Frenzied Company: How "Gyurza" Staged a Purgatory for Militants in Chechnya. Frenzied company, call sign "Gyurza" 166th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade

Raging Company, call sign "Gyurza".

I would like to remind everyone about the legendary "Furious Company" reconnaissance company of the 166th separate motorized rifle brigade under the command of "Gyurza".

The Chechen militants' fear of her was so great that when the "Czechs" found out (usually through radio interception) that a "Mad Company" was moving into their area, they immediately abandoned their positions (no matter how strong they were) and fled - even if they outnumbered Frenzied Company many times over!

Alexey Viktorovich Efentiev, son of a hereditary military man, was born in 1963. He served in the ranks of military sailors. After demobilization, he entered the famous Baku Higher Military Combined Arms Command School, immediately after completing his studies with the rank of lieutenant he was sent to Afghanistan.

During his service in war-torn Afghanistan, Aleksey Efentiev went from platoon commander to head of a reconnaissance group. After that there was Nagorno-Karabakh.

1992-1994 captain Alexey Efentiev is the head of the headquarters of a separate reconnaissance battalion in Germany.

Since 1994 Alexey Efentiev in Chechnya... The military unit, which he commanded, was one of the best and most combat-ready unit of the Russian troops. A. Efentiev's call sign "Gyurza" was well known.

"Gyurza" was a legend of the first Chechen war. On his combat account, dozens of dangerous raids on the rear of the army of Dudaev's militants, the storming of Bamut and the lifting of the blockade from the special Coordination Center surrounded in the center of Grozny, when

Thanks to the heroism of "Gyurza", many high ranks of the Army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were saved, and large group of Russian correspondents... For this feat in 1996 A. Efentiev was nominated for the title "Hero of Russia".

During his service in hot spots, he was awarded the Orders For Military Merit, The Red Star, The Courage, The Medal For Distinction In Military Service I Degree, two medals For Military Merit, and other awards and distinctions.

A. Efentiev was the hero of numerous television programs on central television channels, and also became the prototype of "Gyurza" in Alexander Nevzorov's film "Purgatory".

After the first Chechen war, "Gyurza" pulled into his company more than half of the army, with whom he fought in a separate 166th motorized rifle brigade. Some were pulled out of deep drunkenness, some were literally picked up on the street, some were saved from dismissal.

"Spetsnaz" men led by their commander erected a monument to their comrades who died in Chechnya... They ordered a granite monument with their own money, and built a foundation for it on their own.

The reconnaissance company, commanded by "Gyurza", was nicknamed "rabid" by the Chechen militants. In order not to be confused with ordinary infantry, the commandos tied black headbands taken from the killed "Czechs" on their heads, it was a kind of dedication: each newcomer had to remove the black bandage from the "Czech" he had killed and cut off his ears.

(According to Karan, it is believed that Allah pulls the ears of the dead and cut off the ears of the killed, the special forces thus depriving the Muslim militant of the opportunity to go to heaven. This was a huge psychological impact on the enemy).

They invariably went first and entered the battle, even when the numerical advantage was far from on their side. In April 1996, under Belgatoy, captured by the militants, machine gunner Romka, without stopping to fire, point-blank, full-length, without hiding, went to the firing point, as if Alexander Matrosov. The hero died, and his body was pulled out from under the fire of the Chechens by his comrade Konstantin Mosalev, which later A. Nevzorov will show in the film "Purgatory" under the pseudonym "Petersburg".

Bamut was taken by a reconnaissance company of the 166th brigade, which bypassed Bamut in the mountains from the rear. On the way to Bamut, the forward patrol of scouts collided with a detachment of militants, which was also going to Bamut. During the battle, 12 militants were killed (the bodies were left abandoned). Private Pavel Naryshkin was killed and junior sergeant Pribylovsky was wounded.

Naryshkin died saving the wounded Pribylovsky. The retreating Chechens left in a roundabout way to Bamut and there began a panic over the "Russian special forces brigade in the rear" (radio interception). After that, the militants made a decision to break through into the mountains along the right slope of the gorge, where they were caught by the advancing battalion of the 136th MRB.

In the oncoming battle, about 20 militants were killed, the losses of 136 brigades - 5 people were killed and 15 people were wounded. The remnants of the militants were partially dispersed, partially broke through and went into the mountains.

About 30 more were packed during the day during the pursuit of aircraft and artillery. It was a detachment of scouts of the 166th brigade that entered Bamut first. It was these contractors who were filmed in the report of Nevzorov.

