preparing the infusion, try it on a healthy person, the infusion should not pinch a non-inflamed nasopharynx.

One of the most effective ways to combat a stuffy nose is steam inhalation. Add a few drops of menthol or eucalyptus essential oil to boiling water, cover your head with a towel and breathe over a bowl of boiling water. Eucalyptus and menthol have anti-inflammatory properties and make breathing much easier. If you add a little dry cinnamon to this water, it will help warm and sweat, or 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, which improves blood circulation and copes with viruses.

Another well-known remedy for rhinitis and colds is to steam your feet well before bed. Foot baths do help, but only if you soak your feet for no longer than five minutes. The fact is that the effect of foot baths is based on the mechanism of vasoconstriction (most nose drops have about the same effect). When you soar your legs, blood rushes to the lower extremities, the vessels of the head begin to narrow, and the runny nose disappears. If you keep your feet in the basin for a long time, say half an hour, your blood vessels will begin to expand again, the blood will again rush to the nasal cavity, and inflammation may develop, which is much higher than the initial one. That is, paradoxically, instead of disappearing, the runny nose will intensify. Soaring legs for a long time is useful for colds without a runny nose, thereby increasing body temperature and helping the immune system to cope with viruses. Attention! Any hot baths are contraindicated at elevated temperatures!

Cold cough

At the first signs of an onset cough, your main task is to warm up well and strengthen immunity in order to help the body get rid of this scourge.

Peppermint infusion gives a good warming effect. Pour a tablespoon of mint with a glass of boiling water, heat for 5 minutes over low heat, strain. Then stir in this infusion a teaspoon of honey, the juice of a quarter of a lemon and drink the infusion hot before bed. In most cases, after such treatment, the cough disappears literally overnight. To consolidate the effect, it is a good idea to make a hot compress by mixing three parts hot water with one part apple cider vinegar. The compress is applied to the throat and chest for 15–20 minutes.

Well, in order to strengthen the body's defenses, it is worth leaning on ascorbic acid and foods that contain vitamin C, that is, citruses and fresh vegetables. And as an addition, a "cold" cocktail is suitable: take a teaspoon of rosehip syrup, 2 tablespoons of beetroot juice and kefir each, squeeze the juice of half a lemon into this mixture.

Sore throat with a cold

Gargling with warm water mixed with a few drops of eucalyptus, thyme or cypress oil will help to quickly relieve a sore throat. All of these plants have antibacterial effects and help fight infection.

A hot bath with 10 drops of lavender oil and 5 drops of cinnamon oil is also helpful. However, if, in addition to a sore throat, you also have a fever, it is better to cancel the bath - hot water combined with heat puts too much stress on the heart. Therefore, instead of a bath, it is better to simply rub your feet with a hard towel.

A tablespoon of dried leaves of mother-and-stepmother is brewed like tea in a glass of boiling water. Strain it, add a tablespoon of honey and three tablespoons of beer. Take a tablespoon warm 2-3 times a day. Beer can also be used as a compress if the alcohol compresses irritate the skin of the neck. Heat a glass of beer to 30 degrees, add 1 teaspoon of honey and stir well until the honey dissolves. Soak a napkin in this composition, wrap it around your neck and wrap it in a warm scarf.

Treatment of rhinitis and colds by fasting

It is bad to live when a runny nose begins. And if this happens, please do not blame nature. It's not about a draft, wet feet, or cooling. The reason lies in the loss of inner purity. When there are too many waste and toxins, the body rejects them with a runny nose. Don't think of it as a viral exposure or disease. You must understand that the vitality in this case is working for you.

If you are in harmony with nature, then you will help her in her cleansing work. You should not do anything to interfere with the cleaning process. The only thing that is required of you is fasting!

Nature knows best what to do. In this case, you have only one thing - to go to a warm bed. Stop eating all foods, including fruits and fruit juices. Drink plenty of hot distilled water from time to time with a little honey and lemon juice and nothing else!
Ensure good ventilation and clean air in the bedroom, do not read, do not turn on the radio, do not watch TV. Just sleep and rest. Try not to waste energy talking with family and friends. Isolate yourself completely.

How long should you fast during a cleansing crisis? Such crises occur at any time of the year, but most often they occur in cold weather. Most often, three days is enough to get you back on your feet, but sometimes it can take a week or ten days. Do not worry about the days, you yourself will find that your health has improved after the cleansing crisis.

For most people, the method seems too simple. It seems to them that they should definitely do something, be treated, they are possessed by fears. Do not give in to panic, even if it seems that nature has been working for too long for your purification and health.

Each person should treat his health with the more attention, the more he is imbued with an understanding of his body. He must keep the body in a state of the highest health, and this is more important than knowledge of other sciences.

Each person is a creator of his character, but he is also the guardian of his own health and wellness.

Nature, having created man, gave him an amazing mind and creative possibilities to skillfully use natural forces for his health. Fasting is just one of the pathways to natural health. Nature provides us with a simple cleansing agent. We just have to be at one with nature and bring our life in accordance with its immutable laws. And thanks to the natural way of life, we can bring our physical, mental and spiritual capabilities to the highest perfection. There are no shortcuts to health. Nature expects us to do our part. When we are hungry, we do it. But nature will never show its miracles until we ourselves wish to bring our lives and habits into full compliance with its laws.

