Interview with the owner of the vending machine manufacturing company New Vending Technologies. Vending equipment Design and manufacture of vending machines

In a conversation with us, a successful entrepreneur Konstantin Starkin spoke about the advantages and prospects of the vending business in Russia, and also told about the nuances of the production of vending machines.

Key points of the interview:

  • Type of activity: Manufacture of vending machines
  • Location: Russia, Moscow
  • Business experience: over 10 years.
  • The number of machines produced: more than 500 units (data as of January 2015).
  • Why they began to engage in production: «…. vending trade in Russia is poorly developed. On the other hand, the production of vending machines is practically undeveloped. , there was no equipment on the market that would meet the necessary criteria "
  • Is it worth starting a business in a crisis: “In my opinion, times of crisis are great for those who want to start their own business. Applied to vending trade, this rule is even more relevant .... "
  • What determines business success: "The main thing in achieving success is the desire to act, and not look for excuses in inaction, not refer to fictitious difficulties."

Konstantin, how long have you been in this business? How did the history of your company begin?

I have been doing vending for a long time, already more than 10 years. It all started with the installation and maintenance of slot machines. In the beginning, we used imported equipment, which was rather laborious to maintain. Components were ordered from third-party suppliers and arrived in 4-5 months.

When the gambling business was banned, we started looking for a new niche. Undoubtedly, toys are a stable and highly profitable sphere, especially since the vending trade in Russia is underdeveloped. On the other hand, the production of vending machines is practically undeveloped. , there was no equipment on the market that would meet the necessary criteria.

Together with partners, it was decided to develop and organize the production of a new and unique vending machine for our market. That is why the name of our company is New Vending Technologies LLC (the official website of the company is https://www.newvend.ru/).

Why did you decide to switch from trade to the production of commercial equipment?

It cannot be said that the enterprise has completely switched from sales to the creation of devices, since we still have a number of retail outlets (Novosibirsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg).

Why did you decide to become a manufacturer? First, it's interesting to do something new, realizing the usefulness of your own efforts. Secondly, there was knowledge and understanding of what kind of product our market needs.

Honestly, the first glance at your equipment gives the impression that it is imported. Its Russian origin was a discovery for me.

Vending Machine Business - not an easy undertaking in the Russian realities, as well as the creation of any unique product. Now, looking back at the path traveled, you understand how risky it was. But the company coped with it, managing to establish a very clear, streamlined process for the production of equipment. Today we are proud that all products are completely assembled in Russia with the maximum use of local components.

In cooperation with the best domestic designers, a very durable, reliable and adapted to our realities apparatus Mangosteen was created. By the way, we are completely confident in the manufactured product, and since the beginning of 2015 we have increased its warranty service to 3 years.

Do you have a large product line?

Produced in 3 types:

We also produce capsules for toys (ed. Before selling, toys must be packed in capsules), on two production lines - 60 and 100 mm.

How many vending machines have you made? And what is the geography of equipment sales?

More than 500 units of products came off the assembly line. So far, we are cooperating only with Russia and Kazakhstan, but we are striving to develop a sales network for Mangustins in other countries as well. Our products are installed in more than 60 cities, from Moscow, where we began to develop our network, to Khabarovsk, from Sochi to St. Petersburg. The company's products are represented in almost all cities with a population of over one million, as well as in very small and remote settlements.

Do you already have your products in Crimea?

Unfortunately, not yet, but we will be glad to see representatives of the Crimea in our ranks.

Selling toys through a vending machine is understandable to me, but selling jewelry is not entirely. Can buying jewelry be done blindly? From personal experience, I can say that before buying a hairpin, a woman will measure 15 pieces. Or is the device specifically aimed at men: came - bought - presented?

The capsules in which the jewelry is packed are transparent. Customers can clearly see what they are buying, plus videos with the presented decorations are scrolling on the monitor. The price of jewelry in the vending machine is significantly lower than usual, since there are no expenses for sellers or for renting large premises. This, of course, is a tangible plus in the implementation of jewelry.

Do you order toys for sale from China? Have you ever thought about organizing the production of goods in the Russian Federation?