PEOPLE are STRONGER STEEL

It was difficult to become a man in Chechnya, but it is possible

In order to be a patriot of your country, you need not only strong bones and muscles, but also strong brains! You need to understand who the real enemy of your Motherland is, and how you need to deal with him. You need to be smart and strong, but not vice versa ...

They only do to us what we ourselves allow to do

There was such a simple Russian guy, Sergei Maslenitsa, who was born on May 6, 1972 and grew up in Chechnya, in the village of Shelkovskaya, in a family of Terek Cossacks and hereditary military men.

His great-grandfather in the First World War earned a personal saber from the tsar for bravery, his grandfather died in 1944 in Belarus, becoming a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union, his father received an award pistol in 1968 for Czechoslovakia, his older brother died in Afghanistan ...

History

The ancestor of the 90th Panzer Division was the 325th Infantry Division (1st formation), which, in accordance with the directive of the NKO of the USSR dated August 11, 1941, by the decree of the Military Council of the Oryol Military District in the cities of Morshansk and Serdobsk, was formed from August 11 to November 15, 1941. From July 5 to August 23, 1943, the division took part in the Battle of Kursk. For the courage and heroism shown by the personnel of the division during the fighting for the liberation of Orel and Kursk, the division was awarded the honorary title of "Guards", and was transformed into the 90th Guards Rifle Division.

In 1945, the 90th Guards. SD was reorganized into the 26th Guards Mechanized Division with the inheritance of the awards and names of both divisions. During the period of subordination to the Northern Group of Forces, the division was stationed in the city of Borne-Sulinovo (Poland). In 1957, it was reorganized into the 38th Guards Tank Division. In the period from May 13 to September 5, 1968, the division took part in Operation Danube in Czechoslovakia. On August 20, 1968, the division received the task of crossing the state border of the GDR with Czechoslovakia. On August 21, 1968, it entered Czechoslovakia, where its units blocked designated objects. By order of the USSR Minister of Defense of October 17, 1968 No. 242 "for the exemplary fulfillment of the command assignment and international duty to assist the working people of Czechoslovakia in the fight against counterrevolutionary elements and the courage and courage shown at the same time" to all participants of the "Danube" operation, including the personnel of the division gratitude is declared.

In 1985, in accordance with the directives of the Minister of Defense of the USSR No. 314/1/00900 of December 4, 1984 and the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces No. 314/3/0224 of February 8, 1985, the 90th Guards Tank Division was reorganized into 6th Guards Motorized Rifle Vitebsk-Novgorod Twice Red Banner Division... In connection with this reorganization, the numbering (90th to 6th) and type (tank to motorized rifle) were exchanged with the 6th Guards Motorized Rifle Lvov Order of Lenin Red Banner Order of Suvorov, a division from the GSVG in the GDR. 6th Guards. TP became the 16th Guards. MSE, and the 215th Guards. TP became the 82nd Guards. msp.

On December 1, 1985, on the basis of the 126th separate reconnaissance battalion in the city of Bialogard (Poland), the 65th separate airborne assault battalion of 602 servicemen and 2 workers and employees was formed. The battalion was formed by Lieutenant Colonel V.M.Sinitsyn. In May - November 1986, in Bialograd, on the basis of the 65th separate airborne assault battalion, the 83rd separate airborne assault brigade of the Main Command of the Western Direction was formed.

Hero of the Russian Federation

TO Asyanov Ilya Anatolyevich - Chief of Intelligence of the 166th Guards Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Moscow Military District, Guards Major.

Born on May 28, 1961 in the city of Sochi, Krasnodar Territory. Russian. From early childhood, he lived with his parents in the city of Dzerzhinsk, Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) region. In 1976 he graduated from the 8th grade of secondary school No. 14, in 1978 - from the Minsk Suvorov military school.

In the Armed Forces since 1978. In 1982 he graduated from the Kiev Higher Combined Arms Command School, intelligence faculty. He served as the commander of the reconnaissance platoon of the 199th Verkhneudinsk regiment in Filino (Primorye).

In 1984-1986 he participated in hostilities as part of a limited contingent of Soviet troops in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. He was wounded twice.

On November 21, 1984, on the western outskirts of Herat, the car of the reconnaissance company commander, Captain Kasyanov, ran its right track onto a hidden guided landmine, as it turned out later, in 60-70 kg of TNT. The explosion tore out a third of the car's body, and pushed the turret vertically upward. The tower, having turned over in the air with a hatch down, fell to the ground, clamping, but not crushing the officer's torso. Then 11 months of hospitals in Shindad, Tashkent, Rostov, Kiev, where doctors performed very difficult operations on him and saved his leg.