Any surplus is contrary to nature.
Trust in nature
No one person has the right to take on any obligation to heal another, because this is a matter of nature.
Through fasting and the consumption of only natural food, as well as other natural habits, anyone can make their life healthy. Cleansing is an internal biological function that can only be performed by the body itself, and by starving, you make this work more effective. Nature is constantly trying to make you more vital and healthy, and therefore, when nature begins cleansing crises, she knows what she is doing. Follow nature, it will never let you down. Fasting is the greatest helper. (P. Bragg The Miracle of Fasting)

Prevention of colds and ARVI

Here are some pretty simple rules that will help you avoid SARS.

A gauze bandage or mask is a good barrier to infection. It will protect you in crowded places. But do not forget: the mask protects only for 2-3 hours, after which it should be changed to a fresh one.

Studies have shown that a person's hands come into contact with secretions from the nose, mouth, and eyes hundreds of times during the day.

Handshake, touch door handles, handrails in public transport - all these are ways of transmission of infection through the hands.

Through the hands, germs enter the nose, mouth, eyes.

Therefore, it is advisable, if possible, to abandon handshakes altogether (especially during epidemics of viral diseases). Hands should be washed frequently, especially during periods of unfavorable epidemiological conditions.

In order to prevent influenza and SARS, it is very important to limit contact with sick people, this is especially true for children. It is advisable to avoid crowded places, use public transport as little as possible. Long walks in the fresh air are helpful.

General strengthening measures

One of the important methods for the prevention of acute respiratory diseases (in this case, we are not talking about the flu) is hardening, which is aimed at normalizing the function of the human respiratory system under low temperature conditions, which reduces the risk of infection.

For the purpose of prevention, it is recommended to take multivitamins with a high content of vitamin C. Ascorbic acid has a general strengthening effect, since it participates in redox processes, carbohydrate metabolism, and regulation of the blood coagulation system. Vitamin C is rich in citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, grapefruits, tangerines), a lot of it in sauerkraut.

Inside ascorbic acid is taken 0.5-1 g 1-2 times a day.

Garlic and onions are a very affordable and indispensable means of prevention during the period of mass incidence of influenza and colds. It is enough to eat 3-4 cloves of garlic or 1 fresh onion every day.

Additional measures

Additional preventive measures include gargling and a nasal toilet.

For rinsing, you can use solutions of furacilin, soda, infusions or decoctions of medicinal plants (chamomile, sage, eucalyptus).

For the nasal toilet, the anterior portions of the nose are washed with plenty of soap and water. In this case, there is a mechanical removal of foreign elements. You can lubricate the nasal mucosa with an oil onion-garlic infusion.

  • Recipe: 0.3 cups of vegetable oil, 3-4 cloves of garlic, 0.25 onions.
Leave the vegetable oil in a glass container for 30–40 minutes in a boiling water bath. Finely chop the onion and garlic, add chilled butter. Leave the mixture for 2 hours and strain.
As a preventive measure, you can do 10-15-minute warm foot baths with the addition of dry mustard, after which it is very useful to rub your feet with any warming ointment.

It should be remembered that folk methods prophylaxis will only be effective if applied systematically.

We must not forget that during periods of epidemics, first of all, weakened people become victims of diseases.

The risk group includes people with any chronic diseases, prone to frequent stressful situations, malnourished, alcohol abuse.

You need to be especially careful with yourself in the spring, when the body is in a weakened state after a long cold period. At this time, when everything in nature comes to life, a person often begins the so-called spring depression. The causes of spring fatigue can be the consequences of previous colds, lack of sleep, lack of sunlight, vitamin deficiency.

Gradually accumulating, these negative factors become especially noticeable in the spring. It is not always possible to change something dramatically in your life (for example, quit a boring job).

Therefore, you can try to start with what is quite affordable: rearrange furniture, buy new things if possible, and get rid of old ones, plant new house plants, etc.

All of this will certainly improve your state of mind. But if, nevertheless, you did not manage to overcome the spring crisis and you fell ill, then take all possible measures for a speedy recovery.

Diet for colds

With a very severe cold with a high fever in the first days, you need to refrain from food, drink plenty of fluids, fruit and vegetable juices diluted with water. It is recommended to drink the juice of one lemon (vitamin C) dissolved in a glass of water with a teaspoon of honey to increase the body's resistance and reduce the duration of the illness. It is useful to take once a day a garlic broth (3–4 crushed garlic cloves, pour a glass of water and boil), which has an antispasmodic and antiseptic effect, flushes toxins from the body and relieves fever. After the acute stage of the disease is over, you can gradually move on to a balanced diet, initially limiting the consumption of meat, eggs, cheese and starch-containing foods.

Colds are most often ill during the fall and spring. The instability of the weather, temperature changes and, as a result, hypothermia of the body, lead to a weakening of the immune system. This creates a favorable environment for the multiplication of various viruses and bacteria in the body.

During this period, it is important to stop the cold at an early stage, and take a number of measures to eliminate it. Available for use at home will help you cope with the first symptoms of the disease.