Vending - business for megalopolises (or regional centers) or is it possible in a small town? Does it make sense to put equipment, say, in a city with a population of 100 thousand people?

We have quite successful partners in small towns. Well, in a city with a population of 100,000 inhabitants, you can not only install 1 machine, but develop a network of even 10 retail outlets.

Generally, vending in Russia - quite a delicate occupation when it comes to small towns. On the one hand, in a small settlement (if this is not the north), the incomes of the population are lower, but at the same time the level of competition and rental rates is lower. Prices for toys are also more attractive for buyers than in the formats of trade that are familiar to us.

The main obstacle is the unaccustomed nature of automated trading, the fear that the machine "will eat the money, but will not give up the goods." Therefore, the owner of this kind of equipment in a small town should pay more attention to promotions, show how easy it is to shop here. It is necessary to attract customers, and new customers will be found, thanks to word of mouth.

Recently I spoke with a friend who argued that selling through vending machines is not an activity for Russia, since the domestic consumer is conservative. How right do you think he is?

I agree with your friend. Russians are a conservative people, but vending is actively gaining momentum, and in the next 3-5 years it will become an integral part of our life. Already in large cities, equipment with snacks, coffee machines, newspaper machines are on every corner. Other vending machines will have the same boom soon, but it is very important to gain a foothold in the niche as long as there are great places.

What are the prospects for the vending business in Russia in your opinion against the background of current market realities?

The prospects are amazing. We see how in Moscow tent trade is reduced to a minimum, and it is being replaced by automated sales, so it is logical to assume similar rearrangements in other cities. Vending is convenient, reliable and of high quality. In the very near future, we will see a 10-fold leap in the development of automated trading.

In general, is it worth starting a business in a crisis? Maybe it's better to wait until everything is "settled"?

In my opinion, times of crisis are great for those who want to start their own business. Applied to vending trade, this rule is even more relevant, since now people are thinking about saving, and the prices of goods in vending machines can be significantly lower than market prices (saving on salaries, rent). In addition, the widespread reduction in rental rates is a huge plus.

Even if the buyer of the vending machine decides that such trade is not for him or, say, will change his place of residence, the commercial equipment can always be sold profitably, recouping the investment spent on launching the project.

How difficult is it to be an entrepreneur in Russia?

Our company employs patriots who want to live and develop in their homeland. I believe that now is a great time for the development of small and medium-sized businesses, since there are a huge number of government programs aimed at promoting entrepreneurship. There is an opportunity to receive subsidies, and negotiations are underway to reduce the tax burden.

And the last question: in your opinion, what should be done to achieve success in business?

The main thing in achieving success is the desire to act, and not look for excuses in inaction, not refer to fictitious difficulties. Look for an occupation that interests you. "Only the brave conquer the seas!"

Vending is the sale of various goods or the provision of services through special machines. All over the world, vending machines are quite in demand, but in Russia this profitable business is only gaining momentum. Buying and using vending machines is an excellent additional or main source of income:

  1. There is no need to pay a salary to the seller or look for a replacement for him during the sick leave.
  2. There is no need to rent the entire space, as the machine can be placed anywhere. The spacious hall of an entertainment or business center, as well as the territory of a hospital or train station, are suitable.
  3. The device works in an uninterrupted mode, and repairs do not require large expenses or the help of a narrow-profile specialist.
  4. The profit significantly exceeds the cost of service.

We offer the most popular options for vending machines, taking into account the basic needs of the population. Among the assortment presented, it remains to choose the most demanded device:

  • Plain drinking or carbonated water;
  • Hot meals;
  • Snacks and ice cream;
  • Post-terminals and machines for charging telephones;
  • Luggage storage;
  • Self-service car washes;
  • Coffee machines;
  • Sale of souvenirs and piece goods.

Retail sale of consumer goods through vending machines brings good profits, and the range is no longer limited to cool drinks or aromatic coffee. Modern devices make it possible to make a purchase as quickly and conveniently as possible, and the simplicity of organizing a business plays into the hands of even novice entrepreneurs. Opening your own business using vending machines is much easier due to the minimum investment at the start-up stage.