I.A.Kasyanov was nominated for the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. However, officials in the award department considered that the absence of losses in the unit was not a reason for awarding.

After returning from the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, in 1986 he served in the Belarusian Military District, in 1988-1992 - in the 6th motorized rifle division (Northern Group of Troops, Poland). Since June 1993 - Chief of Intelligence of the 166th Guards Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Moscow Military District (city of Tver).

In the period from January to July 1995 he took part in hostilities on the territory of the Chechen Republic.

The 166th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, which was transferred to Chechnya in January 1995, was originally part of the Sever group, but did not take part in the battles and was in reserve. On February 12, it was transferred to reinforce the Southeast force grouping. The brigade, without loss, carried out a maneuver from the area east of Grozny and saddled the Alkhan-Yurt - Chechen-Aul road. Thus, the exit for the militant detachments from the regions of Aldy and Novye Promysly was blocked.

On February 18, the command of the 166th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade and the 506th Motorized Rifle Regiment was tasked with storming the dominant heights in the Novye Promyslov area on the southern outskirts of Grozny and, thereby, completing the encirclement of the capital of Chechnya. These heights were considered impregnable: the militants attached special importance to them and created a well-fortified defense system there, and a select unit was dispatched to defend them. The preparation of four assault groups and the general leadership of the daring combat operation were entrusted to the chief of reconnaissance of the 166th separate motorized rifle brigade, Major I.A.Kasyanov. Before the upcoming operation to encircle Grozny, he spent two days intensive training with assault groups, during which they practiced combat techniques in the mountains in conditions of limited visibility.

The assault began on the night of February 20-21. At 5.30 in the morning on February 21, the captain's assault group managed to silently bypass the militants' strongpoints, with a sudden raid took possession of the dominant height of 398.3 and concentrated on it. By the morning of February 21, units of the 166th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade from the south and the 506th Motorized Rifle Regiment from the north occupied six heights in Novye Promysly.

The militants at first retreated, believing that they were attacked by a large group. However, they subsequently launched a massive attack. For 40 minutes, artillery and mortars processed the height, after which the militants went to the assault. On the afternoon of February 21, the Dudayevites conducted several counterattacks, trying to regain the height, but they were all repulsed. In the battle, the tank of the commander of a tank company of the 506th motorized rifle regiment of the captain was knocked out. The company commander died from his wounds. On February 22, enemy attacks continued, but the 166th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade and the 506th Motorized Rifle Regiment were already firmly holding the dominant heights. The defense of the height by I.A. Kasyanov's scouts lasted two days. The success of the decisive and courageous actions of the scouts ensured the brigade's task of destroying the militants in the Novye Promysly area. The remnants of Dudaev's detachments defending Grozny were surrounded in the regions of Novye Promysly, Aldy and the suburb of Chernorechye. The blockade ring around the Chechen capital has closed. The victory of the scouts I.A. Kasyanov was also brilliant because there were no losses: there were only four wounded among the scouts.

Have by the Kazak of the President of the Russian Federation of May 15, 1995 for the courage and heroism shown during the performance of a special assignment, to the guard major Kasyanov Ilya Anatolyevich awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation with the presentation of a special distinction - the Gold Star medal (No. 155).

He continued to serve as the chief of intelligence of the 166th Guards Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade (Tver). In October 1996 he entered the training course for UN military observers in the city of Solnechnogorsk. After their completion - a military observer of the UN mission in Yugoslavia and Western Sahara. Returning from a business trip, since 1998 - a lecturer at the Department of Intelligence at the courses "Shot".

During the second war on the territory of the Chechen Republic, he again participated in hostilities. Lieutenant Colonel I.A. Kasyanov with his group left for Bamut.

On November 8, 1999, Lieutenant Colonel I.A. Kasyanov with a group of officers went out on reconnaissance four hundred meters from the forward edge. The enemy opened fire with a mortar, three of the four mines fired targeted the group. Five people died at once, I.A. Kasyanov was wounded. Legs, arms, neck were cut by shrapnel. The pilot of the called helicopter to pick up the wounded officer, who had no experience of flying in the mountains, failed to land the car. Another helicopter, due to the falling fog, was also unable to land. It was decided to take IAKasyanov "on the armor". The surgeon's regiment was not in the medical unit, then the officer was sent to the medical unit of the internal troops unit. Blood was needed for a transfusion, but unfortunately it was not there. In 6 hours and 20 minutes after the injury, I.A. Kasyanov died.

He was buried at the Dmitrovo-Cherkassky cemetery in Tver.

