Outdoor aerated concrete plaster (front)

In modern construction, materials made from lightweight cellular concrete, such as aerated concrete and foam blocks, are widely used. The most popular and in demand is autoclaved aerated concrete. In order for the built house to be durable and could be used for its intended purpose for a long time, it is important not only to use high-quality building materials and observe all the technological stages of its construction. It is also necessary to carry out the correct subsequent external and internal decoration of the walls built of light cellular concrete. Facade plaster for aerated concrete today is one of the most popular methods of exterior decoration.

Correct and technologically competent plastering of the external surfaces of aerated concrete walls allows you to create reliable protection for them from a variety of adverse effects of the surrounding world. If this is not done, then blocks with high hygroscopicity, made of aerated concrete, with the first strong and prolonged rain, will be abundantly saturated with moisture. In the event that, after the rain, there is also a cold snap with negative temperatures, then the water accumulated by the blocks will freeze and begin to destroy the walls from the inside.

Facade plaster for aerated concrete must have a whole set of properties, and, above all, a high waterproofing index and a vapor permeability coefficient. In addition, it must have good adhesion to the surface to be applied, high compressive strength and be frost-resistant.

Types of compositions

Plastering the facade of a house made of aerated concrete can be made either from a self-mixed composition, or prepared from a purchased dry mix. The main types of facade plasters, depending on:

1.Mineral can be used to create a decorative thin layer for both exterior and interior decoration:

  • lime-sand (hartsovka);
  • cement-sand;

2. acrylic (polymer) is used to create a coating with high resistance to mechanical damage, for example, on basement surfaces;

3. silicone is universal, but widespread use is held back by a rather high price;

4. silicate is made on the basis of organic silicon polymers, its main disadvantage is the limited choice of colors and the rapid loss of its attractive appearance due to the high degree of contamination.

Among all the above types of plasters, only mineral plasters are dry compounds that must be diluted with water before use. All the rest are ready-made working mixtures.

How to perform plastering correctly? Main steps

1. Priming. For these works, it is better to use a primer based on siloxane acrylate, which has hydrophobic and strengthening properties. He will be able not only to protect the gas blocks from atmospheric precipitation, but also to strengthen the base. Priming can be carried out at temperatures from +10 to +25 ° C, after cleaning the walls from dirt and sealing cracks and surface defects with a special adhesive for aerated concrete.

2. Installation of alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh. This is a rather expensive material, but it is he who will hold the weight of the plaster layer and protect it from cracking.

3. Application of a special facade plaster mixture for aerated concrete, in a layer, the thickness of which can be from 4 to 9 mm.

4. Leveling the plaster layer.

5. Keeping the finishing layer in a state of "rest" until the working composition is completely dry.

6. Painting the dried layer with elastic and vapor-permeable paints.

In order for the plastered and painted facade not to deteriorate as long as possible, a thin layer of a water repellent can be applied to it. Such a coating is quite expensive, but thanks to it, the service life of the coating will increase 2 times.