He was awarded the Order of Courage (02/04/2000), 2 Orders of the Red Star (11/21/1985; 12/19/1991), medals, as well as the United Nations medal "In the Service of Peace".

Streets in the village of Mamulino in the Tver region and in the city of Tver are named after the Hero. Memorial plaques are installed: in the city of Dzerzhinsk, on the facade of school No. 14, in which he studied and on the house in which he lived; in the village of Mamulino on the house in which he lived; in Minsk on the building of the Minsk Suvorov Military School.

So much has been written and said so much about the heroes of the first Chechen war that it is time to compile a large reference book with a complete list of the exploits of that war. However, the legendary special forces company of the 166th separate motorized rifle brigade did not enter the history of hostilities by accident. The militants, who until the last resisted the onslaught of the Russian military, called this company "rabid".
About delusions
It is customary, rightly or not, to attribute the most daring military operations during the period of the first Chechen campaign to the special forces of the GRU. Part of this glory, the special forces of the GRU General Staff owe the film "Purgatory" about the events in Chechnya, where Russian soldiers are shown in the role of such rip-off heads. By some strange coincidence, after the release of the scandalous feature film, the reconnaissance company of the 166th motorized rifle brigade began to be attributed to the GRU special forces. However, the "rabid" members of the special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff never entered and could not enter by definition. The "Gyurzy" company often worked side by side with the GRU fighters, but was never included in this special unit.
Another subject of controversy among the inhabitants and everyone who was interested in military operations during the first Chechen war was the company commander himself, Major Aleksey Efentiev with the call sign "Gyurza". In the heat of controversy and an abundance of information, he is called the "only" commander of an intelligence company, but in reality Efentiev was the last one who commanded the company until its disbandment. The military, who had long retired, say that Efentiev's first acquaintance with the company was not easy. The nature of the hostilities, their severity and fierce resistance from the militants, and the complex nature of the fighters also affected.
"Gyurza"

Efentiev himself, in numerous interviews that "covered" him on the wave of military glory, never spoke of himself as a special person and never considered himself a hero. However, Efentiev's colleagues, and just those who came across him, sometimes accidentally, in Chechnya say that the major's uncompromising and toughness brought discomfort only to those who did not understand why they were holding weapons in their hands. However, it was for “Gyurza”, a graduate of the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School, that not only the call sign, recognizable from the radio exchange, was entrenched, but also another nickname that did not arise from scratch.
Until the moment when he took command of a separate reconnaissance company of the 166th Motorized Rifle Brigade, Efentiev, immediately after graduating from the school, managed to serve in Afghanistan. From 1987 to 1988, "Gyurza" commanded a reconnaissance group. It was then, according to those who were familiar with Efentiev, that the playful nickname "Lesha - the golden hoof" was assigned to him. By some almost animal instinct, Efentiev was able to determine the direction of enemy fire by sound and "measured" the distance to the object by eye. The military say that rare commanders have such abilities - about one in a hundred. What explains this feeling and the unique army "chuyka" is hard for an ordinary person to understand, but where "Gyurza" led his group, there were never any losses.

“You need to feel the war, to be in the center of the battle. Understand that a machine gun is not just a piece of hardware, but your working tool, your best friend. It's like being a great race car driver and with every part of your body feeling any, even the smallest, change in the behavior of your car on the track, ”the former scouts say.
Another feature of the service under the command of "Gyurza" was the training of newly arrived contract soldiers. Unfired, having served only military service, the recruits often did not understand where the enemy was "working" from. Such miscalculations could cost the soldiers their lives, so "Gyurza" and the squad leaders taught the "young" right on the spot, arranging short training sessions with live shooting. For such initiatives, Efentiev himself and his subordinates could easily have gone to court, but they put the preservation of lives in that war above the established rules - delay could lead to irreparable consequences.
Combat brigade
The basis of the combat group "Gyurza" was not young people who first took the machine gun in their hands, but seasoned ones, taught by life, and in their own way wise, simple Russian men. The backbone of the reconnaissance company was made up of absolutely different people with completely different fates. Former policeman, gravedigger at the cemetery, teacher, miner. However, all of them, gathered by fate in one place and arriving to fight for the Motherland, voluntarily did their work as real professionals. Mature men showed boyish agility when a combat mission required it, and tremendous human experience in short moments of calm. The main humorist in the company was "Mitrokha", aka "Dmitrich" - a sniper who was a shooter, machine gunner, and squad leader - a strong native of Ivanovo, and the most experienced and judicious was considered "Petrovich" - a former police captain. People of different ages. In the battles in the Caucasus, many tied together, but the main thing was a sense of duty, need, importance and the need to be close to comrades in arms and the desire to "crush" the enemy to the last. Some soldiers of the "Gyurza" reconnaissance company did not have time to really recover from their wounds, as they immediately fled from the hospital, taking only pants and a shirt. This is exactly how Kostantin Mosalev is remembered, whom the director awarded the nickname "Kostya Pitersky" in the film "Purgatory". In fact, Mosalev's nickname in the detachment was "Skull". Because of the characteristic black bandanas with white skulls that stand out from the general mass. Mad

The militants did not like to contact the intelligence company. They knew - they will drive to the last. It is not known who nicknamed Efentiev's company “rabid”, but the nickname “settled down” not only among Chechen militants, but also among tankers, special forces and even staff officers. As soon as they talked about the battle of the "mad" over the radio, it immediately became clear - somewhere a real battle was taking place. Instincts worked and the ability to beat the enemy not by number, but by skill. Efentieva's company could fight in every way against forty militants and emerge victorious, and always, according to those who caught the events in Bamut and Grozny, drove the enemy to the last.In addition to dozens of raids deep into Basayev's positions, there are reconnaissance companies under the command of Efentiev and an unblocking operation , or, more correctly, a rapid breakthrough through the encircled Coordination Center in Grozny, completely occupied by militants. Thanks to this risky operation and, according to the confessions of many specialists, impossible from the point of view of the safety of the group, not only high-ranking officers were rescued, but also many Russian journalists. However, the Grozny feat happened two months after another significant event.

Most of the military note the special professionalism of "Gyurza" and the entire "rabid" company in the actions to liberate Bamut. It was the reconnaissance of the 166th brigade that bypassed the militants in the mountains and went out to them "in the back." Faced with the vanguard, the scouts' patrol entered the battle, "putting down" 12 bandits. The surviving militants rushed to Bamut, from where they began to report on the "intelligence brigade" in their rear by radio. Largely thanks to the reconnaissance of the 166th brigade and the actions of the 136th MRB, which took a heavy battle on the slope of the gorge, Bamut himself was able to repulse relatively easily. The company itself under the command of Major Efentiev, even after the disbandment on the eve of the second Chechen one, thanks to the personnel and personal qualities of each fighter , still remains one of the most combat-ready army units in the modern history of the Russian Armed Forces.

I would like to remind everyone about the legendary "Furious Company" reconnaissance company of the 166th separate motorized rifle brigade under the command of "Gyurza".

The fear of the Chechen fighters in front of it was so great that when the "Czechs" found out (usually through radio interception) that a "Frenzied Company" was moving into their area, they immediately abandoned their positions (no matter how strong they were) and fled ( even if they outnumbered Frenzied Company many times over).

Alexey Viktorovich Efentiev, the son of a hereditary military man, was born in 1963. From 1992 to 1994, Captain Alexei Efentiev was the head of the headquarters of a separate reconnaissance battalion in Germany.

Since 1994, Alexey Efentiev has been in Chechnya. The military unit, which he commanded, was one of the best and most combat-ready unit of the Russian troops. A. Efentiev's call sign "Gyurza" was well known. "Gyurza" was a legend of the first Chechen war. On his combat account, dozens of dangerous raids on the rear of the army of Dudaev's militants, the storming of Bamut and the lifting of the blockade from the special Coordination Center surrounded in the center of Grozny, when, thanks to the heroism of "Gyurza", many high ranks of the Army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were saved, as well as a large group of Russian correspondents ...

The "special forces", led by their commander, erected a monument to their comrades who died in Chechnya. They ordered a granite monument with their own money, and built a foundation for it on their own.

The reconnaissance company, commanded by "Gyurza", was nicknamed "rabid" by the Chechen militants. So that they would not be confused with ordinary infantry, the commandos tied black headbands taken from the killed "Czechs" on their heads, it was a kind of dedication: each newcomer had to remove the black bandage from the "Czech" he had killed and cut off his ears (according to Karan, that Allah pulls into paradise by the ears and cuts off the ears of the killed special forces thus depriving the Muslim militant of paradise. This was a huge psychological impact of the enemy). They invariably went first and entered the battle, even when the numerical advantage was far from on their side. In April 1996, under Belgatoy, captured by the militants, machine gunner Romka, without ceasing to fire, point-blank, full-length, without hiding, went to the firing point, like Alexander Matrosov. The hero died, and his body was pulled out from under the fire of the Chechens by his comrade Konstantin Mosalev, whom A. Nevzorov would later show in the film "Purgatory" under the pseudonym "Petersburg".
